(He's Livestreaming on TikTok at 8PM PST or 10PM CST 😉 every Thursday) After leaving the Guess Who, Cummings embarked on his solo career; his self-titled album reached the top 10 on the Canadian albums chart. The single "Stand Tall" was an international hit and sold more than 1 million copies in the US. In 1977 he was presented with a Juno Award as best male vocalist. The song, "Stand Tall", also spent 21 weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached No.10! It reached No.5 on the US Cash Box Top 100, and spent 4 weeks at No.4 in Canada. The song was an even bigger Adult Contemporary hit, reaching No.2 in the US and spending 1 week at No.1 in Canada. At the time, Hall was already an in demand session player, playing on Motown Records as well as with legends like Bill Withers and Stevie Wonder. Brown's playing is lovely, fluid work, in the same realm as O'Donel Levy's or Phil Upchurch's, with a heavy blues base. Big Foot Country Girl - his last release for almost 30 years - is wonderful stuff, and worth checking out.
