• Watching this as a kid, it didn't fall into the category of comedy. To me, it was a superhero movie. I thought these guys were the coolest. Like, Batman cool, and even though I found the movie funny, the admiration outweighed the laughs. Maybe this movie is the reason I have an affinity for westerns, because back in the day when I would run around with a cap gun, a holster and a cowboy hat, it was these guys that I was trying to emulate. I was barely old enough to understand a lot of the jokes or the actual story, I just saw these cool guys on horses saving the day and I was sold. Watching this now, it's so much more. It's downright hilarious. I'm also just realising that Tropic Thunder was definitely inspired by the premise. Regardless, this was the ultimate Saturday Night Live era, with Lorne Michaels pushing all his huge names into one movie. The cast is insane, I mean it's like someone listing out the people they'd have at their dream dinner party. Take a scene ten minutes into it, where John Landis directs Steve Martin, Martin Short, Chevy Chase, Joe Mantegna, Jon Lovitz and Phil Hartman. 48 years ago today, April 24, 1976, Lorne Michaels, the producer of Saturday NIght Live offered The Beatles $3000 to reunite and perform on the show. Unbeknownst to Michaels, among the millions watching that night in 1976 were John Lennon and Paul McCartney, just 22 blocks north in Lennon’s New York City apartment. Seven months later, on November 20th, 1976,George Harrison appeared on SNL, and during the show’s open, he tried to collect the $3000 from Michaels. He said, “I’ve come all this way. It’s $3000. That was the deal!” Michaels replied, “You see, I thought that you would understand, you know, that it was $3000 for four people, that it would just be $750 for each of you. I mean, as far as I’m concerned, you could have the full $3000. Executives were anxious to replace him with Greg Kinnear, who followed O'Brien with Later at 1:30 am. In one installment after a short stretch of reruns, sidekick Andy Richter described his vacation activities as follows: "I sat back and reminded myself what it's like to be unemployed." Gilda Radner: So, let me conclude and summarize and wrap this thing up real quick by saying: It just goes to show you. It’s always something. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. I had a lot of fun with the film version of Gilda Radner’s one-woman show on Broadway. The film contains a number of sketches including some beloved characters from the late 70’s version of Saturday Night Live including Emily Litella (“never mind”), Rosanne Rosannadanna, and Candy Slice. Father Guido Sarducci (Don Novello) appears frequently between these. This sure brought back a lot of memories. I can’t believe it was 44 years ago. I had a steady date every Saturday night during the time Radner, John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray etc. were on the show. Radner was certainly multi-talented and shows off skills such as tap dancing, acrobatics, singing, and piano playing. (Martin): A Documentary in 2 Pieces (2024) Det här är tack och lov inte den typiska biografiska dokumentären som enligt mallen avhandlar en intressant persons liv och karriär, den här gången den legendariska komikern Steve Martin. Där gamla arkivklipp varvas med trött narration som känns urvattnad och substanslös. Här är det uppdelat i två delar där den första delen visserligen följer den typiska mallen när den berättar om Martins uppväxt och karriärstart till att han sedermera blev den första komikern att fylla arenor, sälja miljontals album och lyfta statusen för komiker till en helt annan nivå. Men det är så välgjort så det är okej. Där vi i den första delen endast fick höra Martins röst så hoppar vi i den andra delen fram till nutid där den 78-åriga Martin faktiskt är tillfredsställd med livet och bjuder på en närgången skildring av hans vardag. Jag säger faktiskt, för det framkommer att Martin under större delen av livet har varit deprimerad, vilsen och fylld av ångest. Han blev pappa för första gången när han var nära 70, vilket var ironiskt då han har spelat pappa på film så många gånger. Bland hans närmaste vänner hittar vi Martin Short och Jerry Seinfeld som han har intima samtal med i filmen. Jag finner inte hans stand-up ett dugg rolig, så de gamla klippen där han flamsar runt med ballonger på huvudet gör inte mycket för mig. Men det var en annan tid och uppenbarligen träffade han mitt i prick så det är intressant att se ändå. På höjden av sin karriär så lämnade han scenen 1980 och satsade på film istället. Filmanekdoterna är mycket mer intressanta för han har upplevt så mycket floppar, vilket han är den första att erkänna. Så här ska en biografisk dokumentär se ut. Informativ och personlig. Martin öppnar verkligen upp sig här, både om dåtiden och vardagen nu. Han har en härlig kemi med Martin Short som medverkar mycket i den andra delen där de cyklar runt och försöker hitta på sätt att förolämpa varandra på. Första delen är vi distanserad från Martin, sen i andra kommer vi väldigt nära. Det är ett genidrag till upplägg och gör att tre timmar går oerhört fort.

I have been watching and loving SNL since childhood. There is no question that this show has had a major impact on my life in many ways. I am incredibly grateful we have this brilliant show to enjoy and hope that is the case for many more years. This time, the show was hosted by the hilarious Kristen Wiig and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! The show was filled with amazing cameos and a fantastic musical guest @raye, who killed it with her sultry sounds! Well, that’s it. I just watched all the episodes of @nbcsnl on Peacock in order. It took all of 9 months (since I watched some other stuff too), but I did it! Most episodes were not complete, but I watched what was there, and have to say that I think a lot of it still holds up (though there were some cringe-inducing moments). I’m kind of sad the marathon is over, but that just means I get to go back and watch my favorites again! I think this endeavor only expanded my love of SNL, which I wasn’t sure was possible. And I still feel passionate about the new episodes to come. Excited especially for @ramy to host this Saturday after seeing Poor Things a few weeks ago! Thanks to #LorneMichaels for giving us this perfectly imperfect show that has evolved through the years but never lost its humor. I cant wait to see what comes next!

‘Tommy Boy’ is one of the greatest comedies ever made in my opinion and it’s so rewatchable due to the unbelievable comic performance by Chris Farley.
