Restoring a complex coffered ceiling was quite the endeavor! We kicked off by meticulously removing old caulking, reinforcing loose moldings, and adding fresh layers of caulk, followed by bodywork, sanding, priming, and finally painting ceilings, moldings, and walls. The real challenge? Juggling speed and cleanliness while working in a busy kitchen where a family resides. We understand how disruptive construction projects can be, so we strive to make the process as smooth and pleasant as possible! This project was specially challenging for us! Ms Julie and Mr Jason had just bought their house in Cape Cod, Ms Julie is a perfectionist and she wanted everything looking nothing but perfect!! (She made sure to repeat that several times 😂) The house had several painting fails, all the rooms had adhesion issues and the paint was literally falling apart. We had to do a total sanding work and then a huge body work. After that, we sprayed a fresh coat of primer and then we sanded everything again using 400 grit. We had to remove all the old and cracking caulking work and apply fresh caulking in the entire project. After that we sprayed two coats of Advance (respecting the drying time between coats). At the end the job came out way better than we all expected!!! After a few months, we managed to purchase our first large van, a stunning Nissan NV 2500 HD that we bought at @hilineautosales We sold the Subaru and kept working, serving one family at a time with love and dedication. Today, our company boasts 3 vans, with a team of 6 passionate local craftsmen, for a total of 18 individuals who are invaluable to us and dedicated to furthering the incredible blessing that is Mainsail. We are humbled when we look back and realize that it wasn’t Vinicius and Rafaella who created Mainsail, it was all of you. This very community of Cape Cod where we chose to raise our family has been instrumental in building our company, and we live each day with a singular purpose; to serve the local families of Cape Cod. Initially named Local Pro Painting, a transformative moment came when completing a large project for my client, Karen White from Barnstable Village pulled me aside. “Vinny, your work is truly exceptional, your talent is above and beyond- you should consider a new company name and logo that accurately reflects the quality of your work and skill set!” And so, it began…. our quest for a new name, involving Rafaella, Ms. Karen White, and (our friend from Minneapolis) @jasonpaintsmpls Our aim was to create a logo linked to nautical elements, and coastal living - a homage to Cape Cod. Jason proposed ‘Mainsail’. We thought it was perfect, as the mainsail plays a crucial role in propelling a vessel forward - the largest sail on the main mast, responsible for most of the boat’s propulsion. After choosing our new name, it was fate that during our new branding process we were fortunate enough to be working in the home of Mr. John Eldert, a seasoned boat builder in Falmouth! His wealth of knowledge helped shape our company logo. Our first van, a red 2006 Subaru Forester with over 220,000 miles, bought for $1,700 from Facebook Marketplace, brims with hilarious memories. Once, heading to a job in Sandwich at Dawn Wilson’s place, I left the car running due to a dead battery, needing a jump start that morning. With a broken air conditioner and the driver’s window stuck halfway, in the summer, when Ms. Dawn greeted me at the door, she exclaimed, “You left your car running”. I replied, “It’s because of the air conditioner” to which she quipped, “But the window is open, wouldn’t you close it?” It was hilarious; we still laugh about it today. As MAINSAIL Inc celebrates its three-year anniversary this December, we would like to take a moment to share our story: Before we started Mainsail, I worked for a residential painting company specializing in luxury homes on Cape Cod and in the Boston area, learning from the most talented professionals in the region. I clocked in daily from 7 am to 5 pm and at night, worked as a caregiver for an elderly resident at Osterville’s Oyster Harbors Club, unknowingly cultivating what would become our second client, and paving the way for numerous projects ahead. Rafaella also came from a painting background, with substantial experience in residential painting. She’s always been an outstanding painter, highly skilled, but above all, a significant motivator and dream builder - an instrumental figure in the birth and growth of Mainsail. As our journey began during the pandemic in 2020, our first job was painting a garage and stairway for our neighbors, Danubia and Claudio. Following this, an incredible opportunity knocked - painting a massive kitchen with 104 doors and drawers, at the Oyster Harbors Club, mentioned previously. This project was what truly opened the gates for our company, and we were on our way! An amusing and unexpected twist: during our 4th job, painting a room for a client named Ms. Roseanne in Mashpee, it was just my luck that I ended up fracturing my left foot. We made the best of it. He was a novelist, and poet who was born in Brewster, MA in 1870 and wrote about a fictional Cape Cod in his stories. He is still well read today. Six films and a short were based on his work. Our Village was his seventh book. He continued to write up until 1943. “Be Still” 36x36. This was a repaint of a 6 year old painting. It used to have a yellow sky. I seem to have a hard time finding homes for yellow skies, not sure what that is about. With clouds lurking low on the horizon during the solar eclipse on June 10th, I used the (in camera)multiple exposure function to create this image. I used the Nikon D850 and the Nikon 500mm prime to capture this image. This was done ( in camera) not post processing. This is the RAW file.
