August 2019 I went up to Mauna Kea to help raise awareness and join the movement of protecting her, our most sacred mountain, the tallest mountain on earth. Today we need 20,000 signatures on this petition to support the cause by August 1st! We must keep Mauna Kea protected from being destroyed by the building of the thirty meter TMT telescope. This is more than just one mountain, one issue, it’s a global movement and we must stick together in all things for change to happen. Please help us preserve and protect mother nature and our sacred lands for the present and future generations. "If we don’t stand now for the most sacred, what will we ever stand for?” - @puacase @maunakeaeducationandawareness @protectmaunakea I’ve signed, Pls join me in signing this petition and share. ~• i may be haole but ku kia'i mauna cheee independence *** we walked to boiling pots today- and while my unko is hospital bound due to diabetic complications, i had to count my blessings to be able to hoof it up the hill and enjoy the view of mauna a wakea from our little neighborhood... independence is such a sacred, even spiritual, state when you stop to give it breath. we saw one of our [hawaiian] friends in the 'hood and i didnt think before i shouted "happy fourth of july!" sometimes, most days, i am so freaking haole. jay's so cool- he called out: "happy independence day!" 🤣🤣🤣 eye am so grateful i am partnered with the local-est white guy i've ever met.... while giving thanks for mobility and reflecting on what it means to be colonized, i thought i'd share my thoughts in the wild, to the wild, for the wild. may your celebrations be filled with the spirit of independence and may all our days be filled with self-rule! #decolonizeyourmind #decolonizeyourheart #decolonizeearth #independence #freedom #perspective #kukiaimauna #maunaready #forthehighestgoodofall #now

Stargazing at Mauna Kea, Big Island, Hawaiʻi, is the tallest mountain in the world, towering 33,476 feet (10,204 meters) above its base on the floor of the Pacific Ocean. By comparison, the elevation of Mount Everest is 29,029 feet (8,848 meters). . Mauna Kea is 4,207.3 m above sea level, on this day it was 30 degrees celsius at sea level, and - 4 degrees celsius at the summit. Mauna Kea is over 1 million years old. . I visited Big Island, Hawaiʻi, in 2013. In this photo, the Mauna Kea Observatories (MKO) are a group of independent astronomical research facilities and large telescope observatories that are located at the summit. . The Big Island (officially named Hawaii) is the largest island in the United States Hawaiian archipelago in the Central Pacific. . Highlights of this trip were lava flowing into the ocean, swimming with 22 manta rays on a night snorkel hiking through ancient untouched rainforests, black sand beaches with 100’s of turtles lying around laying eggs, stargazing at Mauna Kea summit and the low human population left the island tranquil and peaceful. . . #maunakea #hawaii #bigisland #kukiaimauna #wearemaunakea #oahu #aoletmt #protectmaunakea #bigislandhawaii #volcano #hawaiilife #maunamajority #maunaloa #travel #kauai #luckywelivehawaii #hawaiistagram #sunset #puuhuluhulu #hawaiians #defendhawaii #kingdomofhawaii #maunaready #milkyway #stargazing #summit #stars #satelites

We had Long Limbs out yesterday to give us our view of Mauna a Wakea- now we can see the snow-capped peaks of Moku o Keawe from our front room, porch AND two bedrooms. When we moved to Hilo 10 years ago (can you believe it's already been TEN YEARS?!??), we never in 10,000 years would have thunk we would end up with ocean AND mountain views! Every day we wake up to this magnificent splendor, thanking the gods they have given us so much to be grateful for- UH signed a new management plan for Mauna Kea last month. Apparently they are still gunning to build the Thirty Meter Telescope against Kanaka Maoli wishes. If built, the 18-story behemoth will house antiquated technology, in hopes that they may continue their colonizer boondoggling of Hawai'i for decades to come. Opposition enthusiasm has waned, there is talk the resistance was just a fad and that people only spoke out against TMT to be cool- We can't even get our hands on a Mauna flag. From the mouth of a young Hawaiian woman, "TMT stuff kinda died down." Well I'm here to tell you the TMT stuff isnt over. It isnt done- even IF they manage to jam through their exploitive management plan. Rest assured, we are still #maunaready! #aoletmt #kukiaimauna #standformaunakea #protectthesacred #ancestorsarewatching #now

😳Keeping eyes on Mauna issues: Repost from @healanipale : Rep. Tarnas, the person who drafted, introduced and defended House Bill 499, is behind the creation of the Working Group and is claiming he will be introducing the bill for new Management for Mauna Kea. Rep. Tarnas is a stout supporter of building TMT on Mauna Kea and any new Governor appointed management board will provide a “legal” pathway for TMT to get a forever lease of Mauna Kea. We will have to repeal House Bill 499 first. #Konane #maunakeaprotectors #kukiaimauna #protectthesacred #maunaready

November 28th, 1843:  Lā Kūʻokoʻa, or Independence Day in Hawai'i. . It was on this date that England and France formally recognized Hawaiʻi’s Independence.  The United States and dozens of other nations soon followed suit and by 1887, the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi had over 100 consulates and embassies around the world. ⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The declaration read in part: . "Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and His Majesty the King of the French, taking into consideration the existence in the Sandwich Islands of a government capable of providing for the regularity of its relations with foreign nations, have thought it right to engage, reciprocally, to consider the Sandwich Islands [Hawaiian Islands] as an Independent State, and never to take possession, neither directly or under the title of Protectorate, or under any other form, of any part of the territory of which they are composed."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . . A couple weeks before all the buzz hit social media about people harassing the seals, I was driving up to the north shore and when I got to the eastern end of Haleiwa town I got stuck in traffic. I already knew it was because of the madness at Laniakea with tourists and buses slowing down to see what’s going on or people crossing the road to get to the beach. Then as I passed I was disgusted by this group of about 30 people surrounding a honu on the shoreline trying to get their pictures and in affect, blocking this turtle from making his way out of the water and onto the sand to rest if it wanted to. Also the amount of tourists on the beach makes it unappealing to any locals that might want to use the beach, which is a message I’ve heard echo on all of our beaches from friends. After witnessing all this, I texted @jimmy_up and told him we need to go a beach take over to reclaim and educate. A week later he let me crash a meeting with @healanipale , Maelani Lee and Mike Honukaina to bring this idea to the table. And here we are now, a few days away from the event and throughout the planning process we’ve been humbled to have community members like @mahinadahui808 and @malae.mcelheny and @steffyleethatsmee bringing their mana’o, talents and resources to make this event echo its message throughout the state. Join us this Sunday to make a strong loud statement to the state . We need to get tourism under control. This is a root cause for many problems we are trying to address not just in Laniakea but on all our islands. Mahalo to all the people that have been helping 🤙🏾🙏🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾 Bring your flags and line them down the beach and on your cars! Hope to see you all there! #landback #beachtakeover . . . . . . #tillthelastalohaaina #hula #defendhawaii #kiai #kukiaiaina #1893 #kukiaihawaii #kukiaimauna #wearemaunakea #maunakea #alohaaina #protectmaunakea #hawaiian #hawaii #thequeenscourt #hawaiiankingdom #kapualoha #photography #maunamajority #maukatomakai #maunaready #kue #keephawaiianlandsinhawaiianhands #aoletmt #tmtshutdown @protectmaunakea @puuhuluhulu @defendhawaii @mahinadahui808 @jimmy_up @healanipale @steffyleethatsmee @blakemcelheny

So they can be proud of doing these things as they grow up and make sure our culture is alive and well long after I’m gone. . . . . . . #tillthelastalohaaina #lahoihoiea #sovereigntyrestorationday #kukiaimauna #wearemaunakea #maunakea #alohaaina #protectmaunakea #kapualoha #maunamajority #maukatomakai #maunaready #keephawaiianlandsinhawaiianhands #aoletmt #tmtshutdown @protectmaunakea @puuhuluhulu @defendhawaii @wearemaunakea

Lā Ho’iho’i Ea Sovereignty Restoration Day What does Lā Ho’iho’i Ea mean to you? Every year on July 31st the native hawaiian community celebrates the day Hawai’i had its sovereignty restored by Great Britain. A flag ceremony will be held at Thomas Square from 11am-1pm, flag ceremony begins at 12pm. Can’t make it to Thomas Square? There are celebrations happening across the islands, see the fliers at the end of the video to see what event works best for you and your ohana to celebrate this historic day in Hawaiian history. Don’t see your event? Feel free to post it in the comments! Mahalo @gregnoircreativeimages for working on this with me 🤙🏾 . . . . . . #tillthelastalohaaina #hula #defendhawaii #defendmaunakea #kiai #kukiaiaina #1893 #kukiaihawaii #kukiaimauna #wearemaunakea #maunakea #alohaaina #protectmaunakea #hawaiian #hawaii #thequeenscourt #hawaiiankingdom #kapualoha #photography #maunamajority #maukatomakai #maunaready #kue #keephawaiianlandsinhawaiianhands #aoletmt #tmtshutdown @protectmaunakea @manaai @gregnoircreativeimages @puuhuluhulu @defendhawaii

Two years ago today, my life changed forever. (On a side note, i am super grateful and blessed I have been able to say this, multiple times in my life, and mean it with every ounce of my existence) What I thought was going to be a 2.5 week stint ended up being 9 of the most incredible months of my life. To all of my family that I had the honor to stand with, and to all of the people who stood before, and continue to stand today, and still continue to stand even after their physical body has left this earth, and all those who will stand long after I depart from this earth, I am humbled to be a part of your world. 🙏🏾❤️ #maunamajority #wearemaunakea #kukiaimauna #protectmaunakea #puuhuluhulu #indigenousintelligence #indigenouswisdom #indigenousknowledge #indigenousscience #puuhonuaopuuhuluhulu #maunaready #maunakea #maunaup #maunaready #protectorsnotprotestors #aoletmt #stoptmt #indigenousrights #nativerights #socialjustice #hawaii #protecthesacred #EAducateyourself

I wrote this post in 2020… and is become increasingly relevant with the way the world is evolving and the energy we are transmuting. The difference is… I am no longer angry… I simply Trust. It is already done…the question is - Are you Ready? Are you Sovereign? -——————————————— I have ALWAYS been Sovereign. Now...it’s a buzzword. . Do people understand the real meaning of the word...or just the definition that best fits their circumstances? Friends and family would ask me for years about my political views, and I would always say that I am Sovereign - I think independently on every level, in every community, including the spiritual community. I will not buy into any brainwash, especially from a paradigm and country who spits on its own people, values and constitution - for the sake of profits. . . I knew early on that I did not relate or want to be part of any “democracy” that steals the rights from people to be who they are, to perpetuate and practice their indigenous culture and religion - as this profiteering puppet US government has done to Native Americans, Hawaiians and Alaskans. Hijacking culture for the sake of profit and Halloween costumes, is so revealing. Creating generational trauma, is the purpose of their presence. I grew up witnessing the GROSS negligence, violence, disrespect and entitlement of the United States Government, how it STOLE Hawaii, continues to poison the land and disrespects everything Hawaii is about, refuses to acknowledge and correct their ILLEGAL OCCUPATION, yet has formally apologized for it. 🤦🏽‍♀️ The current President and protesting people are indicative of the entitlement expected from a toxic society rooted in hypocrisy and plain stupidity for the sake of ego. It makes me sick to my stomach that now they dare to claim Sovereignty...when it should be called ....Entitlement. My message is....Wake Up... instead of trying to be “Hero’s” in a TOXIC SOCIETY - first, get REAL about the whole TOXIC facade. #FreeHawaii #alohameansgoodbye #sorrynotsorry . . .

Reposted from @kakoo_haleakala "You cannot just dance hula and go to Hawaiian language class at night and think you are going to get a land base. You can't do that. Cultural people have to become political. It's not just that political people, like myself, have to become cultural. Our culture can't just be ornamental and recreational, that's what Waikiki is. Our culture has to be the core of our resistance, the core of our anger, the core of our mana. That's what our culture is for." - Haunani Kay-Trask . . . #maunaready #huli2020 #protectmaunakea #kukiaimauna #maunakea #wearemaunakea #aoletmt #alohaaina #kapualoha #kakoohaleakala #puuhuluhulu #tmtstillshutdown #hawaii #lethawaiihappen #luckywelivehawaii #hawaiistagram #hawaiilifestyle #hawaiianlife #hawaiian #aloha #hawaiiunchained #indigenousrising #womenempowerment #quotestoliveby #women #haunanikaytrask

@govhawaii has no plans on vetoing HB499 which basically takes land away from native Hawaiians for an indefinite amount of time. Many native Hawaiians are struggling to get a roof over their head and be homeowners through programs that some of this land was meant for. Instead it’s being leased to big corporations and that money doesn’t go back into the programs that help native Hawaiians. Despite protests and hundreds of written testimonies and phone calls. @govhawaii has decided not to listen to the people and further oppress the native people of this land while corporations take advantage and profit off the land that was meant for native Hawaiians. . . . . . . #tillthelastalohaaina #hula #defendhawaii #defendmaunakea #kiai #kukiaiaina #1893 #kukiaihawaii #kukiaimauna #wearemaunakea #maunakea #alohaaina #protectmaunakea #hawaiian #hawaii #thequeenscourt #hawaiiankingdom #kapualoha #photography #maunamajority #maukatomakai #maunaready #kue #keephawaiianlandsinhawaiianhands #aoletmt #tmtshutdown @protectmaunakea @puuhuluhulu @defendhawaii
