I was having a pity party when I was at my bottom, feeling all sorts of guilt & shame. And this was after YEARS of feeling like I was on an island, “no one understands, no one gets me…”. And a minister lady tells me, “you’re not that special.” Whaaaaat?!?! 🤯 I was highly offended. How rude! Until she explained herself. She shared some things she’d “done” or been through that you wouldn’t expect of a minister or reverend or pastor. She wanted me to know what we’re all human. We all have HUGE ups & GIANT downs. Looking inward is scary. Some of the biggest lies I have ever told were those that I told myself. I have found that when I can ask myself, "What's my part in it?" I can shed the black and white thinking that kept me from going deeper. I don't have to hold myself hostage and punish myself for things I did in the past when I was less evolved. I also don't have to hide from evaluating things where I truly should have done better. I can assess, make an amends and make a commitment to attend to not doing it again. I can see myself as a being who flows in and out of the ideal in my head. I can see myself as a mixture of strengths and weaknesses, either one being over or under utilized on any given day.
