Visited Ed Gein yesterday with @mitland It's been 19 years since the last visit (the very last pic is me all those years ago). His resting spot is in between his mom and brother. No headstone. There is always a hole in It's place. It was a fun day. Some things were different. See ya in another 20! ๐Ÿชฆ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #wisconsincemeteries #plainfield #plainfieldcemetery #edgein #serialkiller #killer #family #cemeterywandering #cemeteryfinds #cemeteryscapes #cemetery #cemeterylife #cemeterynation #cemeteryshots #cemeteryphotography #cemeterylovers #headstone #grave

Margaret Mitchell was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1900. She spent her childhood in east Downtown Atlanta in a borough called Jackson Hill. She learned most of what she knew about the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era from her grandmothers. Her childhood home in Jackson Hill was destroyed by the Great Atlanta Fire of 1917. While in college, she held little confidence in her abilities and did not excel in any academic subject. She was a reporter for the Atlanta Journal newspaper from 1922 to 1926. After she left the newspaper, she began writing a Civil War era romance novel and in 1936, Gone With The Wind was published. She won the National Book Award for Fiction for Most Distinguished Novel of 1936 and the Pulitzer Prize in 1937. The movie adaptation starring Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh premiered in Atlanta in 1939 and won ten Academy Awards. On August 11, 1949, she was hit by a drunken off-duty taxi driver while she was crossing Peachtree Street. She and her husband, John Marsh, were on their way to see The Canterbury Tale. She passed away five days later at Grady Hospital due to the injuries she sustained. She is buried at Oakland Cemetery and when John passed away a few years later in 1952, he was buried next to her. Their lot has roses planted there as they were her favorite flower. #capturingthespiritofoakland #oaklandcemeteryatl #oaklandcemetery #georgia #georgiacemeteries #georgiahistory #historicalwomen #gonewiththewind #margaretmitchell #headstone #gravestone #cemetery #cemeterywalks #cemeteryfinds #cemeteryphotography #newspaper

Beneath the firm and solid ground he rules over those who are bound. Although, it is not he who decides who lives or dies, forever to him we are tied. When visiting his home be mindful and be kind. A Monumental Notebook Man George L. Pease (1835-1895) Section 138 Lot 27762 George L. Pease was a partner in Boorum & Pease, notebook manufacturers, located in the Dumbo and Vinegar Hill sections of Brooklyn. From his obituary in the New York Times, February 26, 1895: โ€œGeorge L. Pease, formerly Vice President of the Shoe and Leather National Bank, died yesterday morning at his home, 325 Clinton Avenue, Brooklyn. He was stricken with apoplexy at 11 oโ€™clock Sunday morning. Mr. Pease had been ill all winter, and for two weeks had been confined to his bed. His illness is attributed to worry over the $354,000 defalcation [fraud] of Samuel C. Seely and Frederick Baker. When the defalcation was discovered, Mr. Pease did all in his power for the bank and its depositors, and overexerting himself, affected his health. He was re-elected Vice President at the annual meeting on Jan. 8, but resigned his position on Feb. 15, and at once took to his bed, where he remained until his death. โ€œMr. Pease owned a large interest in the Boorum & Pease Company, which manufactures blank books, and left a large estate. He was born in Painesville, Ohio, in June 1835. With his father he moved to Detroit, Mich., when he was nine years old, and there and at Lodi, Mich., he obtained his education. He afterward taught school and engaged in civil engineering. He was admitted to his fatherโ€™s business, and later bought out his fatherโ€™s interest in the Detroit Paper Company, He came to New York in November 1868, and associated himself with William B. Boorum, under the firm name of Boorum & Pease, and did a blankbook and stationery business. The company became a stock corporation in 1890, with Mr. Pease as its Presidentโ€ฆโ€ Boorum & Pease kept facilities in Brooklyn from 1888 to 1984, including their first factory at the corner of Front and Bridge streets (184 Front Street), and a building two blocks further east on Front Street at 84 Hudson Avenue. The building on Hudson Avenue still exists today, boasting the companyโ€™s name on its faรงade. Around 1980, the company relocated to Elizabeth, New Jersey, and in 1985 was acquired by Esselte, a Swedish office product company that operates globally.

gauche | adjective | : lacking social experience or grace: not tactful: crudely made or done. . Although it doesnโ€™t mean anything sinister, gauche is one of several words (including sinister) with ties to old suspicions and negative associations relating to the left side and use of the left hand. A Monumental Prodigy Annie Blanche Calvert Bennett (1873-1893) Section 98 Lot 17420 Annie Bennett was a gifted young Brooklyn woman who unfortunately passed before she could reach her full potential. From her obituary in the New York Times, September 22, 1893: โ€œDEATH OF A BRIGHT YOUNG WOMAN โ€œMiss Annie Blanche Calvert Bennet Gave Promise of a Brilliant Career. โ€œThe funeral of Miss Annie Blanche Calvert Bennet, oldest daughter of Sidney A. Bennett, who died Tuesday, will be held at 2:30 oโ€™clock this afternoon from the residence of her relative, Henry M. Calvert, 138 Hancock Street, Brooklyn, which she made her home. โ€œMiss Bennett was a remarkable young woman in many ways, and many friends mourn her early death. She was but twenty years old. She had a rare talent for art and music, and in the few years she had devoted to those studies had displayed an ability which gave promise of future distinction. โ€œParticularly good was her memory, and many times she gave evidence of its quickness and retentiveness. She was an omnivorous reader, and her chief delight was to entertain, as she did in a charming way, young children with pretty tales selected from her reading. โ€œFor art Miss Bennett had a passion, and when sickness prevented active study, she painted as she lay on a lounge in her room, the canvas suspended from a swivel in the ceiling. โ€œMiss Bennett was born in Brooklyn Feb. 11, 1873. Her father, who is a business man of means, is now abroad.โ€ Miss Bennettโ€™s monument features her likeness, possibly sculpted from a post-mortem mask which was a common practice at the time, as well as a musical instrument and artistโ€™s utensils.

Welcome back to #Flashbackphotfriday! We would like you to meet our residents from the Samborer on Block 29, Reference 7. t the outset of the First World War, Sambor was taken over by the Russian army for one year. The Russians did not do anything against the local Jews. They acted otherwise in the small towns, and many of their residents fled to Sambor. For instance, in the adjoining town of Leuitebsk, forty-five Jews accused of assisting the Austrian army were tortured and sent to Siberia; the rest of the town's Jews fled to Sambor. As a result of the war and the large number of refugees in Sambor, there were more orphans. In 1915, after the Austrians reconquered Sambor, two orphanages were built, one for boys and the other for girls, with 108 children in both. In 1918, a nucleus of Hashomer Hatzair was established. At the beginning of 1918, a modern Talmud Torah was founded, with four classes for children aged six to fourteen, and in the middle of the year, a day Hebrew school with 500 students. After the issue of the Balfour Declaration, on 2 November 1917, a "Society for the Settlement of Eretz-Israel" was organized, with 400 members. The members applied to Jewish land tenants in the vicinity of Sambor to train them in agricultural work, and not a few undertook to train ten to fifteen persons. At the time of Austria's capitulation in November 1918 and the establishment of the Western Ukrainian Republic, in whose framework Sambor was included, and up to May 1919, a Jewish national committee of only Zionists functioned. #mounthebronlegacyproject #mounthebroncemetery #flushing #queens #cemetery #cemeteries #education #genaology #jewishgenaology #mounthebronresearch #jewish #heritage #jewishhistory #americanhistory #ancestors #history #Jewishheritage #cemeterywanderings #cemeteryexploreres #cemeteriesofinstagram #cemeteryfinds #landsmanshafts #porcelianphotos

Mehitable Goodwin This woman and her family were swept up in the conflict between Berwick settlers and Native Americans when the latter were allies of the French in the 1600s. Mehitable was born and raised near the Salmon Falls sawmill of her father, Captain Roger Plaisted. He and two of her brothers were killed in an Indian ambush in 1675.Fifteen years later, then married to Thomas Goodwin, she was part of a group taken captive in the Salmon Falls Raid of 1690 and marched north at an exhausting pace to keep ahead of pursuing English militia. Those who could not keep up were quickly killed, including her infant son. Arriving in Montreal, survivors were assigned work as servants in French households. After five years of captivity, Mehitable Goodwin returned home, was reunited with Thomas and rejoined the Congregational Church. They raised five children in their home near this cemetery.
