** 75 Hard - Day One ** My plan was to get up at 5AM today. For the last 4 days Zander has been sleeping until 4:30/5 when he wakes up for the first time and then normally goes back down until 7:15. He was up earlier than expected at 3:50AM so I've been up since then. No biggie - started my workout right on time. I'll need a nap later for sure lol. I've already completed my first 45 minute workout and read my 10 pages. I really dread progress pictures... I think because looking at them makes me feel like I hate myself (quite literally). I've been struggling with my body image lately BUT I promised myself I would post them and hold myself accountable so here we are. Let's see what the next 75 days has in store for me! Progress takes time, you just have to be patient ✨ I’ve been reflecting on my running journey recently as I’m coming up to a year postpartum. My running hasn’t always been as smooth as it is now. Postpartum I genuinely thought I wasn’t going to be able to run anymore. I did my first run maybe two months PP which in hindsight was definitely too early, I managed 1km and nearly peed myself. I then tried again and managed 1.5km but did pee myself 😂 my pelvic floor just wasn’t healed. I then just accepted it was too soon and I needed to chill so I waited another month and managed to do 2km no peeing 💃👏🏻 Now a year down the line after being consistent every week, starting a program with @runna_coach I ran 12km last week which is the furthest I’ve run EVER! So all you mamas out there your body will recover just be patient with it, let it heal and do take some time to exercise for YOU! A few postpartum core tips! Even if you’re not postpartum or have never had a baby, these exercises would still be a great thing to implement into your workouts to help strengthen your core! Healing your core/pelvic floor postpartum is so important! Instead of focusing on crunching/plank exercises, here’s 4 exercises to focus on instead to help heal your core and regain core strength! Being able to manage your intra-abdominal pressure when doing core exercises is essential so if you notice your stomach bulging or “coning”, take a step back and modify the exercise! You can see throughout the exercises I recommend I focus on my breathing in conjunction with the exercises. Engaging my core pelvic floor as I perform the exercises- this is something to practice and learn how to do for proper core engagement in exercises! 💥 5 days of walking a mile a day. (Half a mile the first day) I am 3 weeks post partum and I had every issue under the sun during and after having Noah. When you’re doing flat back core like this - no crunching - we are looking to maintain alignment and not allow the shape of your back to change or your ribs/pelvis to move. Good old neutral. Don’t jam your low back into the mat 😉 Start with single leg movement. This will provide some awareness with regards to your pelvis and your core control. Keeping your elbows on the floor provides more support. You could also place your hands on your hips, belly or by your sides. Add in both legs moving. The further your thigh bone travels away from the midline, the more challenging it is for your core. If your pelvis tips forward (or your low back arches) your range of motion is too large. Build that endurance in your lower abs and deep transverse abs then increase range of motion! Add your arms. Going back overhead for a lat pullover will help bring awareness to whether your ribs want to flare open or your back wants to arch away from the floor. Going wide with your arms like a chest fly, can sometimes feel more supportive as your legs drop away from you. It’s just going to depend on how your core shows up! Basically, the more you challenge your midline connection with good pressure management, the easier it is to find all your core muscles! Yep, even the lower ones. These moves are great to add in as a core warmup when paired with your breath or in between sets of strength workouts as accessory work. OR! 4.5 months post partum 4.5 kgs down. It doesn’t seem much does it? But you know what… It’s consistent, maintainable and of course sustainable. Post partum is hard. So is getting used to your new body. I’m not going to lie - I want to lose some body fat. And build muscle. But I’m also not going to do it stupidly and unhealthily. I’ve got two babes to feed, need to replenish my lost nutrients and I need energy! Very happy with how my progress is going. I’m not about the quick fix because we all know they doesn’t work- and I’d it does it doesn’t stay for long. Did some leggies today & finished with laps for cardio! This morning I hit the apex of my #motherrunner era: running my favorite 10-mile race (@runpacers #pncparkwayclassic) while pushing Henry in the stroller! It was wonderful to be back at the normal 10-miler event for the first time since 2019 (after the virtual version in 2020 and doing the 5K in 2021-2023), and I’m grateful to have been able to participate in my 12th Parkway Classic in a row. Springtime Surprise weekend ended with the Hakuna Matata 10 miler and it was a challenge from the beginning. It was already hot and humid while we waited in the corrals and my nerves were already in overdrive, knowing that I did not train for this race weekend as much as I normally would have. I decided to do run walk intervals to accommodate my lack of training and the weather. I ended up having a blast on course and the weather started cooperating mid race. I met up with some friends, we walked the last 2ish miles, and crossed the finish line together under some overcast skies ❤️ it was an amazing way to end the race weekend and the season! This picture is a huge WIN for me!! Before I started my program with Gracen @bodybyg__ I always focused on the scale and how the numbers didn’t seem to change very much it was very discouraging, but then I stopped weighing myself and soley base my resume on how I feel mentally, and how my pictures change, and how I feel in my clothing! I can tell after just 4 weeks of this program my stomach is flatter, and I am noticing definition again! This is such a shift mentally as well! I feel less anxious when I am sticking to my plan, and making lifestyle changes. I leave in another 4 weeks or so for a womens retreat in Florida, and I am determined to use this trip as my motivation to see how far I can challenge my mind, and body! 🥰💗 Want to join me ?!
