Showing the world your authentic self can be really scary. Especially when we donโt want to define ourselves based on our past. But denying that it happened isnโt healthy either. Iโve found that thereโs a delicate balance between standing in your present and paying homage to your past. I believe when youโre sharing yourself with others itโs important for them to see and know the whole picture. Hiding the icky stuff, never talking about the rough moments, or skipping the parts about your trauma paint a false picture. It leads others to think that they are alone in the battle of life some days. Itโs not inclusive at all. I donโt want to swim in the sea of sadness, but Iโm human. Some days thatโs what I do. Some weeks are more challenging and lead to complicated emotions. Some events can trigger past memories and bring me down. Thatโs life. Thatโs part of being human. The reality is our past has impacted our present. I know for me, it has made me who I am. Iโve gained great strength from my past struggles. Itโs allowed me to relate to others in a very intimate way. Itโs given me an opportunity to connect with those whoโve walked a similar path. I feel that itโs a disservice to those around me & those reading my words, to never share hard moments. I want them to know Iโve been there, that I understand how they feel, that I can relate. And I also want them to see where I am today, even with those struggles, so that they know surviving is possible. I believe we need to show others our messy humanness so that they can, not only relate and feel normal, but also stand beside us and comfort us when we are in need of support. High flying to end the season! ๐ฆโ๐ฅ-๐ด๐ผโโ๏ธ Put on by our friends @dogrunnin, the Last Class Bash race was a fun way to cap off what has been a really fabulous spring season of training and racing for Sam and I. The race offerings had a bunch of really fun options to celebrate the end of the season including an opportunity to participate in a relay race! The races were zippy, bumpy and included a good number of turns, a good test for a young dog brain. A really solid effort from Sam who took first place in the 1-dog bikejor and then later brought our relay team to the finish line in victory. The end of the season is always a little bitter sweet. Weโve had so much fun out on the circuit! Feeling a lot of gratitude for the people and the dogs in this community. And also for Sam, who continues to motivate me to be better and pushes our team to new heights. ๐Woodlands Caravan Park - Devils Bridge, Aberystwyth First thing that came to my mind when we pulled up was WOW. Situated in the quiet village Devils Bridge, the scenery is breathtaking. We elected for an electric pitch and due to the weather were provided with a hard standing pitch (thank god!). The pitches were a great size for the campervan with a water tap only a few metres away and easily accessible electric. The facilities were some of the best Iโve ever seen at a campsite and a short walk away from our pitch. The toilets and showers were spotless and modern. The showers always had hot water and the cubicles themselves were spacious. Big brownie points for the vanity station which included hairdryer and wall sockets for straighteners! The washing up stations were great - plus there was a little fridge to the far right. Again everything was spotless. There is also a cute little cafe by the reception at the bottom of the hill. Just a 5 minute walk away you have the Devils Bridge Waterfall walk which is dog friendly. It is cheap for a ticket and you can choose the long or short route. There is a hotel at the end of the walk where you can stop off for a drink and a cafe with some souvenirs en route to the campsite. There is also a dog friendly steam railway and cafe a few minutes drive away. The staff at the cafe were absolutely incredible and there are lots of dog treats available to purchase as well as dog biscuit tins around the cafe for those hungry little puppers! For those wanting a more luxurious camping experience, surrounded by mountains and forest, this is the pawfect place to visit. Despite her current bout with heartworm, she is a happy, wiggly girl every single day ๐ She just fits so perfectly in our home ๐ฅน Volunteering at the rescue healed my heart in ways I very much needed, but also opened my eyes to the difference that giving up even a little bit of my time to help out can make. Nothing compares to the look on shelter dogs' faces when they know they're about to be taken on a little adventure. This month has ended a bit roughly for me, but I'm itching to get back to spending my weekend mornings walking some sweet pups who are waiting for their forever homes. In the meantime, I'll be busy enjoying Stella, aka the lil gremlin who has made my volunteer experience worthwhile ๐ฅฒ
