Mofongo. It might be a weird word for some of you, but it is a delicious and very loved food in Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands. This is my entry for the ‘Art In The Kitchen’ challenge. Food makes me happy, especially when I eat outside. We used to live in Luquillo, a little surf town at the base of the Rainforest. There are green plantain and banana trees everywhere, and of course, the beautiful beach. At the Kioskos, you can find all kinds of food, so make sure you go there once you are in Puerto Rico. Mofongo is a traditional Puerto Rican and Dominican Republic dish made of fried and mashed green plantains. I wanted to make this poster, with the plantain trees and the Rainforest in the background, to give you a peaceful feeling. Of course, I added my staple retro texture to finish my illustration. For 20 yrs I’ve lived with this kitchen tool on my counter ( alabaster mortar and pestle). But while painting yesterday, I saw it for the first time. This is the beauty of a still life—a simple subject, when studied, reveals a world of light, tone, texture etc.—the more you look the more you see, and you know it for the first time. I’ve since learned that the metaphysical properties of alabaster are: “improves mental clarity, increases spiritual awareness, and promotes creativity. Shakshuka la cuptor💖 Ingredientele in ultima poza ⭐️ 💫Mod de preparare: Intr-o tigaie incapatoare am pus putin ulei de masline, ceapa taiata marunt si usturoiul maruntit si el. Le-am calit 3-4 minute pana s-au inmuiat. Am adaugat in tigaie ardeiul taiat felii, rosiile cubulete, passata si condimentele si le-am lasat 4-6 minute sa se imbine aromele. Dupa am rasturnat compozitia intr-un vas yena, am pus ouale pe rand facandu-le loc cu lingura, am pus capacul si am dat totul la cuptor pentru 10 minute. Daca vreti ouale mai moi puteti scadea timpul la 8 minute. Le-am servit cu patrunjel proaspat taiat deasupra si paine cu maia. Ecco quali sono per me le cinque pizzerie più buone e “chic” nel centro storico di Roma a pochi passi dai luoghi d’arte. Per la qualità degli ingredienti utilizzati e la location (quindi anche vicinanza ai luoghi d’arte) queste mi sono piaciute maggiormente. Sono tutte situate nel centro storico di Roma e in alcuni casi ci sono stata anche più di una volta, perché mi piace scegliere con accuratezza i posti che consiglio. Ovviamente, ce ne sono altre che meritano, ma qui mi concentro sulla mia top five. Personalmente prediligo la pizza romana rispetto a quella napoletana. Però in entrambi i casi quello che conta davvero è che siano fatte con materie prime selezionate scrupolosamente. La location e la cura nei dettagli sono aspetti che valuto con altrettanta importanza. OK, I'm getting a little bit obsessed with this app now, but what a brilliant way for collectors to be able to view works in situ. I'm still absolutely an advocate of real-life photo shoots and love placing works around my house and others to photograph, but sometimes there's just not enough time in the day! And with small children, there's always a lot of tidying to do first. So this has been a great alternative so far. @artroomsapp I have also been able to put these large original paper pieces in a frame so you can get an idea of what they'd be like. I have 10 of this size at 56x76cm on 425gsm paper, landscape, and portrait. In progress… A grapefruit half propped against the wall. It’s always a challenge photographing light backgrounds with my phone. I usually place white paper around the edges so the off-whites don’t get bleached out or gray. Taking the photo from a distance seems to help (see short video at the end). In progress… I’ve pretty much ignored this painting since the fall. Yesterday I decided to mix up some creamy off-whites and lighten the background, especially on the left. The raw umber underpainting had been peeking through, making the background dingy. Not finished, but looking fresher already.
