6 months ago I was around 242. Down to 199 as of today. Coach is doing great with my recovery plan and I look forward to building my size back up but staying leaner this time. Back up a few lbs but I had a couple self pity cheat meals lol. Me and coach will switch gears to a new plan since the shows are off the table. Many leg days in my future after surgery and we will attempt to stabilize blood sugar with trial and error of different foods. 125. 277 days... It's been 277 days (9 months 4 days (39wks 4days)) since my bicep distal re-attachment and I can gladly say I'm 90% back to where I was pre-injury. The journey has been long but it's taught me to be resilient at times I've been in doubt, perserver when progress was slow, and never quit! It's about having a positive mental attitude... and only then will you succeed. 94. Ahead of schedule. Had my six week follow-up post op being told I'm three weeks ahead of schedule with regards to rehab, range of movement and general healing. As seen in the photo, the lovely work of the surgeons who inserted an endo button (made form a composite (peak)) into my radius. The re-attachment should be stronger than the initial attachment of the tendon but it'll take time before I'm safe to lift heavy again. It's nice to be reassured by professionals how well my recovery is going with the added benefit of having a positive attitude which is further enhanced by seeing improvements week by week. In such unfortunate circumstances people tend to say that an individual; it being a strength/power/endurance/cross athlete can't/won't come back, but I'm determined to come back bigger, stronger, and leaner. I'm hungry for this! No. 92 Progress... It's been six weeks post operation and I'm recocering very well being ahead of schedule. I have full range of movement in all panes and am starting my second phase of rehab (partial bicep curls using a resistance band.) I've also been extensively working on reducing scar tissue by massaging daily and also taking a great supplement (ome of many) that aids in its breakdown #inflammatone by #biornaquanticsltd As with injuries we can get lost and fall into a deep dark place where we feel alone. No.87 Thrust Away! Part of this session involved doing multiple sets of hip thrusters at 200kg/440lbs for sets of 10. I'm incorporating these to strengthen my glutes and work on building strength, speed and power. This will be a great transition to weightlifting forcing the glutes to drive (push forwards) during the hip extension phase when getting under the bar in the snatch and clean. Pointers: - Keep a neutral spine and raise the hips to full hip hyperextension - Focus on using the glutes to push the hips straight upward. This focus is critical for building the targeted muscle group. - Use a smooth tempo (depending on what you're focusing on) - Hold the last reply of each set isometrically at the top for 3-10 seconds. This will build good habits and ensure you're strengthening endurance hip extension. - Push through your heals and avoid rising up onto your toes. No. 83 Long road ahead It's been just over three weeks post operation (23 days) and I've been back training with a plan to reduce damage limitation. Arm is recovering well reaching full extension and a good rotation in the pro and supination rotations. The next several months will be aimed at working on my weaknesses during the recovery period. This session consisted of several sets of 60m sled pulls and walking lunges whilst wearing a weighted vest. It's going to be a long road ahead but I'll be back stronger. Don't limit yourself to temporary restrictions. No. 82 Bicep Distal tear Sometimes in life things happen that are out of our control regardless of what preventative measures we take. A few weeks ago (23/11/16) I sustained a full bicep distal rupture whilst stretching on the olympic rings. As trivial as any exercise may seem we put our bodies through a great deal of strain when subjected to lifting a lot of weight which may make us susceptible to unexplained injuries. I was operated a week later and today I had my bandage and plasters removed. Glad I wasn't put in a cast! I'm extremely happy with how well I've healed in such a short space of time but I have a long journey ahead consisting of rehab and getting back to where I was. This will be a time for discovery ensuring I come back bigger, fitter, stronger and leaner!
