"Casper" The Redwoods was the first place I started to put more of an effort in to finding abstract scenes to photograph. Sedona is such a timeless classic! I had been following the weather and I knew that it had just recently rained a significant amount, so I waited for a couple of days for the rock to dry out a bit in order to get good dry reds in the scene and sent it up to try my hand at my take on a few icons and lesser known spots! NM SITE 29 (Part 3), UT. Some details from this spectacular site, consisting of mostly anthropomorphs and zoomorphs. There are at least four likely bow and arrow representations (Slides 1-4), dating these particular glyphs beginning at around 700 CE. In Slide 6, you can see the 60-foot line I followed in an earlier post as it passes through the body of what looks like a snake. Notice the diamond-shaped head on the right side of the zigzag. There’s also a rare thunderbird depiction below it. Many tribes have ancestral connections to Vermillion Cliffs including the Navajo, Hopi, and Kaibab Paiute. Evidence of human history dating back 12,000+ years can be found throughout the area. . The Western screech owl family in Irvine has been drawing crowds, and I finally joined the spectacle. Photographers gathered early, cameras at the ready, all for the owls‘ punctual 7:30 PM appearance. It felt like the audience at a concert, eagerly awaiting the star performer. Capturing these moments required a slow shutter speed of 1/3s and a high ISO, a challenging but exhilarating adjustment in my wildlife photography routine. The last time we led a workshop here was 2016. Today’s Lesson was the quicker one adapts to what the fish want instead of what you want, the more successful the day will be. Spring is for dryflies, but the creeks were running higher than average so it wasn’t to be. Hoppers are for summer, so a foam black ant and a gold ribbed hares ear nymph served as the Shenandoah version of the Hopper-Dropper. Let’s call it the Ant and Sunkel. I am finally getting around to going through all of my photos from this past fall (and getting to work on a few autumn wildlife photography vlogs for YouTube), and this is one of my favorites I’ve come across so far. This bull was staring down a smaller bull that was encroaching on his harem, and he was not happy about it.
