New ELLE is released with the most personal interview I have ever done. And among cool fashion editorials, you will also have a great read of Knud Romer’s and Ursula R. Christiansen’s reflections and their take on love. Touching & personal. I am used to sharing my views on art, culture, design, fashion and beauty... BUT to discuss the complexity of LOVE felt like a Deja Vu of sometimes very difficult moments. I guess there are no universal answers on the matters of Love... We learn by doing costly mistakes. With time, we learn ourselves better to know to recognise all these qualities we truly would appreciate in a potential partner. And also what would never work for us. I guess we all want to be together with someone who makes us feel good about ourselves, which generates an overload of positive energy and makes us generously giving back to our beloved & the world around us. It feels like we become a better version of ourselves. I sketched my own shortlist of answers while reflecting on my own life story again after reading my interview in ELLE today: Control- and jealous freaks kill the spirit of love. In my perception that is for sure! "If you love somebody, set them free"... Be kind to each other. Be proud of each other. Be generous. Overload of caresses is a must. Inspire each other. Appreciate. Listen. Understand. Respect. Look in the same direction. When your tongue is about to say something ugly, wash your mouth in chocolate or red wine, and sweetly compromise. Learn to apologise. Just remember, when you are in a love relationship, it always takes two to tango... in any life situation. You are not solo. You are a duo. Make it work. Another route for walking my thoughts is btw Bredgade and Chritianshavn along waters and back home. And remaining myself that it is time for visiting the Opera again. On this route not so much nature, but people watching and witnessing changes in the architectural landscape... those great ones and others quite unforgivable... The world is a mixed-bag... Here, and there, and everywhere... I just wish that the new projects were more beautiful. It often looks like the decision on new architectural projects is made out of the intense search for anything different and inventive: The more different, more alien, the better kind of criteria… But WE all know that "the different" is not necessarily beautiful... We have sadly testified many of the opposite outcomes! Generally, Copenhagen is a clean, beautiful and lovable city. And yet... it wouldn't hurt if we had much more trees, plants... yeah, more green spots and benches implemented in the city and around new buildings, like in other European capitals. But hey! I'm not complaining, just contemplating. Sweetening my day that has been such a pain in the neck. If someone believes that I walk through the rainbow on an everyday basis, it is not true. I just try to reverse bumps on my road and a pain caused by regular challenges, with small sweet doings that comfort my inner best bodies - endorphins. And as you know... a rainbow comes out of the combi of the sun and the rain... So is our life – a mixed bag of pleasure and pain that I'm humbly accepting. And while I am sweetening my mood today with this yummy ice cream, I make myself comforted for a moment to get ready for grabbing the challenge of the day by its horns. Cath'ittude in the 80s I didn't smile as much as today, but I still had my brows and the tracksuit I wore in this editorial cost 279 DKK. OMG. Great days! And I should keep the tracksuit for today. My brows are gone now. But my silhouette has got stocked to the same size. And yet… while I'm enjoying sitting in the chair most of the time listening to Baroque Opera, it takes its liberty to allocate differently. And now the prices for tracksuits that are hipe again have reached four to five digits. Think about cosying in an old school tracksuit for 279 DKK to the rhythms of "Purple Rain"... My face is smiling now, thinking of the release of the sixth studio album by Prince! I just had been collected by the Limo at the LA airport when it happened, and on my way to Beverly Willshire Hotel at Rodeo Drive, the rhythms of "Purple Rain" on the radio embraced my mind. And yes, I was wearing a tracksuit for 279 DKK Life is good, then and now. But I smile more today because I notice noticing things I didn't then. I am more present. And while being partly a futurist, I thoroughly enjoy now contemporary life inspired by so many lovely and widely spread cultural references that I have from the time passed. Hello Monday, thank you for being kind to me! I guess the majority of people find Monday cruel as it follows two days of relaxation and freedom. But I have always loved Mondays, tuning my mind into a kind of great beginning-mood. Monday means "the Moon's Day" paying tribute to the Moon. Its name originates from Anglo-Saxon word “Manandaeg" – thanks to Vikings... Vikings kept invading England from the late A.D. 700s and influenced Englishmen in many ways, including the way they speak, travel, and even groom themselves. Vikings actually bathed more frequently than other Europeans at that time, taking a dip at least once a week :-DDD And Vikings are given credit for inventing the comb as we know it today. Razors, ear "spoons", and tweezers are the other grooming objects proving that even most barbarian longhaired, bearded Viking warriors were actually quite groomed. So despite their barbaric reputation, the history of the Vikings is a legacy of positive achievements that influenced England. Waiting for a taxi on my lovely bench. Brrrr, it is cold! I am hiding under my darling 20-years old @hermes mohair-scarf that I grasped last second before leaving home, and also to celebrate Hermes days in Copenhagen. And I am happy to have space on "my bench" – an elegant seat with a Victorian look to its wrought-iron swirls. I call it "mine" because I adore it as a part of the historic building where I live. My neighbour @salon_cph , one of Copenhagens A-listed restaurants, has arranged these benches to please their smoking guests and fully enjoy the old tobacco glory in a chic manner between their gourmet servings. They are called Copenhagen benches since they were introduced in 1886. Since then, they have been one of those visual clues that Danes instantly associate with Copenhagen. And you can hear the echo about them across the world. Foreigners are obsessed with a Scandinavian design, and Copenhagen benches are among their wish lists’ the most wanted. A few years ago, I read a Bloomberg story that the classic Copenhagen bench became apparently an object for thieves. This isn't only annoying for elderly people who are out and about in the fresh air and want to sit down and rest, but it is a scandalous draining of our public account! Oh some people out there! Put yourself together! Especially that these benches are commercialised and can be ordered in the civilized way by anyone, like these ones here. Just reflecting, my taxi finally arrived. Everyone is living a story you have no idea about. During a writing workshop I gave at Centennial College, I was doing an exercise demonstrating how powerful the “taste” sense can be when writing! I had brought in a bag of gummy bears and was going to give each student one gummy worm so they could write about what they felt when they tasted the candy. When I reached the plastic tongs into the paper bag, I looked over and saw the stoic Nigerian man at the back start to cry. After the timed writing, he told us that when he saw me put the tongs in the paper bag, he was flooded with memory. This is what he told us, “I was born in a refugee camp, where I lived until he was twelve years of age. There was never enough food. I was always hungry. I had flashbacks of Wednesdays. Wednesdays were when the Red Cross would come and bring candy to the kids in the camp. When I saw the Red Cross with their paper bags and plastic tongs, I would start running toward the Aid workers. At first, I would be delighted at the idea of getting a treat. Then I thought about how I had to get two or three pieces for my little brothers and sisters. Then I would be given candy and I had to tighten my fist around the candies and run so I wouldn’t be beaten by other bigger kids. And often it would be stolen from me before I got back to my mom and my brothers and sisters. But some days I did make it and I had to cut it into small pieces to share it with his brothers and sisters and it was so sweet.
