Pearl Jam / Dark Matter Plus 7" Dark Matter single bundle 今回のパールジャムのニューアルバム。これはもうバンドにとって色んな意味で転換点になるんじゃないかという代物になりましたね。 パールジャムというバンドはグランジムーブメントの代表格であり、その最大のヒットメーカーであり、今やアメリカを代表するロックバンド・ライブバンドな訳ですけど、ことスタジオアルバムにおけるバンド力学という点で見ると、かなり特殊な部類のバンドではないかと思うんです。 なんというか、他のバンドが普通にやっている『耳馴染みのいい』サウンドのアルバムを頑なにリリースしない、という印象があって。いわば良く見せようとする装飾とか媚びとかがない、自然体かつ唯我独尊というイメージなんですけど。 ボディビルの大会にテカテカの油も塗らずに短パンでフツーに出場しちゃうような。えー、それはちょっと皆んなと違うんですけど、と思われても、まぁパールジャムさんだからなぁ、と許容されていたところがあったと思うんですよね。そういう頑固なところがあるけどスゴい人たちだからな、、、というような。 それもこれも今までの実績があったから、なんですけど、こと日本なんかの状況を鑑みると、来日も長らくしてもらえないし、そこに来て硬派なアルバムを出し続けても、新規ファンの増加やレジェンドとしての凄みが伝わりにくい、という面がアルバムリリースからはあったんではないでしょうか。 そこでアンドリューワットの登場となるわけです。 このベテラン再生職人プロデューサーはオジーやストーンズの近年のアルバムを聴けばわかるように、現代の耳にキッチリハマる絶妙なバランス感覚を作品に与えてくれる人で、いわば最近のキッズがアンドリュープロデュースのベテランアーティストのアルバムを聴いても現代的に違和感なく聴けてしまうように仕上げてくれる訳です。 パールジャムも例外ではなく、いつになく耳に入ってきやすいアルバムになっていますね。アンドリューが緻密な感覚でバンドを上手く導いた末にこうなったという感じがすごく見て取れるような感じです。つまりはパールジャムに上手いことテカテカ油を塗ることに成功した、と、、、 あのパールジャムさんがテカテカの油塗ってきたよ！あんなに嫌がってたのに！塗るとスゲェじゃん！ブーメランパンツも似合ってるぜ！キレまくりだぜ！こりゃかなわねぇな！ってなもんですよ。 やっぱアンドリューワット、やるなぁ。 その再生工場はもう90年代アーティストすら対象になってきたんだなーと時代の流れを感じずにはいられませんが、とはいえ今回のアルバムがこんな感じになったのも、パールジャムが久しぶりに本気でリスナーの心を鷲掴みにしようと能動的に動いた結果なんだと思います。こういうパールジャムを聴けるなんてちょっと思ってもいなかったので嬉しい驚きになりました。 レッチリを脱退したジョシュクリングホッファーがツアーに引き続き参加していて、正直その貢献度はパッと聴きよくわからないのですが、良かったね、と安心。 もうあとは待望の来日、しかないわけです。何とかならんか〜ならんかね〜 #pearljam #pearljamfan #pearljamvinyl #darkmatter #eddievedder #stonegossard #jeffament #mikemccready #mattcameron #joshklinghoffer #andrewwatt #grunge #grungevinyl #grungerock #alternativerock #alternativerockvinyl #rockvinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcommunity #vinylrecords #vinylcollector #vinyladdict #vinyllover #vinylgram #vinyligclub #instavinyl #vinyljunkie #nowspinning

📚 In der Reihe "Kiwi Musikbibliothek", die subjektive Erlebnisse von Künstlern mit diversen Bands veröffentlicht, ist letzten Monat dieses feine Büchlein von Dirk Gieselmann über "Pearl Jam oder du sollst keine gute Laune haben" erschienen. Der Verlag liefert unter kiwi-Verlag.de/playlists die jeweils zum Buch passende Songauswahl. Der in Berlin "mit Familie und Plattensammlung" lebende Autor kaufte sich mit 14 Jahren das Album "Ten" von Pearl Jam. Von diesem Moment an nannte Dirk sich nur noch "Stone" Gieselmann (nach Stone Gossard, Gitarrist) und versuchte den Grunge nach Diepholz zu holen. Es wurden Altkleiderläden geplündert und Hosen zerschnitten (die seine Mutter mühsam wieder flickte) um den coolen "Pacific Northwest Slacker Style" zu imitieren. Aus seiner heutigen Perspektive fragt sich der Autor, ob das 90er Phänomen Grunge schon tot war, als er es entdeckte oder erst als Curt Cobain sich im April 1994 das Leben nahm. 🎸Vor einer Woche veröffentlichten Pearl Jam ihr neues Album "Dark matter" . In nahezu unveränderter Besetzung (nur der Schlagzeuger wechselte ein paar mal) und mit Hilfe von Josh Klinghoffer ( Ex- RHCP), spielt die Band als letztes Einhorn des Grunge ( wobei sie sicher auch andere Genres abdecken) dieses Werk ein. Eddie Vedder bezeichnet es als ihr bestes Album, ich selbst finde, es ist das Beste seit "Ten" . Es deckt die ganze Palette ab, als Opener kommt "Scared of fear" daher, das radiotauglichste ist sicher "Wreckage", den Titelsong "Dark matter" kann ich mir super live vorstellen. Mein persönlicher Favorit ist "Won' t tell". Das Album endet mit dem wunderschönen Sundowner "Setting sun" mit diesen lyrics: "They say in the end everythin' will be okay, if it's not okay, well, then it ain't the end..." El 27 de abril de 1993 Brad editaba su disco debut. El impacto del rock alternativo en los 90′ fue tal, que varios proyectos paralelos y/o bandas de segundo orden, quedaron en un tercer plano y desfilaron hacia un paulatino olvido. Es el caso de Brad, banda integrada por un grupo de amigos de Seattle con Stone Gossard, guitarrista y alma máter de Pearl Jam, como principal referente. Si uno se deja llevar por Gossard y el disco que editó Pearl Jam ese mismo año (“Vs”), sería lo lógico que “Shame” se tratase de un álbum rockero y definitivamente, grunge. Pero Stone y compañía tenían algo muy distinto en mente. Con los primeros acordes de la bellísima canción inicial “Buttercup”, con su muy presente piano y un aire tan emparentado con Mother Love Bone como con la maravillosa “Purple Rain” de Prince, es imposible disociarla de cierto sentir de la república grunge, pero esta canción tiene tanto de ese sentimiento como el de viejas baladas soul. Queda patente con ella que el centro de “Shame” será el vocalista Shawn Smith, quien no conforme con una ya de por sí atípica formación para el rock (dos bajos), es un frontman escondido atrás de sus teclados. Aunque suene extraño, todo fluye naturalmente y de gran forma en canciones de esqueleto funk como “Nadine”- con algunos ambientes que recuerdan un poco a Perry Farrell y con los bajos como protagonistas- y en “Raise Love”, tal vez el único tema con solos rockeros de todo el álbum. La oscura y espacial “Down”, con unos climas no tan lejanos a Pink Floyd, también es un punto alto. El disco cierra con “We” con un aroma similar al del inicio, haciendo un recorrido en espiral en cuanto a emociones y repartiendo por igual esa nostalgia tan propia del sonido de Seattle en su forma baladística y episodios de un funk contenido (bastante alejado de los RHCP, por ejemplo). “Shame” fue compuesto y grabado en unos veinte días y fue producto de varias zapadas. Brad editaría cinco discos más hasta la muerte de Shawn Smith en 2019. Nunca conocerían la masividad. Album "Dark Matter" okazuje się sukcesem. Nie można tego określić jako powrót do formy, bo tak naprawdę ten zespół nigdy całkowicie formy nie stracił. Chociaż ich późniejsze albumy studyjne mogły nie mieć takiej siły i wpływu jak choćby "Ten" czy "Vs", tak każda płyta dostarcza momentów świetności. Ich najnowsze wydawnictwo zapewnia jednak bardziej zwięzłą i spójną ofertę, w której każdy członek zespołu może zabłysnąć i wykorzystać swoje mocne strony. Warto było czekać te cztery lata. Album roku 2024? Zobaczymy. On this day, April 27th 1993, Brad released their debut studio album, 'Shame' under Epic and Loosegroove records. It was recorded between the 4th and the 21st of October in 1992, at Avast recording company, in Seattle, Washington, and produced by Brad. The band formed in 1992 and had originally thought about calling themselves 'Shame', however, the name was taken, and they instead took the name Brad with their debut album being called 'Shame'. Many of the tracks were taken from Jam sessions that had taken place in the studio and was mixed by Brendan O'Brien. Brad have always been eclectic in the style of music they write, and this album began that Journey, although the band and the record at the time were classed as grunge because of them being based in Seattle, and being involved with the same circles of friends, like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden (And, of course, guitarist Stone Gossard of Brad and Pearl Jam, and Regan Hagar of Brad and Malfunkshun being other reasons), they had a funk style and more of a soft rock approach to their sound. Music videos were created for 'Buttercup' And '20th Century'. Shame would release to mixed reviews with AllMusic giving it 4 out of 5 stars, Classic Rock, giving it 7 out of 10 and Entertainment Weekly giving it a B-.
