2020 Tscheppe Salamander Chardonnay (Morillon) from Styria. Haven’t had Austrian in a long while and this is certainly a good one to get back to! Previous vintage was one of the Chards I have enjoyed most and this one lived up to expectations, giving lots of pleasure over a few evenings. Intense yellow fruits with lemon curd superbly balanced by vibrant acidity with steely veins of saline minerality. 🍷: Butterfly « Plus » 2021 👨🏼🌾: Andreas Tscheppes 🍇: 100% Muscat ——— Le domaine d’Andreas Tscheppe est situé dans la région de la Styrie en Autriche près de la frontière Slovène. Certaines parcelles sont situées à 500 m d’altitude. Les étiquettes font référence à la grande biodiversité présente dans les vignes. Les conditions climatiques du millésime 2021 ont été compliquées. Une vague de froid importante est arrivée lors de l’élaboration du vin ce qui a eu pour conséquence de ralentir la fermentation. Pour remédier à ce problème Andreas Tscheppe a décidé de mettre le vin en bouteille malgré quelques grammes de sucre résiduel restants, afin d’en faire un pétillant naturel. C’est la raison pour laquelle il a ajouté un « plus » au nom de la cuvée. À la dégustation un pétillant à la bulle délicate qui s’offre à nous sur une aromatique florale et fruitée sur des notes de jasmin, de pêche, de litchi. Ce sont des vins uniques, purs et profonds aux aromatiques incroyables, débordant de notes de fleurs, de minéraux et de fruits. Délicieux dans leur jeunesse ils ont un excellent potentiel de garde. Les quantités sont extrêmement limitées. 🇬🇧 Styria is a region located in southern Austria, on the border with Slovenia. There are immense and magnificent green hills with slopes so steep that it is impossible to use the tractor. It is here, that Andréas has with his hands, created terrace on his Opok (gray marl) and reddish clay soils before planting his vines, always manually of course. An enormous amount of work that he carried out with the conviction that the vitality and complexity of the soil, plants and fauna are the basis for producing living, natural, pure, deep, complex and harmonious wines. Nem könnyű velem a lépést tartani, de nem is lehetetlen. Ime a januári borulások: Egy palack alapján sose ítélj. Még decemberben szaladtam bele egy enyhén oxidált, fáradtnak tűnő Ganevat La Gravière 2016-osba, így gyorsan előbányásztam egy másik palackot a pince mélyéről. Ég és föld volt a kettő, és habár ez csak egy negocian bor, valósággal dalra fakadt, kortalan, friss, igazi jurai csoda, tele energiával és élettel. Kár, hogy a Ganevat árak ennyire elszálltak. ANDREAS TSCHEPPE : INTRO Andreas Tscheppe has been forging his own path since 2006 and is making beautiful examples of natural wine. In the southern Styria region, bordering Slovenia, he cultivates wines based on biodynamic principles. For Andreas, cultivation isn’t the core of his approach. According to his philosophy, he and his wife Elisabeth only accompany the wines “in their becoming,” listening to them and communicating with them. This shapes the fundamental concept behind the birth of his wines: a touch of nothingness guiding the transformation into beautiful wines. The meticulously terraced vineyards, wild and teeming with life, sit as high as five hundred meters and are adorned with wild herbs, grasses, stones, and - insects.
