Huge shifts happening in my spine. I’m now up to 15 minutes in traction. I spent the weekend with new kinds of pain showing up; stabbing between my shoulder blades (T4/5), nausea/vomiting and unable to keep food down at all on Saturday, barely sleeping, my arms buckling and shooting stabbing pain increasing sharply between my shoulder blades when attempting to push myself up or use my walker, so I literally needed to be lifted for repositioning in bed and carried to the bathroom, and then today got two major Chiro adjustments plus traction and a whole bunch of new mobility and alignment opened up. That run-on sentence is intentional because that’s how the last 4 days have felt…like one long string of non stop intensity. My body made a cast around an injury in my thoracic spine over a decade ago and that cast just got broken free and the nerves and tissues from that old injury got exposed for healing. Healing is not a linear process…sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better. It's hard to believe that these photos are only three years apart. My mental health was at its all time low and I decided to paint and wallpaper my room after a lot of wine- we can laugh about it now as I did do a fantastic job! But there was so much pain and I wanted to run away from my thoughts and sadness. A few years ago, a friend and I started sending each other daily gratitude lists. (Shoutout to @tabiandrew for inspiring that). They weren’t always filled with the biggest things. And that’s okay. Because sometimes the small gratitudes are everything. The first morning coffee. A cigarette. Diet Coke. …. And always our sobriety. Over the years, this isn’t a daily activity anymore. Or even a weekly one. But it has become our quiet way of saying SOS to each other. A way to say “hey do you space?” Or “things are hard but I wanted to say hi”. All we do is say “hey friend, what’re you grateful today?” And then each answer the question. Whether or not we dig deeper into the situation, we both know that the hand is there. We know that when we ask for a gratitude list… The other person will reply. Whenever they have time. And that is one of the greatest things sobriety has given me. People. The ability to reach out. The ability to grab onto someone else. And the ability to do so with gratitude. So friends, what’re you grateful for today?

READ MORE: It has happened over and over in human history. The insatiable ego need for unending wealth and the illusion of power has climbed the tower of Babel only to plummet, again and again into despair and humiliation. It appears to be happening again. Those who are unwilling to face their addiction to wealth, and their constant accumulation of more at the expense of others, sooner or later must face the fall. It happened in 1929 setting off The Great Depression, and it has happened on a smaller scale multiple times since then with repeated recessions. What will it take for those who have an addiction to greed to wake up and realize that there is no way that constant consumption can sustain itself? Addiction is a ferocious need to seek inner peace from an external source, a confusion of pleasure with happiness, and a bottomless pit of need that nothing could ever fill. It takes many forms from drug addiction to the insatiable need for accumulation. As Forrest Gump said, “After a while, it’s just for show.” When someone has more wealth than they could ever spend in a thousand lifetimes, but they still want more, that is addiction. It is an attempt to fill an inner emptiness from an external source. The problem is that no external source can ever fill an inner emptiness, and meanwhile, innocents suffer at the expense of the addiction. This amounts to the human ego run wild. It amounts to a need to prove status over worthiness, a need to prove identity over humanity. The problem is that none of us is here alone. None of us can do anything without affecting others. None of us can feed a gluttonous addiction without depriving others, or even harming others. When, at last, we realize that we are all in this together with no superiority or inferiority and there is nothing that any of us needs to prove, and we finally understand that our worthiness cannot depend on anything external source, maybe then, we can become the loving and compassionate world that all scriptures intended. #greed #selfishness #addiction #recoveryjourney #selflovejourney #lovethyneighbor #loveoneanother #liveandletlive #lgbtqia #karlyletomms
