Sie geben Aufschluss über die Herkunft der Objekte und haben viele verschiedene Formen. Früher wurden die Abgussmarken oft eingeritzt oder es wurden Stempel in den noch feuchten Gips gedrückt. Heute werden sie meist in Metall angebracht. Sie weisen mit Aufschriften auf die verschiedenen Produktionswerkstätten hin. In unserer Sammlung gibt es unter anderem Abgussmarken aus Berlin, Paris und Kopenhagen. Diese Abgüsse wurden 1975, 1980, 1983 und 1987 erworben. Die Marken sind wichtig, da sie als Qualitätssiegel, Besitzanzeige und Herstellernachweis dienen. Auch der Nachahmungsschutz spielt eine Rolle. Heute kann man mithilfe der Marken die Geschichte des Abgusses nachvollziehen und zudem den damaligen Rekonstruktionsstand der Objekte zurückverfolgen.
