I had a vision earlier in the week that I relayed to my partner in magic @natasha_barrett_ which she so kindly drew for me. The image was of the Slavic Goddess and pretectoress of Ukraine Berehynia being held up and supported by many other Goddesses. A response in my pysche perhaps of knowing what befalls the feminine in warfare, how it is the enranging fact that when wars break out women are as afraid of r@pe as they are of the mortal threat to their life. Freedoms and independence are ripped away in a disgusting display of toxic Masculine of dominance, and destruction of our Great Mother herself with nuclear waste being recklessly treated. The Goddess within me weeps and rages with burning heart and also reaches out for attempt to provid help, love, support, solidarity and hope to those who need it - a feeling it seems many resonate with at present for we are all connected as nature reminds us constantly๐ณ Weak men who seek to dominate their power over the rest of us have always existed within systems that place a hierarchical linear masculine structure. We do well to attempt to shift into a a culture of equality - the cyclical respect of cultures in balance with the feminine. And we can connect to this way of thinking through archetypal representations such as Berehynia (be-hey-nia). Representations of her are very ancient in the forms of glyphs and crafts, her arms always outstretched, and she was very present in Slavic mythology as the protector of water and bringer of strength justice and fertility. She is as fierce a destroyer and bringer of destiny as she is a loving creator - a common theme amongst the Divine Feminine. The simmering down after the recent Full Moon in Leo is bringing me a real sense of release. In the build up to the fullness I was feeling angry a lot, raging at the world - as an Aries Sun with a Libra Moon I've always embraced what anger wants to communicate about deeper pains, while the Libra in me seeks to rediscover the balance amongst the truth of it all. At midnight of the Full Moon I joined the 24,000 other women tuning into the World Wide Womb Blessing channeled by @wombblessing.mirandagray and as ever felt the powerful connection of thousands of folk tuning into Goddess Energy together. And it was in that connection I felt the pain I've felt so many times before; the hot angry tears of our mother earth being ripped apart and destroyed by greed and profit; the full bodied scream of continued oppression of women, minorities, LGBT+ siblings, the lower classes stuck in the grind, the global south forced to suffer the very worst consequences of the climate crisis; the fury, rage and down right dispair of indigenous and magical knowledge of earth remaining hidden or distrusted, out of reach for so many people. And as it all passed through me in a scream under the Full Moon in the sign of the roaring lion the pain felt a little less. Not gone but seen, felt, held - released. And then the images of the life I know is waiting for me slipped through, shining with a glint of hope, whispers of encroachment to do life a little differently, the allure of connecting deeply with indigenous roots. I'm not ready to give up hope on this world, it's too easy to see all its wonderous magical beauty and potential. I am also not blind to the current reality of humanity's consequences. Being seen publically as a Witch becomes more comfortable, powerful and healing with each day. It's astonishing to me that 4 years ago I would not have let myself be photographed mid rituals (let alone put them on a public platform), I wouldn't have delighted in nature unless I knew nobody was around, I didn't let myself wear the clothes that are now my norm, instead it was my priority to blend in. I was anxious all the time, terrified of being "found out". It was a generational wound of the Witches that haunted me, clamping down and creating self limiting behaviours. I was brought up by Witches, women who knew the old ways, but in their living memories was that of people killed for practicing our Craft. They drummed the message in, to be seen was to be in mortal danger. All our practices must be under cover of the upmost secrecy Only with my Great Grandmerรฉ's passing something in me shifted - I started to heal the fear, the gaping wound we were keeping open, I connected with many others who shared my path and with a very powerful Full Moon during a Summer Solstice in 2018 I lit a candle under stars and I claimed my power. Slowly I shed the aspects of life that did not sit right with me any more, I let myself be seen in authenticity more and more and let myself be heard - in being authentic words no longer got caught in my mouth, the pressure in my chest was gone and the anxiety ebbed away. And with it all came a wave of folks that not only accepted my eccentric ways but celebrated them, sought out tarot readings, astrology, healing herbs and spells - something I never used to think was possible. So this is really a thank you note, on my Grandmerรฉ's birthday - I thank her for teaching me so much in life and death, for her wisdom and for the chance to heal a part of the wound shared by so many of our ancestors. You may have heard on the Witchy grapevine that tonight is indeed the longest Lunar Eclipse in a Century โจ๐โจ The Lunar Eclipses (or Blood Moons so called for the red effect of the eclipse) are often attributed with chaos due to its ability to get us to put our lives on hold and rest into a reset which allows for new powers to manifest - when we try to barrel on with the status quo rather than stopping and listening to how we can release and transform then things can get a little wacky. It's important to note that Chaos comes from Khaos, the first primordial Goddess of the ancient Greco-Roman world. She emerged from the chasm of creation and preceded Mother Gaia - she is the representation of all that is possible in that moment of the simultaneous no-thing and every-thing. This Eclipse is occurring in Taurus which loves to ground us in a truth, and create new stabilising structures ๐ Over the next 2 months we're going through a lot of restructuring astrology with a few planets transiting Capricorn (particularly Venus' extra long retrograde in Capi) which spells a potential for our world. At this time of year we speak a lot about the Crone archetype of the Goddess, and the ways in which she brings us wisdom by grounding into the earth. Archetypes form from the characters commonly found in our lives, mythologies and understanding of the types of people that make up this world. And an archetype transcends to become a symbolic force in our minds. Crone Goddesses are found amongst polytheistic cultures all over the globe and often we find the Goddess taking a triple or quadruple form of Maiden, Mother, Wild One and Crone. She moves through these phases echoing the seasons, the moon's phases and the menstural cycle ๐๐๐ The Crone represents the time of life when we pass the threshold of learning with each cycle to an initiation of wisdom. She is so powerful, wise and important to a cyclical society that she was swifty demonised as the Hag by Patriarchy, discarded as no longer desirable or useful and presented as evil. But this is of course a lie, and we can embrace her during the darkness of winter, at the new moon, and if we menstrate during the bleeding days. She is associated with the winter winds of the North, the element of Earth and her colours are blood red and the black of night. Crone energy helps us to tap into our roots, the knowledge of the ground and she reminds us of our freedom. For the Elder Wise Woman is not bound to society's expectations and demands of what a person "should" be, the Crone's insights help us to unravel from the conditioning of how we are meant to behave and to instead follow an instinct, a knowing. For centuries in the not so distant history of these lands to be seen as a Witch was a brutal death sentence, and the gifting of an Acorn became a secret wink between Witches to acknowledge one another without inciting too much danger. The ripples of the Witch Wound remain to this day, showing up in collective ideals of misogyny, a disregard for the Feminine Energies in us all, violence towards those who do not fit in to rigid societal ideals, the destruction of our beautiful lands, and the loss of knowledge around our own history and skills. On a personal levels the Witch Wound appears often as fear around being seen as your authentic self, hiding spiritual beliefs and gifts for fear of judgement and persecution, blocks around the throat and womb spaces and generally mistrusting one's own intuition and cyclical rhythms. As we sink into the energies of Samhain we can take more space and time to tend to these wounds of ours, for healing the Witch Wound in all of us is a societal responsibility and attending to it changes everything.
