On some days, I struggle to get up in the morning which is mostly caused by anxiety. Especially when I’m thinking about speaking to a large group of people, I end up overthinking and staying mostly in my head. Or when I need to speak to the teachers of my children, I feel overwhelmed as I know I’ll need to be present and involved in the conversation. I get overwhelmed when I’m expecting a big group of friends to show up to my house for dinner.. the list goes on. One thing I have learned when I’m feeling heavy with anxiety or maybe even heading into depression I started choosing myself FIRST. What does that look like? Well, one thing I love is to dress up! Putting some makeup on, pairing those skinny jeans with a cute top and some uggs or another cute pair of boots makes me feel invincible! It may sound funny to you, but have you ever met those women who walk with their head up high, followed by a fast paced walk with no ear buds or cellphone in their hands.. Though I missed out on seeing their last tour, this tour was all the more sweeter due to that EP release as a forever Idol fan. Running from The Ghost is one of his best songs of all time in my opinion. As he explains, it was written about the aftermath of surviving drug addiction and constantly fighting. Let me preface by saying this girl has been an idol of mine for awhile now because she’s tall like me. Unless you’re almost 6’ too it’s kind of hard to understand how hard it is to gain muscle mass that shows. But I digress. She’s played a large role in my fitness journey or should I say “image” but as soon as she posted her height and weight it kind of crushed me. So I wanted to post this today because I can’t fathom losing 22lb to be more like her. I can’t imagine changing myself that much to be just like her. This scene I can relate to because when I was a kid I loved sports until my mid 20’s. Being born to a family that all generations since the late 1800’s was born and lived in Philadelphia. I grew up in a small town a few miles outside of Northeast Philadelphia which meant everyone loved sports and when people reach adulthood in Philadelphian families it’s almost tradition to treat sports like a religion and talk about the biggest Philly sports story like a political scandal. I never understood in this scene why Sonny thought this way about sports or baseball and Mickey Mantle in this scene until I got to about age 26. Now I shun sports and I have grown to love this line in A Bronx Tale because if you put the effort and treated something productive like people in Philadelphia treat sports you could focus and accomplish things that actually will pay you rent or pay you a lot of $. Sonny is 100% right why should you care about and idolize a pro sports star that doesn’t even know you and if you asked for their help if you could get their attention they would probably tell you to F off. I chose to post this because right now in Philadelphia all I keep hearing when I got to Wawa or 7-11 is people talking about Ben Simmons and the 76ers losing in the playoffs. I see it all over social media also. I finally feel exactly like Sonny in this seen, why do you care about Ben Simmons he doesn’t even know who you are, the 76ers organization only cares about you enough to buy tickets,merchandise etc. To me don’t take this personal but I don’t think sports should be studied like a science if your just a fan and I now see them as adolescent like. I understand if it’s your way of relaxing or entertainment but the players,coaches and owners don’t know or care about you. Put that energy into an actual science or a non fiction book.
