If these people are meant to be high school graduates then I'm a goddamn tween!. While I was willing to overlook that ridiculous fact because this tale (based on the online phenomenon of the same name) about a group of paranormal investigating YouTubers who decide to play the so called 'Elevator Game' were you must ride the elevator in a specific sequence, invoking a supernatural creature called 'The 5th Floor Woman', did sound brilliant. Unfortunately like it's unlikeable characters it's not as smart as it likes to think it is. While the acting is passable its not enough to keep you involved, the jump scares were tacky and it's ending is nothing more than a tired retread of other far more superior horror films. There was a good idea in here but like many great ideas it was wasted. Thumbs down 👎. The second I saw the main characters man bun I knew this chap was going to be difficult to sympathise with!. But jokes aside I knew this folk horror was going to struggle slightly considering it was just 70 minutes long and nothing really happens for a good chunk of the runtime. After their father passes away, two siblings return to their old family farm to sell off the land, only to find that there ancestral home was once owned by witches who want revenge on the ancestors that took their homes. Again this is another premise that sounded brilliant but once again was wasted, only this time the acting was awful and quite frankly these are the most annoying and abrasive witches I have seen recently. For the record Witches are supposed to be cunning and seductive on the outside whilst being ugly on the inside (at least I think they should) but these one's just feel like teenage bullies with way to much time on their hands. Review #toysofterror Der angekündigte lustige Weihnachtsurlaub von David ( #dayoade ) und Hannah ( #kyanateresa ) wird für Ihre Kinder um die älteste Tochter Alicia ( #veritymarks ) schnell zu ein paar Tagen voller Arbeit. Das große, alte Haus in den Wäldern von #washington soll gewinnbringend verkaufen werden. Währenddessen finden die beiden jüngeren Kinder ein Zimmer voll mit altem Spielzeug, was bald zu seltsamen Dingen führt... Sind die 80er Jahre-Look-Effekte Absicht oder der Ausdruck nicht vorhandenen Budgets? Ist ersteres der Fall bekommt der leider kaum gruselige "Toys of Terror" eine augenzwinkernde Nostalgienote und dient als Anspielung auf den Beginn des Puppenhorrors während im zweiten Fall ein katastrophaler Eindruck bleibt. Ich unterstelle jetzt den Machern mal sie wollten wirklich nostalgisch wirken wobei dies auch nicht wirklich überzeugend umgesetzt wird Klar, das riesige Anwesen inmitten der verschneiten Wildnis bildet eine tolle Kullisse, aber dann hätte man doch die Vorgeschichte besser auserzählen müssen. Außerdem braucht "Toys of Terror" extrem lange um endlich in Fahrt zu kommen was bei ca. 90 Minuten Laufzeit nicht sonderlich vorteilhaft erscheint. Es scheint als sei bis zum Ende Uneinigkeit darüber gewesen in welche Richtung der Gruselfilm gehen soll. Eigentlich schade da die wenigen guten Ansätze ja erkennbar sind aber nicht sonderlich kreativ zur Entfalltung kommen können. Besonders bitter sind die durchweg austauschbaren Figuren deren Oberflächigkeit anstrengend und ermüdend zugleich ist. Letztendlich erkenne ich den Grundgedanken mit seiner Idee dahinter an, muss aber sagen dass mich "Toys of Terror" doch gelangweilt hat.
