Mobility by Lydia Kiesling Gifted to me by my friend Sam, this was a really interesting read! A look at oil and gas and the climate crisis, but also a young woman’s life as she grows up. I liked following Bunny on her journey! This book was very thought provoking and I also really loved the way the characters felt like fully formed real people. I love the found family and the values of their team; I love Harvest Hollow; I want to go to (or at least watch) a hockey game now so yeah, Jenny & @kikimojo have created a magical world. Nathan is the grumpiest on the team. That’s his natural state but we find he does have some family stuff going on that exacerbates his gruffness. Vera Wong - not to be confused with the much more famous Vera Wang...unless you are looking for Vera Wang’s World Famous Tea Shop in which case yes you have the right Vera - might just be one of my favorite fictional characters ever! This cozy mystery involving a little old lady who means well by making her teas and lots of good food and of course trying to solve a murder truly hit all the right notes for me. I loved not just Vera, but the found family this story brings together. I audibly laughed out loud at Vera’s sharp wit and the the hijinks this group gets up to as Vera riles them up in her plans. I was a little nervous about the multi-POV perspective, but I felt it worked well in this story in not only fleshing out all of the important characters, but also giving the reader bits and pieces to come up with their own theories rather than solely be guided by Vera’s investigation. Also, I was genuinely surprised with the big reveal of this one which so rarely happens with a lot of cozy mysteries! • On a more serious note, I also loved the socio-cultural commentary on how the public perceives elderly people and their roles and “value” to society as they’re often isolated. There are multiple conversations about this throughout the book and some very emotional and heartwarming scenes where this is explored through both Vera’s thoughts, but also the people surrounding her realizing their own misconceptions about this. I love that this was so directly discussed and explored throughout this story because it felt very genuine and reflective - which made this book stick with me all the more! • While this book was perfectly wrapped up in the end, I can’t help but hope Vera Wong will be back again in another story as I would love to read about more of her antics! If you’re looking for a cozy mystery with an independent, highly motivated and opinionated, but comically delightful main character then this is the book for you!

✨ Book Review ✨ O Caçador de Elefantes Invisíveis by Mia Couto is a collection of different tales that were published in a Portuguese magazine- Visão and now turned into an amazing book published by Caminho. 📖 These tales describe woman in the Mozambican society, different types of violence towards women but also the traumas caused by the war, the dreams and life’s infinite resources. “Who lives in the shadows, creates lights”. One of the tales is about an elderly man who gets a visit from a nurse. The nurse wanted to talk about Covid-19. The elderly mistakes the nurse with a thief giving him the name of ‘The Gentle Thief’. Another tale is about a man who lost his parents when he was a boy. They were killed by a group of terrorists. The man brings his family to life by re- telling stories they once told him. “Diseases don’t just turn up, said my grandfather. They light up. It’s like fire: the straw is already there, the match arrives without us knowing how”. Last but not least, another tale is about a girl who gets pregnant by a man who promised her a lot and didn’t do anything. Her parents considered her a disgrace and embarrassment and expelled her from their house. She travelled with her baby to another city where the father lived hopping he would come to take care of them but it didn’t happen. The girl ended up working at the train station where she lived under a shelter built by her own hands. Unfortunately the child didn’t survive and the poor mother had to bury her own child with her bare hands. “To bury a child requires a grave bigger than the world”. I give 5/5 🌟 to this book. Mia Couto wrote each tale beautifully and reminds us all that each life is unique. Every human being has moments of fragility but also resilience. Every human being has an innocent side but also evil. “Whoever has guns can boss people around. Определенно, я бы не назвала это "легким чтивом", но стиль повествования и структура книги, в которой идут две параллельные линии мне понравился! Поймала себя на мысли о том, что линия размышлений про Иуду очень интересная, хотя я крайне далека от религии в целом. Определенно буду читать книги Амоса Оза еще!

Hello Booksta, nouvelle chronique coup de cœur… ça faisait longtemps ! Note : ❤️/5 J’ai lu cette semaine « Toutes nos histoires infinies » par Rebecca Yarros. Il s’agit d’une double histoire magnifique et prenante, je dois dire que les mots me manquent pour exprimer tous les sentiments par lesquels cette lecture m’a fait passer…. D’un côté, nous avons l’histoire de Scarlett et Jameson, une britannique engagée dans l’effort de guerre et un pilote de l’armée américaine. Ils se vouent un amour pur et impossible, qui fait tout ce qu’il peut pour subsister pendant une seconde guerre mondiale qui fait rage sur le sol anglais. En alternance, nous suivons l’histoire plus moderne de Noah et Georgia, un écrivain à succès et l’arrière petite fille d’une romancière adulée qui est partie sans pouvoir finir son dernier roman. C’est Noah qui s’attelle à la lourde tâche de terminer cette œuvre… Malgré Georgia et ses nombreuses réticences. Tout au long du livre, on vit au travers des problématiques de vie différentes en fonction des deux époques : de la douleur physique de la guerre qui nous arrache nos etres les plus proches dans des conditions affreuses, à l’insécurité quotidienne infligée par des proches qui savent appuyer sur nos faiblesses les plus intimes. Le dénouement du livre m’a laissée totalement en larmes, c’est un roman magnifique, bouleversant que je ne peux que vous conseiller ! Et vous, est-ce que vous l’avez lu ? Moi ça me fait passer moins de temps sur les réseaux sociaux et plus de temps dans mes bouquins et mes jeux vidéo. * Tout ce que je peux vous dire c'est qu'il y a des rebondissements, des meurtres, et même des crimes, voire des assassinats. Soyez prêt•es à être tendu•es comme des slips après un repas du dimanche à base de cassoulet pendant toute votre lecture. * Sinon j'ai passé un très bon moment. On lit, on débranche le cerveau, c'est parfait pour ça. Parfois ça fait du bien. Di quegli anni ricordo le file infinite, le mostre, il castello così suggestivo. Ora che tutto si è spostato alla mostra d’Oltremare la fiera è diventata una grande manifestazione che coinvolge tutto il mondo nerd. Ci sono padiglioni dedicati ai videogiochi, ai giochi da tavolo, all’asian world. Mais un espoir demeure, dans le plus grand secret, elle va tatouer les bébés avec le matricule de leur mères, pour espérer les retrouver à la fin de la guerre 🙏 Je vous laisse découvrir le reste 🔥 Ce roman est juste incroyable !!! Dur, déchirant et bouleversant, en bref, il faut avoir le coeur bien accroché, au vu des évènements narrés ici-même !!! L'histoire se décompose en 3 parties. La 1ère, nous explique les directives misent en place contre les juifs. Notamment, leur exclusion de la population dite "normale". La 2ème partie se déroule à Auschwitz-Birkenau quand Ana va se voir attribuer la tâche de mettre au monde les bébés et la 3ème partie, l'heure de la libération 🔥 Chaque étape est un crève coeur !! On ne peut rester indifférent à ce malheur ! L'auteure s'est basé sur des témoignages, des faits réels, des archives pour nous plonger au plus près de l'horreur qu'ont vécues ces femmes 😱 Ana est un personnage incroyable. Sa détermination, son dévouement, son humanité sont des qualités qui lui ont permis d'aider ses co-détenues, qu'elles soient juives ou non. Elle est un peu une mère pour toutes les femmes qu'elle a accouchés mais aussi un mentor pour le personnage d'Ester. Ester m'a particulièrement touchée 🥺 Sa détresse, ses peines et ses peurs m'ont totalement chamboulés 😭 Le pire a été leur combat pour protéger les enfants. Dans l'enfer des camps, elles ont réussit à mettre en place le système de tatouage pour retrouver un jour, ces enfants perdus de la "germanisation" 🙏 Courage, détermination, survie sont les maitres mots de ce roman !! C'est l'histoire de notre monde dans sa pire période.... N'oubliez pas, rien ne justifie un génocide 🙏 Respectez vous et apprenez les uns des autres 🔥🔥

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - “The last time I stood here, I was terrified, but the distance to the ground isn’t what has my pulse pounding now. There’s more than one way to fall.” - Was too busy devouring this book to get more than one quote!!!! I was reluctant to read this series because I haven’t read fantasy since I was a kid, but my friend @epiceatswithem (follow for Chicago food recs!!) highly recommended it so I gave it a go. And I’m so glad I did!!!!! I instantly got swept into the world and story!! I love the enemies to lovers trope and this one was VERY well done. I read the last 2 lines of the book and GASPED, I immediately need Iron Flame!!!!

And the plot in this one is so bonkers and unique that I was enthralled. I struggled with this one a bit simply because I read the last book in the series three years ago and I forgot a lot of what happened. And with that being said, if you want to experience Hole for yourself do not just jump in and start here.
