Each year, the Oxford Dictionaries team reviews candidates for word of the year and then debates their merits, eventually selecting one that captures the year's ethos, mood, or preoccupations. But in 2020, the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) could not name its traditional word of the year for the first time. The OED described 2020 as “a year which cannot be neatly accommodated in one single word.” With the language adapting “rapidly and repeatedly,” it said that there were too many words to sum up the events of 2020. Cancel culture, doomscrolling, zoombombing, moonshot, unmute, lockdown, mail-in, following the science, pandemic, shelter-in-place, social distancing, bushfire, key workers, superspreader, Covid-19, unprecedented and many other terms saw increased use in 2020 and some of them became serious contenders for the OED crown. . . . . . . . . . . #vocabulary #vocabularywords #oxforddictionary #oxforduniversitypress #oxfordwordoftheyear #wordoftheyear #wordoftheyear2019  #wordoftheyear2020  #wordoftheyear2021 #vocab #tomholland #rizz #knowledge #dictionary #englishlearning #oxford #linguistics #lexicography #cancelculture #unprecedented #goblinmode #youthquake #posttruth #agencylife #joinourteam #onlineagency #marketingagency #webagency #marketingcompany #creativeagency

Walking houses is my favorite cardio 🏃🏻‍♀️which is saying a lot because I LOVE my Peloton. 😂 I discovered FOCUS on my phone yesterday. Lol maybe I’m late to the game. But it’s pretty cool! You can set times for work, personal, sleep, etc and then which people and which apps you’ll be notified of during that time. 🤯 Does anyone else use that? I mean, how cool! Helps keep you focused on what you’re doing. To me that sounds like living with more intention and more presence. So I’m going to try it! See how I like it, and go from there. For me it would be successful if it keeps me in the moment for the things I’m doing, and allows the other notifications to chill in the background until it’s time to shift my FOCUS. We shall see 💫 I’d you use this feature, tell me how you like it and any suggestions! #eversancooperdesign #interiordesign #renovationdesign #eversancooperdesign #interiordesign #renovationdesign #designinspiration #designideas #hgtv #designstudio #designinspo #designhome #renovationproject #renovationinspiration #renovationprojects #renovationinspo #businessowner #entrepreneur #buildingalegacy #mindset #mindsetmatters #youareenough #personaldevelopment #personalgrowth #personalgrowthjourney #embrace ⭕️ #wordoftheyear2021

“I’m not going to torture myself.” When the new year hit and I set my goals for the year I also set tactical practices to reach those goals, and set a schedule for myself. So one part of my schedule is in the mornings I sit in an infrared sauna blanket and do my social posts while eating breakfast. The first few times I did this I drank my coffee too, and it was kind of miserable. The sauna blanket is already hot! I didn’t need coffee added into the mix. So this morning my alarm goes off to get off the couch and get ready to workout. But of course I’m a bit behind and still wanted to drink my coffee. So I considered staying in the blanket and drinking coffee and then I thought “I’m not going to torture myself.” Anyone else guilty of torturing themselves in the name of productivity? Health? Business goals? To the point where the activity isn’t fun anymore. You dread it. And then what? How is that ok? So today, don’t torture yourself just to get things done, or to prove yourself, or to work towards your goals. We are here to ENJOY and EMBRACE our lives. And we are enough just as we are. It’s been a lesson for me that the desire to grow and develop does NOT equal NOT being enough right now. Don’t torture yourself. Buscada mais de 243 mil vezes, a palavra "Perseverança" foi a "word of the year" de 2021 do Cambridge Dictionary que além de representar muito sobre nós nos dois últimos anos, também nomeou o robô da NASA, "Perseverance" em sua exploração na superfície de Marte. Dados os fatos, a Cambridge University Press - Brazil produziu um planner para seus parceiros de modo que esse conceito também concebesse mais uma possibilidade para se olhar a frente e manter-se firme em seus planos e sonhos. Last year was the first year of my life where I've truly connected to and stayed true to THE WORD (of the year). I used it as a compass, over and over. My word was EASE. Now not for a minute would I say any of us had an 'easy' year last year, far from. Instead, I used 'ease' to help me make decisions. Instead of mulling over decisions I chose the answer that came fastest and created the path of least resistance. And that was the pertinent point. For example, if an opportunity came my way (and felt right), I took it, rather than weighing up alternatives/looking elsewhere/trying to get a better deal/losing hours and days in the process. Here's a couple of good examples, albeit pretty significant decisions. When we bought our house (via a Zoom auction) we chose EASE to guide us. I in particular wasn't looking to lose sleep over the auction; I wasn't interested in negotiating for days after it was passed in at our final bid and the vendor offered a higher price. If it wasn't an ease-ful process it wasn't going to be ours. When Andrew and I had to go shopping to buy a dryer, oven, dishwasher, TV and mini microwave for our new home we agreed that if we found a salesperson we liked and sensed we could trust we'd take his advice and get out of there as fast as we could. And I kid you not, we got all of that within 45 mins (except the oven). Making decisions easefully took practice too. I needed to keep reminding myself that EASE was my chosen compass. Life is and can be so very tricky. But let's agree, we all have the capacity to make different choices that will ultimately create more ease in our lives, and far out I'm grateful I chose that word! I've since decided on my word for 2022 and I'll share that shortly. Until then, I'd love to know - have you chosen a word and successfully stayed true to it across a year? Because I'm a convert, I'm not sure what took me so long! (A much expanded version of this caption, including how to choose your word of the year is in a blog post I wrote for my website. Link in profile).

Word of the year? PEACE. I set the vibe of the household and I’m choosing peace. I get to choose how I react to situations. I get to choose daily practices that ground me as ME, so I can be a better me as MUM. I get to choose what our week looks like, for it to be filled with just enough fun, new things, and routine, without it turning to chaos and overwhelm. I get to choose. This morning I woke up a bit grumps and down in the dumps. I had little patience and the kids were peeing my off. Hubs came in and suggested we go to Queenstown, like right then. I could have chose to pack a sad and stay home, or send one of the kids on a drive with him. Instead I chose to lay down my peace, chuck the nappy bag and drink bottles in the car and head off for the day. And you know what? It was lovely. We talked and ate, and played and shopped and came home happy. I reconnected with my husband after snapping at him in the morning and with the kids after being short with them too. I could have let a bad morning ruin a whole day, but I was reminded of my focus word PEACE, and chose that. It felt goooood. Do you have a word for the year? Mind sharing? #peace #wordoftheyear #wordoftheyear2021 #wordfortheyear #queenstownnz

My word for 2021 was “Discipline”. ❤️ I have learned so much about that word and am so grateful for the opportunity I had to focus on it. 🥰 As 2022 was approaching, I started to consider what my focus should be. 🤔 Oftentimes, it shows up as a word that repeats itself in front of me. I see it more often, hear it more often, it “speaks to me” almost. 😍 And with that - the focus that spoke to me was…. “Decision.” 🤗 More about this to come but I want to hear from you. What was your focus for 2021 and what will it be for 2022? 😍 . . . . #optaviaindependenthealthcoach #optaviamindset #mindsetiseverything #wordoftheyear2021 #motivationalspeaker #motivationallearning #personaldevelopment #personalachievements #personaldevelopmentplan #brainpower #positivethinking

+++ Germany’s Word of the Year 2021 +++ At the end of each year the German Language Association selects the word of the year. For 2021 it picked the word "Wellenbrecher," a plausible choice in times of an ongoing pandemic. ”Wellenbrecher" (literally wave breaker) is a term that comes from coastal protection — it means breakwater. But these days, it stands for all the measures that have been and are being taken to break the fourth COVID-19 wave. 🌊 #wordoftheyear2021 Foto: Colourbox.com

Uncomfortable. That’s the “word of the year.” I’m going with. Not your typical uplifting, “positive feeling” word Id choose. But it actually IS. Stay with me for a sec. 😉 ✨Uncomfortable enough to push myself In ways I would’ve never years ago ✨Uncomfortable conversations I need to have to create more vulnerably, trust, deep friendships & intimacy in my romantic relationship. ✨Uncomfortable, hard look into the habits that are holding me back from abundance, happiness & purpose ✨Uncomfortable so I can unlock that potiental I know I have within me. We ALL have that potential within us. But we are just stuck in that comfort zone You see, you need to be UNCOMFORTABLE, even a little 👌🏻if you are to make some BIG shifts in your life. What grows in comfort zones? Complacency, boredom, eventual resentment, and anger towards yourself and than you project it to others. Shit downs south. Start to Feel the feelings Feel the fear Do it anyways Makes it so damn worth it in the end ✨You start to believe in yourself ✨You start to get confidence ✨You start to smile more You will appreciate all it took to get over that “something” you thought was “impossible.” There is a huge sense of fulfillment with that. Really makes it so damn worth it So cheers to day 1 of 3 Day of my Gentle Detox. Some thing that I don’t want to do right now but I know I need to. For digestion. To get uncomfortable. To feel how a new client starts her or his journey. Getting comfortable now makes it really damn worth it and fulfilling in the end. It makes you happier. What is your word? Drop it below 👇🏻

Happy new year!🎉🌟 Here's a #limerick in 2 verses to welcome it 🙃 I rediscovered my love of rhyme in 2020, along with a fascination for #forgottenwords In 2020 such a word, aerumnous (=full of trouble) seemed perfect to describe the year, though Collins dictionary chose #doomscrolling as #wordodtheyear2020 (useful word in 2020 & 2021). It's slightly tempting to bring back aerumnous (excellent word), but for 2021 Collins dictionary chose NFT (non-fungible token), Oxford dictionary vax, Merriam-Webster vaccine and Cambridge dictionary perseverance. And I guess perseverance sums up 2021 well enough for me, I always did like that word - as well as Cambridge 😉 #wordlovers #wordoftheyear2021 #wordoftheyearlimerick

I *finally* picked my #wordoftheyear! I went through about two dozen words and even thought I had decided on one a few days ago, but then this word came to mind while watching Single All the Way for the gazillionth time. In the movie, the mom makes a sign for her plant-obsessed son that says "Bloom where you are planted." It's meant to be corny, but it really resonated with me. The last two years have been HARD. There's the obvious p*ndemic that's thrown a wrench in literally everything, but I also completely pivoted my business, launched a membership, worked full-time with a toddler at home, navigated fertility treatments, finally got pregnant, and gave birth to our son. I also dug deep into my values, my privileges, and what sort of example I want to be for others. It's taken a lot of uncomfortable (but necessary and overdue) work, but the foundation has been built and I finally feel "planted." Now it's time to bloom and really dig into the person I want to be. While "bloom" is my official word, I've also picked "alignment" and "movement" to help guide me this year. Alignment is to make sure I stay on track, and movement is to make my health a priority. What's your word of the year? I'd love to hear it!

Grow Do you pick a word to focus on for the year? I have been doing this for the last 6 years. I found that having one word to focus on helps me remember my intention throughout the year. A few weeks ago I picked my word for 2022…Grow. I wanted to focus on growing intellectually, spiritually, physically and socially here at @sparkgoodness But I very quickly started to feel uneasy about my word choice. I couldn’t quite figure out what it was that was causing some anxiety until one day, I sat down and truly listened to my mind and heart when pondering what “Grow “ would mean. With some astonishment I realized I was afraid. “Grow” could take me into unknown territory. For someone who likes to have a plan, and be in control of my surroundings, The word grow was a little scary. I sat with this new knowledge for a couple days. Trying to decide what to do… keep it or change it. On December 26th, I went to church and the words Fear Not was repeated 5 times in the talk given. Those words pierced my heart and I felt like Heaven was whispering courage into my soul. This year I will have a phrase: Grow and Fear Not! ✨ what is your word for 2022

1/2/2022, 3:19:10 AM

Hello 2022!⁣ ⁣ A few years ago, I ditched creating a New Year's resolution, and I started choosing a Word of the Year instead. In the past, I've had words such as contentment and beyond. For 2022, I've chosen 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 as my theme to help push me past my comfort zone. Oftentimes, I stand in my own way. I have a really bad tendency to care way too much about what others think, which causes me to procrastinate and become fearful of the outcome.⁣ ⁣ 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦'𝘴 𝘯𝘰 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘻𝘰𝘯𝘦. ⁣ ⁣ In order to create the life of my dreams, I'll have to step outside of that area where I feel the safest. That means facing my fears head-on while realizing that things may not go as planned and that that's okay. If I don't at least try, how would I even know? I won't.⁣ ⁣ So 2022 will be fearless and a year of growth for me. I'm going to meet my challenges head first, and embrace all that's to come. That may be succeeding in new ways and also accepting that some things just may not work out. ⁣ ⁣ I know that the fear won't go away overnight, but I'm no longer going to let it overwhelm or dictate me. I won't let fear stop me from growing to unimaginable heights. I won't let fear prevent me from trying new things and dropping old habits. I won't let fear paralyze me. Instead, I'll move beyond fear and let my faith guide me. ⁣ ⁣ Are you setting a word for the year? I'd love to hear what you've chosen.

✨J O Y ✨ It’s my word for 2022 & in my research I found this: “If you wish to be happy, argue with yourself on the side of happiness; take the side you wish to carry, and be careful not to talk on both sides, or to argue stronger for sorrow than for joy. You are the attorney for the case, and will win or lose according to your plea" -Mary Baker Eddy 🤍 Pure Joy - our niece Brooklyn & nephew Tate. 🤍 This year, I wish to carry Joy. I invite you to join me & we can support one another when life is less than, ahem, joyous. Do you have a word for the year? If not, borrow mine. 😉 #joy #wordoftheyear2021 #wordoftheyear #joyous #happynewyear2021 #happynewyear #leftrightcenter #nye #newyearseve #auntylovesyou

December 31, 2021 “All-consuming fire. You're our heart's desire. Living flame of love. Come baptize us. Come baptize us.” ~Jesus Culture 🔥 I started the year 2021 with the word “Burn” and the image of a small ember, glowing with Jesus inside, but not yet in full flame. Oh how that image has changed! There is too much for me to share in one small post, but suffice it to say He has shown Himself to be an all-consuming Fire this year as I’ve pursued deep relationship with Him! In that process, I’ve experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit after some friends laid hands and prayed over me and I received the gift of praying in tongues. 🔥He also delivered me from some demonic oppression (bye bye fear and anxiety among other things 🙌🏽) and I began digging into prayer and the Bible with a hunger I never had before. There is sooo much further for me to grow in this with Him, and now I realize how much I DON’T know but I’m awake in a new way! The end of this year was hectic, so I didn’t have a chance to paint the visual I now have of gold being refined in the fire. Instead I’ll share this very old painting of mine that surfaced this year out of storage (coincidence? I think not). I painted this before I really had a grasp of the Holy Spirit fire…and I’m still praying for Jesus to continue to burn and refine my heart until it is COMPLETELY pure in Him!! 2021 was a genuinely life changing year for me! This God I serve is so real and so GOOD!! Be blessed my friends and Happy New Year! “…He (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” -Matthew 3:11 🔥🙌🏽❤️ #fire #holyspiritfire #burn #burnforchrist #artistmom #wordoftheyear2021 #tickledpinckneydesigns

______ 🇬🇧 Happy new year to all and thank you for following and supporting my adventures for the past year, that means a lot !! I wish you love, happiness, health... and exciting challenges ! 🙂 I don't know if I've ever made any good resolution, and if I have, I don't remember keeping them 😅 Yet, last year, Clotilde Dusoulier from the podcast "Change ma vie" (which I invite you to discover, in French) proposed instead of good resolutions, to choose a word that would be an intention for the year. I chose... "Dare"! And I think I stuck to it 🙂 I started networking and sharing my work as an illustrator, got my diploma, and late last year, I developed my first collection of illustrated textiles! All this has come with its share of ups and downs, but better to try than to stagnate! I still have a lot to learn but it's already been a great step and I am grateful for your support :) I still have to think about choosing my word for this year 😉 What about you ? ______ #newyear2022 #WordoftheYear2021 #changeyourlife #goals #challenges #motdelannée #nnewchallenges #oser #bats #batpostcards #batpostcard #illustration #natureillustration #batillustration

Abundance. What does it mean to live abundantly? Is it a lot of money? Possessions? Vacations? Abundance was laid on my heart as my word for this year and I’m praying I’ll be able to learn to live an unapologetically abundant life. It’s not money, possessions or vacations for me but time, love, & peace. Here’s to an abundant 2022! Luke 6:38

My 2021 word of the year is STRIVE. I have 11 goals to strive for this year, and at the end of each month, I will hold myself accountable by commenting on how I implemented that month's goal. February's STRIVE goal was to take care of myself. March's STRIVE goal was to put my needs along with others' needs. April's STRIVE goal was to be a better mom. May's STRIVE goal was to connect. June's STRIVE goal was to listen to my wants, needs, and boundaries. July's STRIVE goal was to relax. August's STRIVE goal was to learn. September's STRIVE goal was to exist in the moment. October's STRIVE goal was to do what is needed, not what *should be* done. November's STRIVE goal was to let go. December's STRIVE goal was to move on. 🗒 #WordOfTheYear #WordOfTheYear2021 #SelfCare #SelfLove #SelfCareDaily #SelfCareLove #SelfCareIsntSelfish #SelfCareIsHealthCare #SelfLoveMatters #RasconRevisions

Here’s to a bright past, present, and future, because we know this: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new mevery morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3: 22-24 My word for 2022: Bright God gave it to me in a flash last night. I asked Him, and before I could envision my question in prayer, He answered immediately: BRIGHT. And because the future is as bright as His faithfulness, this year will be bathed in my word of the year. There may be darkness, but I am not of the darkness; I’m a child of the light; Therefore, I will live in the light. Shine bright, friends. Bask in the glow of His glory. Lord, let our faces shine with Your glory as we learn how to ever set our gaze upon your face. #chronicillness #covidnewyear #newyearseve #wordoftheyear2021 #wordoftheyear #chronichope #peoplehopetribe #newmercies

As #wordoftheyear2021 has expired, what will come next?

1/1/2022, 1:39:02 AM

Interest in the definition of this word was intense in the past year: lookups for vaccine increased 601% year-over-year from 2020. But interest in the word has been high since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with much discussion of the funding, development, testing, and ultimate distribution of the vaccines occurring in 2020. The prominence of the word vaccine in our lives in this era becomes even more starkly clear when we compare 2021 to 2019, a period in which lookups for the word increased 1048%. Surrender. It was my word for 2021 and what a year of “surrender” it has been. When you break down the word it means to give up or deliver over…and boy did it feel like I handed over a lot this year; sometimes willingly, sometimes not so willingly. But as I sit here, I still feel a familiar weight of anxiety that is still present and God is inviting me to surrender that last bit in the final hours of this year. I am still grasping onto the little bit of control I (think) I have left and He has promised me peace in exchange for my emptiness, but why can’t I let it go? And all I keep hearing is, “You need to make a conscious choice to let it go….over and over again.” You see, the burden I have taken on most recently is the thought that I need to make everyone happy. After losing Charlie I grieved so deeply and was often so sad and somewhere along the way I started to believe the lie that my grief hurt those around me (my immediate family especially) and I needed to make reparations for that. I felt responsible to make it right. But upon presenting this to Jesus I heard Him gently reassure me that only He has the power to bring happiness into the hearts of those around me. It was a battle I could not win. It was a battle I wasn’t meant to fight. So I am making the conscious decision to surrender it…(probably more than once) as I enter into this new year. For it is in the emptiness that we find Christ’s abundance. #surrender #catholicmotherhood #newyears #wordoftheyear2021

It’s time to throw the New Years Resolutions out the window once and for all💥 ⠀ It might just be the thing that will ACTUALLY change your life 😉 ⠀ For the past couple years I have instead chosen words that carry the energy I want to be able to cultivate more of in my life as a way of setting the tone and internal intention for the coming year and I invite you to do the same for you ⠀ My words for 2021 was Authenticity, Expression and Expansion ⠀ And without really noticing it until now when this week looking back at everything this past year I just realized that holy sh*t, life brought me challenge after challenge in order for me to get the opportunity to embody the energy of these words even deeper and continue to become more of the woman I desire to be simultaneously with fully accepting who I am in each and every moment ⠀ 2021 to walk with excitement followed by disappointment over and over again in order to really expand into a more authentic version of myself and receive the lesson that I am fully capable of holding the duality of those extremely polarizing emotions, something that is completely priceless for someone who used to run at first sign of possible disappointment 🥵 ⠀ I have been met with some really difficult but necessary opportunities to express myself and become a better communicator both in the relationship between me and myself and in relationship with others ⠀ I am so proud of myself for leaning in over and over again and continue to let my heart crack open and have her expand just a little bit more every time despite the fears my brain was trying to use to have me opt out of what I desire ⠀ The amount of love I’ve been able to feel, receive and give throughout this year has been the greatest gift of my life and I know it is the result of intentionally choosing it repeatedly over and over ⠀ What’s the word or words you choose as your leading word for 2022? ⠀ I’ll start by sharing mine below 👇 #wordoftheyear #wordoftheyear2021 #wordoftheyear2022

Last December I sat on my couch, looking at my colorful Christmas tree in the predawn darkness. I had just put down my phone after a frustrating Catholic Match scroll. I picked up my phone again and canceled my membership. “I am too old to pay for daily disappointment,” I thought. I looked around at my new home and smiled. “Home” was my word for 2020 and it worked out pretty well. I thought earlier in the year that perhaps my word for 2021 should be “husband.” A little embarrassing perhaps, but why not? But as I sat on the couch that December morning I decided that I had given enough energy to that longing. I turned to the Lord and started to chat with Him out loud. I told him I was so happy to be exactly where I was. That I do still hope to marry, but that I surrender that longing to Him. My new word floated to the surface: Receive I told him that I would gratefully receive whatever He had in mind for me in 2021. I received many things. A free TV, a business coach, a killer birthday present for my backyard. But I also received deep in my heart this season of single life. As a younger woman, I would walk past this little cottage in my neighborhood and imagine living there as a single quirky, eccentric writer. It felt possible and real. However, whenever I would daydream about a husband and family, it felt like the same way it feels when you dream of being a princess with a unicorn. It felt like pure imagination. I’ve learned that this sense that I will always be alone could possibly be my mind trying to protect me from disappointment, so it’s not prophetic or anything, but it’s still very interesting to me because here I am, living in a little cottage, writing on my computer. I have not forsaken the hope of marriage, but my life is lovely just the way it is. I *receive* this beautiful life as I say goodbye to 2021. Do you pick a word every year? What was your word for 2021? . . . . #wordoftheyear #wordoftheyear2021 #receive #peacefullife #catholicwomen #catholiclife #catholicprayer #prayerlife

So this year was my “Year of Convergence”. And just like every other year for the last 8 years, this word seems to filter the experiences and lessons that come my way, but never in the way I expect. I thought this word would be about my career or the way my life looked; my direction. It wasn’t. It was about me. On the inside. I have learned some valuable lessons like the importance of knowing when to fight and when not to fight, I’ve made some big and small mistakes, and I’ve won some hard-fought victories and lost other battles. The irony of “convergence” for me is that, while so many of the visible parts of my life that I’ve been working hard toward seem to be melding together to kind of make sense… while I am feeling incredibly loved, appreciated, honored, invigorated, and respected, I have simultaneously been feeling taken advantage of, disrespected, depressed, exhausted, withdrawn … just … heavy. That was my convergence: the high and the low. Together. I know many of you are feeling this too. There’s like this general heaviness in the world. So many people I know are feeling it. And I feel it keeping us away from each other because we have nothing to give to ourselves, let alone anyone else. But I promise you… your next breath is there. Jesus and therapy are there. And they’re so so good. Keep letting yourself love others. Keep letting people love you. I’m trying to do that too. It’s hard sometimes. I know. I’m praying for a new year that is filled with the kinds of blessings that bring us closer to understanding and closer to each other. Happy New Year, my friends. #yearofconvergence #wordoftheyear2021 #crappycellphonepic #kissthisyeargoodbye #makingchange

Reflections on 2021 • When I was studying for my mindfulness certification, the concept of allowing and letting be was the most impactful for me. • As a trauma survivor, controlling my environment made me feel safer. Control and overproduction were deeply ingrained coping mechanisms; but, they led to stress and blocked healing. • I have also spent the last several years with severe invisible chronic illness. I had very little to no control over my physical health. Good days were impossible to predict and rarely at opportune times. I was bedridden for a majority of 2021 and I was forced to face a lot of my issues with control during that time. • Mindfulness allowed me to be present with what is and let go of fear of suffering. The deeper I dove into trauma work and mindfulness, the more I began to accept that we don’t have a lot of control. It was in embracing this that I began to feel empowered. • I rarely find myself flustered these days. I doubt I’ll ever describe myself as a “go with the flow” type of person. I prefer to be a planner, but I now feel calm when things don’t go as planned. • I look forward to seeing how my Dragon Qigong progresses. Dragon, the water element, was the most difficult form for me of the 5 Elements and others saw this weakness. Perhaps I’ll move on from the stiffness and really let it flow.

#decemberreflections2021 My Word for 2022. I know what it is but I’m not sharing it just yet! First I’m taking time to reflect on my word for 2021 - AUTHOR. I find it’s so easy to shift into the new word and year and not reflect on what we’ve achieved and learnt in the past one! Here's what I wrote on Instagram about what AUTHOR as word of the year meant sitting on the threshold of 2021: ✍️ stepping into the identity of author ✍️ embracing life as an author and learning new skills - publication, launching, author platform. ✍️ keeping writing front and centre in every way ✍️ completing, beginning and progressing writing projects ✍️ being visible as an author and talking about my books and writing ✍️ helping others embrace writing and being an author ✍️ helping women be the creator of their stories and the active author of their lives through enhanced self-leadership. In a new blog post on Quiet Writing, I share how that shaped up over the year and some tips for applying this learning in your life! So if stepping more into writing and being an author is high on your priorities, head over to quietwriting.com/blog to read and be inspired 📖📚✍️📘 Did you have a word for 2021? How did it play out? I’ll be sharing my 2022 word in the new year - stay tuned! And warmest wishes for the last day of 2021 and the new year 🥂💃❤️🎉may it be a year of creativity, intuition, writing and goals and dreams fulfilled.

This is the time where I pick my word of the year. In 2021, my word was OVERCOME. It didn’t make much sense to me but I went with it. Reflecting on the year, it was a year of change and conquering a line of thinking that no longer was serving me. There was sadness of close relationships ending and an opening of doors to fuller, richer relationships. There was an injury to my right foot which left me needing surgery twice. Relying on family and friends to help since I couldn’t drive, asking for help as an enneagram 2 is very hard. Breaking my foot opened a new journey in fitness. Leaving diet culture and hard core cardio behind to giving my body the fuel it needs thru understanding macros, walking and weight training. Pulling back on trying to fit in. Understanding that it is okay if I don’t. Go find where I do. Years of moving around as a kid taught me to blend in and go with it. I decided to trash that line of thinking. Lastly, giving myself the power to choose where I spend my time. Not someone else’s judgement of where I should. 2021 was a transition year that is for sure. 2022’s word is SERVE. I am excited to see how this word unfolds. Do you pick a word of the year? #wordoftheyear2021 #wordoftheyear2022 #overcome #serve #happynewyear2022

2021 - word of the year for me was BALANCE. Balancing home-life with mum-life, balancing mum-life with work-life, balancing work-life in retail & being my own boss, balancing relationships, balancing the pull between ups and downs in energy and re-balancing my health. I started the year on a 5 month journey of internal gut healing with the most mentally challenging part of my healing to date. But, apart from one small episode I can now say I have a much healthier relationship with food mentally and my eczema has finally disappeared after many many many years 🙏🏻🙌🏼 Not only has the physical healing been life-changing, so have my feelings around food and so has the deep-down healing spiritual work I’ve opened up to 🙏🏻✨ I could not have healed in the way I have without this inner soul work & whilst it has been painful at times it has been enlightening 💫 I am entering 2022 with a much needed understanding of who I really am, why I’m here and what I want to do. 2022 you better be ready for me 👌🏻😉 #theunthetheredsoul #balance #wordoftheyear #wordoftheyear2021 #2022goals

Here are a few examples of the poster I create for “my word of the year” I hang it up near my art desk to remind myself all year long. (idea: found on Pinterest)

Yesterday I talked about my word of the year, "growth" and what it ended up NOT meaning. Today I thought I'd reflect on the ways that I have grown in so many more meaningful ways.⁣ ⁣ I've "grown" my art: I've created bigger work this year. I like making larger paintings but some fear was holding me back, so I dove in and and very happy I did. I do think next year I'll be doing some more smaller pieces, because I am finding my time rather tight.⁣ ⁣ I've grown creatively: the art I'm am creating is finally beginning to line up with my vision and that is SO exciting to me. I know it will continue to evolve, but anyone who has practiced art for some time know show frustrating it can be when you haven't figured out exactly how to make what you want to make. I am getting closer. My work is more expressive, it embodies my own energy and I hope, some of the energy of our natural world.⁣ ⁣ I've grown deeper connections: probably due to IG frustrations, I found myself in DMs more often than on my feed, it felt like a kinder space, and I've gotten to know my community here much better. I've also gotten to know my local community better, and in-person events have made a difference there even if they are no longer where I want to put my energy.⁣ ⁣ I've grown in my confidence: my vision of where my and my art belong in the world has grown bigger. At the beginning of the year I wrote down a dream goal of displaying my artwork in public, and that became a reality (due to courage and persistence) over the summer @blissbakerybistro. As of late this year my prints and notecards are also available at @denovomarket in Summerland. 🥰⁣ ⁣ And last but not least, I'd like to think I've grown as a person. I've created stronger bonds with my husband and daughter. I've learned how to use my "science brain" again in a job that challenges me in new ways and gives my life stability and security, which is important for my optimal functioning. I am thankful that my art doesn't have to provide this right now, because I've been able to take risks and truly find joy in the process.⁣ ⁣ So, it has been a year of growth after all. Tell me, how have you grown this year? 🌱

My word of the year for 2021 🙃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ll be bringing in the new year in typical Jacki style tomorrow night: pizza and movies.
