Truth be told I was sceptical about this book the theme of "suicide" and "farmers" is something I'm not much fond of add the mix of Indian villages and pains that this book revolves around and I'm 100% sure that not even in a 100 lifetimes would I have picked this book to read. But a friend of mine gifted it on my birthday and I decided to give it a try. And boy was I proven wrong, this book will capture you and not want you to come out of the amazing World of Vidarbha Where lives a farmer Bajirao with his wife Gayatri, these 2 will make you believe that even in hard times when everything looks bleak and there is no ray of light ahead how to love, laugh, live. These 2 will also teach you what it means to live despite anything that might/will happen. It draws a clear line of distinction between the foreign world for America that most of this generation has put on such a high pedestal and the suffering villages of India to which we turn a blind eye. This book forces us to come out the Wonderland that we have forced ourself to live in which consists of Starbucks and everything nice, And just realise the reality of what is happening at our own home, The pain, the resignation to death, the acceptance that when, not if, when someone we know commits suicide it was just a matter of time not an option. Initially I thought it was really kiddish. But then I felt it's the most powerful and uplifting books I have ever come across. The high spirits of Sam for being positive about everything and the eagerness to do everything he wants motivated me. 💕😌 . . The book also includes the lists which he made and also some drawings which Sam made and it's very attractive and engaging. . . As Sam grew sicker, it was suffocating for me. It was heartbreaking. It was so engaging and I started to assume that it's me who is dying. You can't just stop. I won't lie but I definitely cried as the book ended. Sally has just woven the words in such a beautiful and engaging way that it breaks the heart of the reader. I demanded strength to read the end. It was so so so far from my comfort zone.😌⭐️ . . As I finished the book, I inspected myself and felt as if I have ignored my health and took my life for granted.
