Galactic blast - the incredible night sky at White Pocket, just before the end of astronomical darkness. I rather liked this little rock formation which rather reminded me of a camel in the desert. I shot this at 35mm for more detail in the galactic core. Originally I stitched on another frame of foreground to include the sweep of the rocks but then decided the Milky Way is the star of the show here. The core was an amazing 21 degrees above the horizon, which for. UK astrophotographer was very exciting, I could see so much more detail! Milky way image from Ingarö in Stockholm and image 2 is the raw file before editing. Due to bad weather it's been a poor astro season to say the least here in Stockholm, since November infact with just a handful of cloud & wind free nights. With this session from this morning being only my second trip out shooting astro in those 5 months. Naturally I felt rusty to say the least! I challenged myself to shoot the milky way in just astro twilight, which is 1 stage of light brighter than pure darkness. This time of year in Stockholm its as dark as it gets. With slightly hazy skies and a 67% moon that lied around 10⁰ below the horizon and in the direction of the milky way, it was indeed a challenge, but it actually gave more detail than I expected. I shot for around 90mins from 1am - 2.30am and with nice low winds it gave some great reflections too and was a lovely peaceful atmosphere under the stars. Today is labour day so I'm free and will be catching up on some well needed sleep now! . . Last autumn's shot. Our Milky Way had already turned to the west, where the light pollution of Kirkkonummi and Inkoo takes over the zenith. I stood out quite clearly on a rock because of this. It was a peaceful evening to admire the beauty of the starry sky
PATHWAY TO THE STARS! Another epic night sky from Lake Tyrrell that was not planned at all but only captured because where I had set up to shoot the astro shots with the Tesla this particular night. 2 random cars pulled up right next to me like they were pulling up to pick up there groceries or something then got out and left there cars and just stood there looking up at the night sky. I was parked in a random spot just off the main track to the viewing platform and a good 500m from the actual parking spot for the viewing platform and when they pulled up I did try to explain that the spot they were looking for was down the road but they just ignored me and wandered around tripping over things in the dark lol. I waited patiently for them to move as I had already got the shot set up and was ready to start shooting at this time but after a good 40min I decided I was bored and went to find something else to shoot and that's when I tried a few shots from this cool little winding walkway that turned out half decent in the end. After about 2h I noticed them walking back to their cars after they had stumbled their way on foot to the actual parking lot and viewing platform 500m from where they parked next to me randomly I heard back to get my Tesla shots. This is my first Milky Way panorama of the year, and I wanted to try something different. I aimed to capture both the Orion constellation and the Milky Way core in the same panorama. Last year, I attempted the same thing at Sutton Salt Lake in Middlemarch, using a 50mm lens. Unfortunately, my camera battery died in the middle of shooting. This time, I took vertical shots from right to left using a 24mm lens. I took around 30 images to create the full panorama. However, the city lights of Christchurch washed out Orion and some parts of the Milky Way. Enjoy! The Great Ocean Road Located along the coast of Victoria Australia just west of Melbourne lies the GOR. A stunning stretch of coastal beauty loaded with quaint small towns, rugged coastline, waterfalls, Great Otway National Park, and the Twelve Apostles just to name a few. Last year in May, I've had a wonderful night under the stars, photographing the Milky Way over the rapeseed fields. This year, everything is early, the yellow rapeseed is almost gone and the sky is cloudy a lot of the time. So back to last year... There are still some tweaks I’d like to try, but I think we’ve got something shareable at this point! The image consists of: -10 vertical panels -each panel has 4-6 images that are stacked in starry landscape stacker -those resulting 10 stacked panel images are blended/edited using @lightroom and @photoshop Lessons: -get to the location early, so you’re able to scout the best spot for the pano. Use something like @photopills to plan the path of the milkyway -do some trial pano movements with your camera/tripod... I found I was a little off level at the beginning of my shots which *I think* caused great grief in stitching them together -slow down and take your time! Depending on the technique you’re using, you may only get 2-3 tries for the pano. As time passes, the arch becomes higher in the sky, which makes it harder to get some sort of foreground element in the scene. Questions, let me know! ✨ ꜰʀᴏᴍ ᴅᴜꜱᴋ ᴛɪʟʟ ᴅᴀᴡɴ I saw this composition for the first time from @urosfink (thanks Uros for the inspiration!) and I tried to get a similar shot in February 2023 but the weather was surely not on my side. Went back this March trying to get both winter and summer arches but, again, no clear sky until 5am when it finally cleared up enough for me to shoot at least the summer arch. Still, you can see many clouds hugging the two tails of the milky Way arch, with the brighter stars looking a bit fattier. Ran into some troubles with the tracker as well, which resulted in two frames with stars like commas which caused some additional work in post 😔 In the lower right corner of the photo you can also see lots of purple. Do you know what it is? These are crocus flowers that in this period grow everywhere on Velika Planina making the plateau covered in purple. The land was shot after having completed the arch, with the sunrise light already starting showing up. In the end this shot seems worth the effort of staying awake for almost 24h. The cove where the Milky Way meets the sea, and the hydrogen alpha ignites the sky. The first time I saw this beach I was 18, driving under a full moon watching how it reflected on the water and thinking about someone special, not knowing that the full potential of the sky was in a fully clear night, with the galactic core right in from of the sand. I came back recently, thinking about how things change for better or worse, in a quiet night, with the only company of the stars. My better and most detailed arch so far.
