Paris is known as the City of Love and so our dog Paris (A543232) earned that namesake as we know she has so much love to offer. Paris initially arrived at our shelter on March 9, having been found loose. She's a medium size petite girl weighing around 36 pounds. Once in the shelter, she befriended our Behaviorist Savanna and was exceptionally sweet to her. Paris was not so comfortable letting her guard down with others though and did display some difficulty handling. We reached out to a few local training groups for assistance and @beyond_the_leash agreed to take Paris in and evaluate her. Beyond the Leash has this to say about her: "Miss Paris is highly treat motivated, which is amazing for training purposes. She needs time to get comfortable with individuals because she will react to new people. She just started pack walks with other dogs with our handlers - took some time but after a few minutes she relaxed and focused on her handler. Paris is high energy, loves squeaky toys and balls and needs mental enrichment. Paris is highly trainable and loves to work for her handler. She would make someone that wants to go on adventures and get into training their dog very happy." Paris's ideal home is one without young children and without other animals. She was neutral when meeting a cat at the training facility but out of an abundance of caution, they are still recommending a home with no animals at this point while she builds her confidence. Paris is working on the commands: "sit," "down," "leave it," "wait," "jump," and "settle on mat." Countless hours have been invested in helping Paris at this point, both by our team and the Beyond the Leash team. We are desperate to secure a happy ending for this dog's story. URGENT!!! Eli needs a Forever Foster home immediately!!!! We recently rescued sweet senior Eli from a local shelter. Eli is a 10 year old 80-pound lab who is blind and likely deaf. Overall, he did well for his senior exam and testing, but sadly, our vet determined Eli has Mast Cell Cancer. Given this diagnosis, we are looking for a some one to "Forever Foster" this sweet senior boy. A Forever Foster is some one who can provide Eli a home with a soft bed, some easy walks or a sunny back yard to putter around in, and a commitment to love and care for Eli until his time comes. Labradors and Friends will pay all the related expenses, including medical, to ensure Eli gets the best palliative care. We are hoping to find a family that will give Eli nothing but love (and maybe extra spoiling) for the time he has left. Currently, Eli is not exhibiting any signs of decline, and he does well in a home. He is a smart boy who is housebroken and learns the lay of the land quickly. FolkTails dog of the month for May is Joker. Joker is a 3 year old BALL OF ENERGY. He loves to go for runs and play with toys and just be goofy in general. Mandy Needs a Forever Home!! Mandy has had hip surgery and she's healed really well. While she will never be a long-distance runner, she's happy to walk 1, 2, or 5 miles per day right by your side. She's excellent on the leash and has fabulous manners. She can sit, give paw, down, stay, drop it, leave it, and knows which toys are outside toys vs. inside. She will chew on her nylabone contentedly for hours. While she is a bit dog-selective, she participates in pack walks with great success and has even made a few friends. She generally goes potty on command, too. Tuesday was National Pet Adoption Day and guess who DIDN’T get adopted. 😢 Poor Chi. A news station in Houston did a story on him and still no takers. This says more about the insane glut of unwanted dogs we have in Texas than it does about Chi because he’s such a good boy. So I’m pleading with anyone who reads this…please think hard about anybody you know who might give Chi a good home. If you’re in the USA or Canada he is available for transport. As a matter of fact, his adoption and transport fees are sponsored for a qualifying adopter. He’s such a good boy. Is he perfect? Nope. No dog is, so it’s always a matter of matching a dog to the person who is best able to address whatever that dog needs. Chi could use a little leash training. His foster mom (a dog trainer) has some health issues that have severely limited her ability to leash train. He does very good on an Easy Walk harness, tho. If anyone has any questions about his personality just contact me and I’ll put you in touch with his foster mom.
