Something I’ve been doing now for over a couple of years now is working more with injuries, working alongside the advice of physiotherapists, & these are some traits which I have noticed will go an awfully long way when it comes to a rehab process The other thing which is needed is consistency. 🚨Hamstring Durability for Tactical Professionals🚨 It’s critical that the Tactical Professionals have the ability to accelerate -produce force-then decelerate & change direction on the move, either as a result of their own visual threat observation or from an external stimulus. These unpredictable operational environments & changes in running velocity require a variety of adjustments in foot placement, stride length and stride frequency, ultimately placing added stress on the hamstring muscles. As the hamstrings cross two joints which are responsible for both hip extension (straightening the leg linked to hip) & knee flexion (bending the knee) the above mentioned operational circumstances expose the hamstrings to injury. 📖With programming hamstring strength, I like to utilise a tier system that covers all three positions of the hamstring muscles. 🎯Tier 1. Proximal section linked hip extension 🎯Tier2. Centre of muscle linking both ends of the hamstring with an isometric focus 🎯Tier3. Distal link focusing on knee flexion torque 🦵🏻The final aspect to consider is whether to perform Vertical or Horizontal focused movements or have an integrated approach that targets each tier and provides a well balanced approach to strengthening the entire length of the hamstrings. ✅ The integrated approach from my experience works, as coaches we cannot neglect one area of deficient strength and function. 🎥📷 See a few examples of vertical & horizontal knee and hip dominant movements I program for strengthening the hamstrings. We came for two drug tested state record deadlifts and we got them both!! (Unofficially until they are updated!) All I can muster up is thank you…. I often get asked why I love 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 so much. Why weightlifting and how I got into it. I guess I have always been strong but never knew what my body was really capable of or my mind for that matter. For me lifting weights has given me a new found confidence and strength to live my life. It hasn’t come easy or without time and training. I didn’t wake up one morning and lift heavy weights, I earned those numbers on the bar! Lift after lift. Session after session. And I got here and earned it. And I love it. I’ll never justify my love for being strong, lifting weights, having muscles, feeling empowered or my confidence when lifting! I wasn't always this confident in the gym or with my body. It wasn't until my adult life that I finally got comfortable in my own skin and I owe it to strength training and weightlifting. Weightlifting gave me confidence, it has taught me that I am stronger and more determined than I ever thought I was. I stopped self-doubting myself, I stopped hating myself and I stopped trying to be something I wasn’t. I realised I can do whatever I put my mind to. If you ever want to see the face of determination watch a lifter about to step up to the bar and lift! If you’ve ever chatted with me about weightlifting or strength stuff you know that I could talk about it all day and the reasons I fell in love with it, but I am going to leave you with my top 4. More progress on the press today as I was able to add 20 more lbs to the axle post surgery for a single. Then got my triples in and lowered the weight for some speed and volume. I also used a pendulum squat today for the first time if you can believe that. I was very surprised to be able to hit depth without the nagging hip problem that’s been restricting me to box squats. Let’s clear the confusion. SWIPE to see why you need to eat before training. At the end of the day, we want to do the best for our bodies and our goals. And eating before you train is a big game changer in energy levels, output, and performance. It allows us to train with intention and push without running on fumes.  Starving yourself is never going to be the answer to any challenge or obstacle. Our bodies use glycogen (or broken down carbs) as one of our energy systems for resistance training. When we don’t have any glycogen from food, our bodies don’t switch to fat as fuel. It tries to search for glycogen to take. And our body is going to find that in muscle. So there’s a chance you’re standing in your own way by training fasted. COACH HAYLEY AT THE LONDON MARATHON🏃‍♀️ I wasn’t sure if I was going to PB at this years London marathon due to a lot of weeks take up with illness, pulling out of a 20 Mile race a month beforehand because of this illness! However, I went into the race with a new goal and to enjoy myself at much as I could, cheering whenever I saw someone I knew and smiling when times got tough. The Strength Continuum is a concept in exercise physiology that outlines the relationship between the type of muscle contraction, the load used, and the speed of the contraction. It’s a useful framework for athletes, coaches, and fitness enthusiasts to design training programs that target specific strength qualities, such as maximal strength, power, hypertrophy (muscle growth), and muscular endurance. Understanding and utilizing the Strength Continuum can optimize training outcomes by ensuring that the appropriate training modalities are employed to meet the individual’s goals . At one end of the Strength Continuum, you have maximal strength, characterized by lifting heavy loads for a few repetitions (typically 1-6 reps) with a slow to moderate speed of contraction. This type of training is focused on increasing the maximum force that a muscle or muscle group can exert in a single effort. It is beneficial for powerlifters, strength athletes, and anyone looking to increase their overall strength . Moving along the continuum, power training involves somewhat lighter loads (compared to maximal strength training) moved at a higher speed. This type of training is crucial for athletes who need to express their strength quickly, such as sprinters, jumpers, and throwers. We love a swipe style back day 😍. On my hypertrophy days, I do 2-3 sets per exercise and last set is always to failure. Rear Delt Pulldowns - Limit scapular motion to target rear delts aka elbows move a lot and scaps move a little to keep majority of stress/work directly on the shoulder and not the elbow. Lumbar Lat Row - Press into the bench to stabilize, get a good stretch on the eccentric, slightly rotating into working side. Narrow grip = lat emphasis. Bench Bicep Curl - Basically a cable variation of a Preacher curl. Get some nice posterior thorax expansion with this one! High Row - Upper back focus, reach forward and squeeze back. Incline Bench Front Raises - inhale at the bottom, exhale up. Adding a lil spiral open at the bottom because that feels good. Lying Bench DB Curl - Inhale arms straight, exhale curl. Love this one for chest expansion and working the biceps in a lengthened position. 2 Way Bicep Curl - Lengthened and shortened range, hitting so many things with one movement - chest expansion, oblique anterior line stretch, posterior hip expansion, plus a juicy bicep pump. Seiza Press - Lengthen out those lats, hit the triceps in a lengthened position. To the body, anything that elevates your heart rate and turns on your sympathetic nervous system is a form of stress That's why after a long, stressful day at work, pounding your body with more stress in the gym is often not what you actually need Too much stress on top of stress just equals more stress. 🤦‍♂️EMG🤦‍♂️ With the explosion of many cheap, readily available, and easy to use EMG units these days there has been an explosion in their misuse and misinterpretation of what they can and can not tell us! Before you all get your pants in a bunch I do think EMG has some clinical uses for some people for some biofeedback purposes! However, EMG is often misused by coaches, trainers and physios when they try to use it to assess if a muscle is working well or not An EMG reading is just a muscles electrical output, EMG does not tell you how much force that muscle can or can not produce and it can not determine if a muscle is working harder or easier! You can not say a muscle is weak or strong just because you see it has a higher or lower EMG signal You also can not infer that a higher EMG reading means a muscle will develop more strength or hypertrophy And finally you absolutely can NOT tell if a muscle is inhibited, weak or otherwise dysfunctional just because it has a lower or slower EMG reading EMG is easy to use, but also easier to abuse!
