HOW IMPORTANT IS THE RIGHT MINDSET? On 1st May 2023 I ‘ran’ a marathon I say it like that because there were large sections that I walked and I am certain a small part of me died around mile 23 But, 6 hours after starting, I crossed that finish line Our bodies are capable of absolutely incredible things And often our limits are set only by how far we can stretch our imagination Our ability to succeed is based a lot on our ability to believe that we can succeed, and then to hold on to that belief In the face of difficulty and pain it’s the belief that we can push through and overcome, and the stubborn resilience that comes along with that, that will see us to the finish line In my marathon, around the half way point, my body was done, but I was determined not to give in. We’re proud to have been apart of bringing a community skatepark to Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, located over 800 kilometres north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It’s no secret that Northern and First Nations communities are often overlooked or lacking in opportunities, which includes recreational activities and adequate facilities. With the addition of this ~7,600 square foot skatepark, the leadership of NCN brought a solution to the table, addressing a pain point within their community - a lack of accessible recreation facilities for youth. “The skatepark has had a positive impact in our community, providing our youth with a recreational activity and option that has encouraged interactions and mentorship between youth and young people of different ages. Congratulations to Mel McLanahan, TSO member and donor, for organizing a successful Special Forces Medal of Honor Recipient Luncheon at On the Greens Conference Center in Cypress. US Master Staff SGT (RET.) Earl Plumlee shared his story as one of 64 MOH recipients in our country. Plumlee saved lives during the complex attacks by insurgents in Afghanistan. He is an American hero. TSO offered support for this event and was surprised with a bronze sponsorship. The Sunburst Youth Academy is Southern California's premiere residential leadership academy for teens who are at risk of not graduating high school. This program benefited from the fundraiser along with the Afghan community in Mojave, who fled Afghanistan after devoting their lives to assisting our military throughout the stay in Afghanistan. It is hard to miss that summer has already started in the Philippines because anywhere you go, the news will tell you that the heat indexes are relatively high and can be very dangerous. For students, especially in high school and grade school summer is almost always synonymous to relaxation or taking a break from study and for all of us who labor and toil, it may not be months of no work but we would always hope to at least, spend some time with families or friends to rest and relax. The concept of rest is nothing new to our great and awesome Creator. God knows that it is easy for us to become restless in this world, tiring ourselves out of our work and all the burdens we carry. If you are tired and weary, please don't hesitate to accept His invitation of going to Him to find rest for your souls. For He is gentle and humble in heart. His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30). Stay hydrated, avoid long exposure to the sun, and always be kind to everyone during this dry spell! Let us all together pray for the heat index to decrease and be in a safe level. Once upon a time in a quiet Arlington suburb, there lived a man named Dean. Dean had recently retired after decades of hard work. He looked forward to retirement but soon found himself feeling a bit lost. His days, once filled with routine and purpose, now seemed endlessly open and unstructured. One sunny afternoon, Dean came across a social media post for Men Serving God. Intrigued, he decided to email the organization. The warmth and enthusiasm he was greeted with were unlike anything he had experienced. A volunteer walked him through the process of serving, and Dean felt inspired. He decided to volunteer with the Arlington Life Shelter. He found joy in the simple acts of preparing meals and serving them, and more importantly, he discovered a deep sense of community. The conversations he had while working in the kitchen were enriching, and the gratitude in the eyes of those he served was truly heartwarming. As weeks turned into months, Dean found himself involved in various projects – from helping at food drives to mentoring young adults. He realized that retirement wasn’t the end of his active life; it was just a new chapter. A chapter where he could use his time and talents to serve others and in doing so, found a new purpose. Dean's story beautifully illustrates the transformative power of community and purpose. Last September was my first Serve the City with @crosspoint.tv and I went to @byfaithfarm and it was a day that honestly changed so much for me and my journey not only with CrossPoint but just life in general and I’m forever grateful for that. As I post the next day or so, I’ll tell more of my journey and the people who shaped that. But let me tell you about these three. This year I was approached to co-lead a project and when the idea of By Faith Farm came up I didn’t even think twice, I said “YES!” and I am so glad I did because I got to co-lead alongside these three incredible human beings whom are such wonderful human beings and when they say it takes a team to lead, it truly does. Major shoutout goes to Jennifer who truly led the three of us and did so much work because she believes in this project and more so what By Faith Farm does and makes the rest of us believe it too. Our friend and fellow quilter Natalie’s @natalieh333 neighborhood in Elkhorn, Nebraska was recently hit by a F5 tornado. Natalie’s home was missed but hundreds of her friends and neighbors lost their homes and are devastated. Natalie is collecting quilts and blankets. We will be sending her some of your quilt donations. If you would like to send quilts and blankets to her directly her information is in the picture. If you’d like to send your donation for Nebraska to us, you can use our Give Back Box donation shipping program and we will get them to Natalie. Put a note on your quilt or in your box that says “Nebraska” and we will make sure they get to her. Natalie will be working with the Red Cross and other organizations to distribute the quilts to those in need. Quilters are the best! We are also accepting donations to help with shipping costs.
