I've been meaning to share this for a while, and I'm finally getting around to it. Here's a look at my wedding dress, which I made myself! For the bodice, I used the Simplicity pattern #8596, and for the skirt, I went with a half-circle design. I had to cut a larger size than I initially thought, but thankfully the pattern includes finished measurements, so I could adjust accordingly. I made 3 or 4 toile samples for the bodice to get it just right, but for the skirt, I went straight to cutting the fabric. The bodice is a beautiful mix of lace and satin, with satin lining and interfacing for extra structure. The skirt has a classic layered look with off-white satin and a delicate outer layer of either chiffon or Georgette—I can't remember exactly which. Then the outer lace layer. Some days I struggle to get a photo without one of the dogs deciding to photobomb, so today I just rolled with it and allowed Lola to be the star of the show, despite @bygraciesteel #foxielongboxies being the supposed showpiece! This is #foxieboxie number 6 (I think!) but my first long pair. I usually make a size E in the shorts but downsized to a D. Gracie mentions to downsize one or two for the long pants version, and next time I’d probably go down one more size. Enjoying the autumn colours of Bright. I really love the place. We're a little late for chestnut gathering but I have managed to fill a small bag. 😋 This is my second pair of #mitchelltrousers by @closetcorepatterns. They feel so comfortable! I've also made a third pair with the slimmer leg but I think I prefer big and baggy. I got the fabric from Tokyo and actually managed to snip a hole in a random spot whilst doing the fly. Crying was involved but I think I've done a pretty good job patching it up and balancing the hexagons. I don't think anyone will notice. When @stitchmaiden reached out to me see if I would be interested in trying one of their patterns, I have to admit I checked them out and thought they weren’t quite my style as they have a very historical / vintage flare to their designs. However the challenge from @stitchmaiden was to take one of their patterns and make it more modern, so I accepted and here is where we landed. This is the Jasmine pattern, which is an apron style design that can be sewn various ways (see last slide). I started off making the vest as per the exact design and decided it would be a great idea to make it out of velvet and satin. Well if you followed along my stories you will see that didn’t end well! After a rethink I ended up recutting the vest using some black and white linen gingham from the stash (originally from @darncheapfabrics ) and made a few simple edits:- 🪡 cut the bodice as per the instructions and added a gathered peplum to the front back (2 x the width) 🪡 used the waist ties from the original pattern to create the ruffles down the sides 🪡added ribbon ties to the sides 🪡 rather than lining the bodice (as per the original pattern) I simply added bias binding to the neckline instead. Don’t get me wrong, the struggles I had with this make initially, had nothing to do with the pattern or the instructions - it was all me in making a poor fabric choice. @stitchmaiden have created some really interesting patterns, and if their style is your vibe, you’ll enjoy the instructions and drafting. About the jacket: The most common questions you ask me about this jacket are: «What’s the pattern called?», «What fabric is it?», «Where can I buy such fabric?», «How is this red stitching done and with what?» Let’s take turns ☺️ I made the pattern for this jacket myself based on my basic pattern. Maybe I’ll make a video later on how to make a pattern for such a jacket, but it definitely won’t be anytime soon. Essentially, it’s not quite fabric for making clothes 😁 it’s 2 scarves that I slightly shrank and turned into a denser fabric resembling coat fabric. The fabric is from the store @tessutiandtessuti_italia, they have super low prices for good fabrics, they are located in Italy but can send you the fabric you need. I did the red stitching along the bottom by hand, using nylon threads slightly denser than those I usually sew clothes with, which creates this well-readable pattern 🤩 —————— О пальто: Самые частые вопросы которые вы мне задаете об этом пальто это: «Как называется выкройка?», «Какая это ткань?», «Где купить такую ткань?», «Как сделана эта красная строчка и чем?» Давайте по порядку ☺️ Выкройку этого пальто я сделала сама на основе своего базового лекала. По сути это не совсем ткань для пошива одежды 😁 это 2 шарфа которые я слегка усадила и превратила в более плотную ткань похожую на пальтовую ткань. Ткань из магазина @tessutiandtessuti_italia у них супер низкие цены на хорошие ткани, они находится в Италии но могут отправить вам нужную ткань. When @sewing.masin put the call out for testers for their new pattern the #heidipantsbymasin I was so keen to apply, yet had that moment of doubt that if I got accepted could I actually make a pair of jeans? Well lo and behold folks, yes I can! This test taught me so much . . . I had never sewn with denim so I didn’t know how my machine would manage, I hadn’t made many pairs of pants so fitting seemed daunting, I had never made a button fly, and I had never done so much topstitching on anything! But with Jasmine’s outstanding instructions (as always) I had nothing to worry about as they came together without really any stress. I made a size D, however did have to remove a few cm from the waist to perfect the fit. In hindsight I could have possibly graded from a C at the waist to a D at the hips and will do so for my next pair. Apart from this though no other alterations were made so be assured that these pants are very well drafted. If you’re more a beginner when it comes to making pants this is a great place to start. The patch pockets are so on trend at the moment, which is a good thing if you are just starting out on your pants making journey as they are a piece of cake to sew! Since the test finished I believe pocket placement and sizing of same may have altered slightly FYI. Fabric is a denim in from @spotlightstores in a leopard print design (I’m obsessed with all things leopard print at the moment). Unfortunately the hardworking I put into all that topstitching doesn’t stand out too much on this fabric, but believe me when I say it’s there! Finally got to wear my very special dress!! 🥰 I just love it and want to thank the amazing people who helped create it for me. The fabric art, is my own designs, all over is 'Wild Poppies' and 'Tiny Hearts' is on the underside of waist tie. Thanks so much to @digitalfabrics who printed it beautifully on linen fabric (the colour and scale are perfect). The very talented Cath from @you_cansew who worked with me to find the perfect dress pattern from @theboldone to make the dress into. Cath worked hard to ensure it was a great fit, even though she never got to see me in person to get the measurements. The dress is super comfy, I can dress it up or down and style the waist tie to give me different looks. As its a thicker material, it doesn't need ironing and I just love the pockets too! I absolutely love being able to wear, not only my own art but a combination of so many talented peoples work, while supporting small businesses!! Thanks to @leighstrange for the great pics! Ok, hear me out . . . I know, I know it’s another Ganni inspo top - I wasn’t going to do a post on this one as I figured you’re all sick of seeing me make these! However after featuring this one in my reel earlier in the week, I have had so many messages from you guys asking for the details, so here it is - number 5! My apologises to those who are sick of the sight of me wearing these tops 😬😬 - just scroll past! This one is based off the #antheablouse by @annaallenclothing - sleeves I extended by about 20cm to make them long (coming into winter here in Australia ☔️). Apart from that all alter mods are the same as what I usually make (refer to previous posts of the black and white one and the green one!). Fabric is a Japanese Cotton from @lincraft which I picked up for about $3 a metre recently on sale. It’s a really lovely fabric to sew and wear (similar feel to a poplin). Post about my sewing workshop🧵 In my workshop, there aren’t many items, here’s what’s there: a large table, chair, ironing board, trash bin, and a bedside table for odds and ends. In the 2️⃣ photos, I’ve created what I believe to be the perfect furniture layout that I used for many years. If you sew for yourself or for clients and rarely shoot videos, this furniture arrangement will suit you perfectly 🤩 In the 3️⃣, 4️⃣, 5️⃣ photos, you’ll see the dimensions of the furniture I’m currently using, all tailored to my height of 164 cm. So if you’re taller or shorter, they may not be suitable for you! The 110 cm table width was an experiment, and after six months of work, I can confidently say that you can safely reduce the table by 10-20 cm. In the 5️⃣, you’ll find the names and models of the sewing machine, overlock, and steam generator that I use. Well this is a little pattern test I have been sitting on for a while, waiting patiently for its release day, and today’s the day! This is the #laylaloungeset pattern by @rebeccajanepatterns The top is fully reversible, in that the ties can be worn at the front or the back, plus it’s fully lined so can be worn inside out. It’s like 4 tops in one #girlmath I made a size 10 in both pieces - the top is quite cropped so I extended the length to the longest size markings, plus added 2cm . . . definitely something to check before cutting into your fabric! I made a toile for the top and used the instructions to the construct - they are very beginner friendly (top stitching around the arm holes), however for my final version I did change the way it was constructed by using the burrito method as I was after a more polished look. I’m not sure if these instructions have made it to the final pattern as an option, but if not a bit of YouTube research and you’ll be good! The pants are an amazing fit - the waist is drawn in using a drawstring tie, however I did add some elastic to the waistband as I prefer a flatter finish. They also have pockets, which I know is an important feature for many!! Not sure how much wear I’ll get out of the top now that the days are turning chilly here in Melbourne, but these pants I have already worn many times and will do so over winter. Black fabric is a metro linen from @spotlightstores and the top outer is made from a linen from @darncheapfabrics - both from the stash! Can’t stop, won’t stop making these Ganni inspo tops! I keep on seeing so many variations and I’m obsessed with them all - this one was inspired by a pic I came across on Instagram (see last pic) and loved the simple relaxed vibe and the set in sleeves (all the others I have made have a puff sleeve). This time round I used the @swimstylepatterns #ritualpattern - although being an ambassador for @swimstylepatterns this is a pattern I already had but never gotten around to making (that old chestnut!). I obviously made a few tweaks to the pattern, which are all saved on my highlights - I am no expert when it comes to adapting patterns, so believe me when I say the changes made are pretty simple if you want to try it out for yourself. This lovely cotton seersucker fabric is from @spotlightstores - I was so keen on finding some green and white striped fabric as couldn’t get the inspo pic out of my head, but it wasn’t meant to be at the time of making (I have since found some though so may mean another for the wardrobe!).
