Some of the most dangerous advice: Do what makes you happy, listen to your heart, or do what's best for you. These things aren't biblical, and they don't glorify the Lord. They are a stumbling block to others if we as Christians promote these sins. We aren't called to do what makes us happy. We are called to deny ourselves and pick up the cross before us. We shouldn't listen to our heart, we should know our hearts are wicked, and we should follow the truths found in the Bible. We shouldn't do what's best for us. We should be surrendered to His perfect will for our lives no matter the cost. Live for self or die to self. Chase after our own heart desires despite the cost or follow the Lord leading faithfully despite the cost. If Christ really is my personal Saviour, my life should reflect that clearly to all who cross my path. I should be teaching my children this at a young age. I should be purposing in my life to bow the knee to Him always! He loves you back, and when we love people, we seek their welfare. Second, He works for “those who are called according to His purpose.” Do you realize that following God entails submitting to His purpose for you? You have been called by Him for a purpose that He holds for your #life. In fact, the wording of this verse suggests that these two qualifiers–loving God and experiencing His call–are actually one. Those who love God are called according to His #purpose. And vice versa. Being called according to God’s purpose also reminds us what “our good” actually is. It’s not our comfort or worldly success. In today’s world, it’s all about your platform. How many connections you have. How many companies you can partner with. To be relevant. To matter. But in the kingdom of God, we are already famous. We are already relevant. Not by our good works, but by our faithfulness and God’s goodness. God knew us before we even existed. And he hears us when we seek HIM. When we abide IN HIM. When we live and love the way HE calls us to live and love. How easily we lose sight of that in today’s world that is often built on platforms instead of faith. Achievements and accolades instead of obedience and humility. Receiving instead of giving. Reminding you today to ask yourself, “Am I faithful to my platform or faithful to my father? To my faith?” Because my platform is not going to get me into heaven. But my faith will. My followers are not going to guarantee me a seat in the kingdom but following Jesus will. Don’t get me wrong. Platforms and worldly success can all be great things. But at what cost? Perhaps it’s time to reprioritize. And that’s okay. We’ve all been there. Maybe it’s time to invite God in to help you realign your heart’s desires with his desires. His will. His purpose. Prayer “God I want to love what you love and hate what you hate. I don't always know what to do. What to say. How to say it. So many things in life leave me on my knees, almost screaming up at the sky, begging God to hear me! But you know, we don't have to get as bent out of shape as we always do. Jesus is our Shepherd, our Guide, and an ever-present help in times of trouble. He will never leave us nor forsake us. And He's always ready to help us when we sink beneath the waves of doubt and disbelief! I sometimes feel like the man in the Bible who shouted, "Lord, I believe! Help thou mine unbelief!" (Mark 9:24). I'm thankful that our Shepherd is willing to leave 99 sheep that are safe at home in the fold to go after one little lamb that is lost, alone, and in danger of dying! At one point, that ONE was ME! Oh, thank You, Jesus, for coming after ME!! Do you find yourself on the outside of God's flock today? Well, you don't have to stay there! Matthew 7:24-27 Great Was It’s Fall In this parable, the foolish man built his house on sand and when the rain fell, the floods came, and the wind blew, his house was destroyed, “great was its fall.” Intuitively we know that we can’t build a house on something that is not solid, like sand. However, when it comes to our lives, building on sand does not seem all that bad. We build up our lives on education, careers, or relationships. For the time our lives look pristine, but in the end, in the time of judgment, our fall will be great. Jesus is calling us to follow Him, to head His words, so that He may be our foundation. “Before we can begin to see the cross as something done for us, we have to see it as something done by us.” - John Stott The quote is from John Stott’s book “The Cross of Christ.” I remember reading it and being completely broken. Though I had grown up going to church and knowing that Jesus died for our sins, it was never really personal. I felt that I was a decent person, that I wasn’t that bad. However, I was blinding myself to the true weight of my sin. Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, including me. For the wages of sin is death and I was destined to death for all my sin; my anger, my jealousy, selfishness, my disobedience, and the list goes on. If we look just underneath the surface of that image that we put up we can quickly see how broken and sinful we are. However through Christ we can find redemption, we can be justified through the sacrifice He made on the cross. Romans 3:24-25 “and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.” So before we can truly accept the cross, we have to believe that we are sinners in need of saving. We have to really understand that we can not atone for our sins on our own. We can’t pay for our sins through our good deeds, our charity, or any other good work. Christ’s death on the cross is the only thing that can atone for our sins, and he paid so that we would not have to face ramifications of our sins.
