I'll let you in on a big secret.... I've been shit scared to come back to the U.K. Absolutely terrified. In India my health has been the best in years, my yoga practice, my walking, my diet. I've stayed off alcohol. I've eaten good veg food, indulging every now and then for cake and coffee. I've sat cross legged on the floor for the first time in years! Still with pain, but not with such an amount that I have to move after even 29 seconds like before. I've practiced 8 hours a day, seen the sunrises and sunsets, watched the monkeys and cows and street dogs living in the moment. I've had friends but also the space to detach, lovely supportive people with similar goals. I've delved into traditional breathing techniques, learnt Mantras to ward away death, and meditated on my Abdominal chakra so much one day I got stomach cramps! That's the chakra awakening I tell myself. Life has been easy. Routine and food given to me. Just learn, breathe, and appreciate. The thought of coming back to the UK, replacing the Indian winter sunshine and highs of 24 degrees with grey, cold, wet.... the clocks going back.... so much life admin to do next three weeks.... family issues that I cant vocalise at present..... and a hundred other things..... One word. Terrifying! But that's the whole point, isn't it. We can flourish when it's easier but the whole point is to bring the tools of harmony into chaos. To deal with life's problems and deal well. To breathe when everyone around you is running. To make time for Yoga, to move, to create space. Because life is movement. If you're not moving you're dead. The goal is to bring all your techniques and fight back against the turmoil around you. I have to accept that every beginning has an end, but an end in itself is the start of a new beginning. Turn attachment into acceptance. Release the practice in India and be happy. Our greatest sufferings in life come from our attachments. So I'm terrified. But I'll be looking straight forward and walking towards the beast. Trying to breath. Trying to be at peace. Namaste 🙏

The way my locs matured, the ends bunched up and became very thick, hard, and inflexible. There was also a lot of lint and buildup inside. Not uncommon, but it really bugged me. I've been waiting for my hair to grow to a length where I felt ok with losing 4-5 inches. That time came this weekend when I was looking for a reason to avoid my English Comp essay. Hair holds energy, and my locs symbolize the massive healing I have undergone in the last 4 years. These ends were part of an amazing new beginning, but there was a lot of chaos and turmoil occurring at the same time. It was time to let that go. I was on a train, and it turns out that it was actually from a video this gentleman was playing on his phone, in the same bogey. I was seething inside, because it was one of those many “Hindu Khatre Mein Hain” product promotions with cheap bollywood rip-off music, that is sponsored by your nearest local RSS outlet. I groggily whispered ‘earphones’ to the guy while looking the other way. I had fallen asleep last night trying to distract myself from the absurd ‘protests’ and public hatred being spewed against Christians just before Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. I remember singing Christmas carols as a child in the neighbourhood where I lived. My house was very close to a church in Chembur, and many of my friends were from families that were a part of the local parish. A child’s imagination not withstanding, it felt like a kinder time, with the good cheer, warmth and safety of community, and familiar places. The Midnight Mass was a big secret then- I wasn’t allowed to go with my friends because, apparently, it was past my bed time. The church would be decked up with a crib outside the threshold, and light streaming through the stain glass paintings. I wanted to go, just to see all the important Christian uncles and aunties of Chembur turn up in their dapper suits and glitzy gowns. 2020. Many beginnings and some ends. The world was on fire, and I got to practice my gratitute for what I have. (note to self: keep on practicing) . . After all of my new work plans got cancelled (workshops during a pandemic…good joke), I went back working full time at the social field. I got to see the daily impact I can have on young women on their way to figure out their lives and future work, and could be there for them in hard times, like after the terror attack of November 2nd. . . Beginnings. I fell in love with a tree. I got (was allowed) to take it home from work at the first lockdown, so it won‘t die. Not only did it survive, it thrived! And I got to see every moment of it. Finding hope in emerging green leaves, an evidence that life keeps on, even if it feels like I‘m stuck. …they let me keep it, and i´m still very much in love. . . Ends. It looked like I could stay for the new project of 2021, but that changed too (not enough budget). So I had to say my goodbye to the amazing ending project, and hope to find something else. (shout out to the world/Vienna: I‘m looking for a workplace with +-20 hours) . . Beginnings. I had the best work college I could ask for. Working close with her was healing on many levels. Now she‘s officially part of my life, and I‘m blessed to be able to call her my friend. . . Ends. My grandmother died 2 months ago, and that generation in my family is gone. . . My Identities were very visible in my life this year. I‘m still trying to figure out my place, and how to and where to speak about it. . . Beginnings. Started learning Arabic with my mom through zoom (we live in different countries). We are 9 months into it, and it‘s the best consistent quality time we‘ve ever had. . . 2019 I printed „claim your space“, 2020 I was starting to feel it. Got to stay true to myself and call out (and in) problematic behaviours at work and else where‘s. Surprisingly, I did not get shamed for it, but appriciated for speaking out. I‘m not gonna hide anymore to make everybody else comfortable. Life is short, and I‘m here to live with all of my authentic self. . . ***continue reading in the comments***
