Me Made May Days 12 & 13: Mondays are my day off so hanging out today in these thrifted and modified cargo pants. I love the witness of them but took all the pockets off and finally stitched the back pocket flaps down to stop them sitting up. A tiny thing that makes all the difference! Still need to fix the button fly but that’s for another day. Worn with a new make hot off the machine- a #coppeliacardi from @papercutpatterns . It’s been on my list for ages and today I finally got around to making one. A solid layering piece for the seasonal change. I don't have any specific plans for #memademay2024 since it doesn't align with my wider plan for the year to slow down and sew less but I'm using it as a prompt to post some things I've finished recently. This was V2 of the #selfdrafted corduroy skirt where I was unhappy with the fit and colour of the v1. I felt weirdly guilty buying something during a fabric ban (even though it was self imposed) but the colour was so much better and the wide wale corduroy looks way more plush and ✨ quality ✨than the old one. The colour was up not an exact match but this has a much more yellow>neutral undertone than the awful maple of the first fabric. I made some fit adjustments to give more room in the hips (I overshot it on my pattern then cut down 😅) and also add to the length which I think gives it a slightly more 70s feel rather than shorter which makes it look more modern. There is an invisible but yellow zipper closure on the side rather than the snaps in front which removed the pulling around my stomach (and also my nagging fear they were going to pop open at any time). However as I often do, I cut the scoop neckline out without fully reading the instructions. The scoop in my size, was too wide and low, so I had to bring in the neckline with a line of gathering. To make it look intentional I think the ruffle was necessary. I still think it's cute and looks nice tucked in. PATTERN Anna Allen Anthea Blouse Hack FABRIC @eastcoastfabricsau ALTERATIONS I used the the hacked neckline available on the Anna Allen website, added 1.5inch to the length. I may have taken a bit of fullness out of the sleeve to fit my fabric. Interrupting #memademay2024 broadcasting with a new re-release of the #willowwrapdress by @genuinelyempatterns . . . #willowwrapdressgetsanupdate I love anything ‘wrap style’ so when @genuinelyempatterns was looking for testers for this new and improved version of the Willow Wrap Dress, I jumped at the chance. I made my dress with the version that was first released to the testing team, however there were many tweaks that happened to the pattern along the way, that the final version really has perfected the fit even more. FYI if notice a little gapping to the neckline that wraps under the front in my pics, this is one of alterations that was made to the final pattern. I lengthened my sleeves by about 15cm, however this is the only modification I made. This as my first time sewing a @genuinelyempatterns pattern and I was super impressed with the thought and detail provided in the instructions and design. The fabric I used for this tester version is something I picked up at @savers_au op shop (aka thrift shop) which is so beautiful. I am however slightly disappointed at the red floral pattern placement on the back of the dress. It was something I didn’t even give a thought to when cutting the pattern out, but as luck would have it, it ended up in the wrong spot 😞 I have just had the newest version of this pattern printed as super keen to make another one as I have a feeling I may end up making this one into a top due to ill fitting placement of the red blotch on my backside! This is the largest project I made from this gorgeous slightly crinkly/crepe medium-weight linen/cotton blend fabric in a colour called Mocha 🤎 I received as a wad of fabric offcuts from @dogstarclothing a while ago. I had to stitch strips of it together first along the selvedge edges, creating a cut little fringe, to achieve the necessary leg width. The pattern is the @tamikopants by @tessutifabrics, pull-on style with an elasticised waist and stitched-down side pockets. The special design feature is a lower leg panel that tapers inwards at the hem and is finished with a stitched down hem facing. I am happy to advise that I only have a few scraps of this one left now, great for some Boro projects though.. 😜 Stay tuned, there is more to come..! Its such a pleasure being able to give these offcuts another life instead of them possibly ending up in landfill. Strolling into today not knowing what the weather is doing. The fabric for this blouse is by Kathy Doughty @materialobsession . It is so soft, and the colours just pop. I won a voucher for @thorpeandco when the coat I made Bae came in 1st at the Newcastle show. And tadah!! The top garnered a prize in the Sew April Blouse competition run by @cloth_edit and @theyorkshiresewgirl . The back of the blouse has petals and I used buttons from @upcyclenewcastle . Worn today with thrifted jeans and you guessed it… thrifted shoes! I won a pattern from @closetcorepatterns and I’m going to choose the Pietra pants! #memademay24 & #seatedmakeschallenge2024 9 May One of my most worn dresses is this Cashmerette Hampden Dress. It’s really easy to pull on. I think this was a pattern where I really learnt about fitting. I had to do an SBA for the princess seam and make some other adjustments (and toiled properly). I’ve detailed these in previous posts and on my blog emsewhappy.com so I won’t go into it here. I think the main takeaway for me is that, the time invested learning to do these adjustments mean that I feel happy and confident whenever I reach for this dress. #memademay2024 Day 8 Heading to work this morning in my @peppermintmagazine #paddingtontop, RTW trousers (from Saba), teamed with my @tessutifabrics #londoncoat I realised that I never posted about this coat! I made this when I was going through my boiled wool phase last year😆 I had a little bit of fabric left from a @minervadotcom project, and had just made my first coat with overlapping seams. I decided to make a cropped version of the #tessutilondoncoat by lengthening the top part and leaving out the bottom pieces. This was hands down the quickest coat that I’ve ever made! #memademay24 & #seatedmakeschallenge2024 8 May Megan Nielsen Matilda Dress. I remember what a marathon sew this dress was and I had to put it aside for a while. Luckily, I got over that but I still see a few things that I would have liked to have done better. I remember the first wash was when the collar split open and I had to sew that up again. There were a lot of learning moments with this dress even afterwards. My main lesson was to choose my fabric more carefully. I chose it because it felt soft and I love the colour but really, this dress suits a lightweight cotton and not something that’s so thick and such a loose weave. All the details for this are on my blog emsewhappy.com so check that out if you want the details. Size: Made the Size 12. My measurements 38B:33W:40H (Hips go up to 48”). I really should have graded between the 12 and 14 because of my waist. I do wonder if I should cross over to the size 14 in the curve range but unfortunately you have to buy that pattern again separately. It’s quite a fitted bodice. Fabric: Medium weight cotton.
