Streaming on Prime Video with an R rating. “Joe” played by Joaquin Phoenix is a hardened individual. He lives with his mom played by Judith Roberts and is a true momma’s boy at heart. But don’t let that fool you. He’s seen some things in his life. Plus his job isn’t for the faint-hearted. Traumatized by his time as a soldier. He has the perfect temperament for what he does now. Tracking down and potentially rescuing missing girls. This leads him to a job rescuing “Nina” played by Ekaterina Samsonov a politician's daughter. “Joe” doesn’t realize this isn’t going to be a normal job. As things go left. Forever affecting his personal life along with his family. Watch him sink or swim in the most adversity he’s ever had to deal with in his life. Which says a lot. “You Were Never Really Here” was another weird film. As the kids would say Joaquin Phoenix is him. But boy does he pick some odd roles. I was just talking about him when I reviewed “Napoleon”. The film was a letdown but he wasn’t. Like this film. It was a letdown but it wasn’t for anything he did. It's funny because I think he digs into the odd roles. The stranger the character or film the more he’s into it. Not only was I confused the whole film. The unnecessary flashbacks just gave me a headache and added to my confusion. They should’ve never given these directors flashbacks. Because they go overboard more times than not. It wasn’t a long film but it was long enough. It had some interesting parts and some shock value parts. Trigger warning be prepared for that ending. I got what the plot was but truly never really understood it. All I can say is that Joaquin did a good job acting in it. But that’s all I got. I would not watch this even as a streaming film to waste time. I’ve seen bad films and this wasn’t a bad film. It gets a lower grade for the confusion and weirdness of it all.
