Day 2,666: quick detour in La Crosse on my drive back home! The symbolism behind this video is about more than just pushups - the 22 Pushup Challenge started as a way to spread awareness that an average of 22 combat veterans take their own lives each day*. *The stat is broken down as a daily average to visualize what the annual rate looks like (not to it feels like a lot of the be taken literally as a daily number), 22 was originally cited from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) 2013 report covering suicides from 1999 to 2010. Per the VA’s National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report (published Sep 2022): in 2020, there were an average of 16.8/ day (6,146 veteran suicides total). In this report, veterans are defined as people activated for Federal military service and not currently serving at the time of death. Beyond veterans - Active Component Service members - the Department of Defense (DoD)’s Annual Report on Suicide in the Military has the current rate at 24 a day as of 2021. Active Component rates over the years (via DoD): 21.5 (2016), 22.2 (2017), 24.9 (2018), 26.3 (2019), 28.7 (2020), 24.3 (2021). While the original VA report is specific to combat veterans and the DoD report reflects the active component - PTSD and depression can impact anyone, veteran or civilian. Unfortunately, there’s no way to know the exact number of suicides, but it’s important to get prevention resources out. Text/call 988 (Suicide + Crisis Lifeline) or text HELLO to 741-741 (Crisis Text Line). Ask for help, whether you’re struggling or you know someone who is (it could save a life)! Participate in the 22 Pushup Challenge by posting your video of 22 online - they don’t have to be perfect, it’s more about spreading awareness.

If one picture can sum up 3 days of fun it's this one. 3 veterans. 3 archers. 3 friends. Coming together and making the best of the entire trip. 35mph winds, snow flurries and even a blown up bow couldn't stop the constant laughter and jokes. Some may think hunting and archery are just hobbies. For guys like us it's a life style. Most importantly it's a release. Therapy from a reality that for others can not be forgotten. Therapy that can only be achieved by being around other veterans. Thank you @chrishamm2517 and @hha.usa for putting on an event that allows a pile of vets to come together with the common goal of healing. If anyone wants to spend a weekend ripping lips on the Karl Too, read 👇 May 31 - Jun 2 I’ve been planning multi day cape trips this season! hoping to make this the first one and then we will be taking a break from cape trips until around July/August. Airbnb or camp for the weekend somewhere, trailer the boat down, drop it in and get a transient slip for 2 days so the boat doesn’t have to be taken out of the water every day. Just bring some 💰 for food, BYOB and some fuel. All gear will be supplied and ready for us by yours truly. Full tank should last the entire 2.5 days. Open to people coming 1 day, 2 days or all 3 days. Schedule would be: Friday: Launched by 5-6am ~ fish till noonish Saturday: On the water by 5am ~ fish till noonish Sunday: on the water by 5am ~ putting the boat on the trailer by 9am #fishingformission22 #stopveteransuicide #USMC #marinecorps #army #navy #airforce #coastguard #wickidfisha #22toomany #veteran

#BuddyCheckWednesday Father, Do you know my name? Do you know what I’ve done? I don’t feel the same, Send word above, I’ve wondered off, I don’t know if I’m coming home, I’ve built this strength in my head Now it’s crumbling from within, Slipping through my hands, I look to the sky, All I saw was the dark clouds of rage, I look to the ground, Does the devil know my name? This cold steel I hold in my hand, Has been my trusted friend in distant lands, This cold steel I hold, Is it the answer to all my prayers? Am I built to endure this? Is it meant to be fatal? I travel this burning road, This life I’ve built is in flames, All that I’ve endured, Will it end this way? The man in the mirror, I do not know, With eyes piercing into my soul, Does He have control? A voice in me says, No, walk away, Things will be ok, You are stronger than this, This is a story, Of my near suicide. @havokjournal Written by @ayman_kafel . #havokjournal #perspective #lifeafterwar #22toomany #ptsdrecovery #youmatter #neveralone #walkbyfaith

Day 2,655: Milwaukee showing off its city pride with a giant 414 flag! 🔥👩‍🚒 Honoring our Heroes: Understanding Trauma and Healing 🔥👨‍🚒 To our brave military, veterans, and first responders: your sacrifices are not unseen. 🌟 Yet, the invisible wounds of trauma often linger long after the battle or the call ends. 🚨 Traditional evidence-based therapies, while effective for many, may not always fully address the complex layers of trauma you've endured. 🛡️ That's why it's crucial to acknowledge the unique challenges faced by our heroes and explore alternative pathways to healing. Compound traumatic experiences demand a tailored approach, one that acknowledges the depth of your experiences and provides holistic support. 🌿 From EMDR to somatic therapies, mindfulness practices, emerging psychedelic therapies, and peer support groups, there's a wealth of resources available to complement traditional therapies. Together, we can bridge the gap and ensure every hero receives the comprehensive care they deserve. 💙 Let's continue the conversation, raise awareness, and advocate for accessible, trauma-informed care for our military, veterans, and first responders. Day 2,648: The symbolism behind this video is about more than just pushups - the 22 Pushup Challenge started as a way to spread awareness that an average of 22 combat veterans take their own lives each day*.
