Beautiful Newt is unfortunately going through a very rough time. After noticing something was not quite right with her we scheduled her in with our avian vet. On her first visit she was sent home with antibiotics to watch for improvement but after 3 days we were still very concerned and took her back for investigation. With x-rays, ultrasound and blood work our vet found she has an extremely swollen liver (2x the normal size) due to an internal infection, which has impacted her breathing as the liver is pressing on her air sacs. Thankfully she is already showing signs of improvement with medications and supportive care. The cause of the infection is still unknown and will require further investigation to diagnose once she is feeling well enough. Our account is still at $357 owing, we are so appreciative of any donations to help us with Newts medical bills. She will be going back to the vet next week for a follow up which will be roughly another $300. Local guides here often tell us that this white marble arch used to be the swing of Noorjahan Begum. When the Jats defeated Ghazi Uddin II (1753), they plundered Delhi, and many things from the Red Fort were brought from Delhi to Deeg, the capital of the Bharatpur state. A bird sanctuary has overcome the challenge of the Scottish weather to breed what are believed to be the country's only baby emus. Staff at Bird Gardens Scotland, a conservation charity in the Borders, are celebrating after their human intervention led to the first chick hatching on Saturday. It's the culmination of a project that's taken more than seven years to complete. The flightless birds are rare outside of their native Australia, where they are the largest indigenous bird. Intriguingly, with emus it's the male that incubates the eggs, rather than the female. Bird Gardens Scotland's male had suffered numerous set-backs in recent years due to the ‘Beast from the East’ in 2018, late frosts and storms. Owen Joiner, founder and joint director of the sanctuary based in Oxton, Berwickshire, said that Scotland’s unpredictable weather seemed to ruin efforts. He said: "Our male's had a lot of disappointments. The ‘Beast from the East’ delivered horrendous conditions and he didn’t manage to protect the eggs through. Caught this Great Egret cruising along the water after a photo shoot near Newburyport the other day. The way it was gliding just above the water with the sun at its back was beautiful. I love when nature catches you off guard, and something unexpected and cool happens.
Reinita Atigrada🐯 [Setophaga tigrina] Reinita pequeña con pico puntiagudo que es muy ligeramente curvado hacia abajo. El plumaje es variable. Los machos adultos son amarillos abajo con estrías negras, una mancha anaranjada en la mejilla y un parche blanco en el ala. Las hembras inmaduras son más opacas, completamente grises con estrías indistintas debajo, usualmente con los lados del cuello sutilmente más pálidos y bordes verdosos a las plumas del ala. Se reproduce en el bosque boreal del extremo norte de 🇺🇸 y 🇨🇦. Pasa el invierno en el Caribe y Centroamérica. Incluso durante la migración, muestra una fuerte preferencia por los árboles de abeto.
