Everybody Wants to Rule the World. I don’t have enough adjectives to describe how I feel this morning. About how the administration is treating pro Palestinian protesters in universities. About how the congress is treating university presidents. About how the president is supporting Israel. My list of causes has become limitless though I feel I have exhausted my emotions. France not allowing women to cover up especially on the beach and its anti hijab stance. Iran not allowing women to uncover themselves especially not allowing hair to show and its hijab policy. Afghanistan and its prohibition of women in spaces occupied now exclusively by men … parks and recreation and education. America and its policing of the female body and her reproductive organs. While expressing horror at the African custom of female genital mutilation. India and its pro hindutava stance. Israel and its anti Muslim stance. Everybody wants to rule the world. By muzzling whomsoever speaks up. The farmers protest. The save ladakh protest. The climate change protest. The divestment protest. Well at least commencement ceremonies and celebrations can go on unhindered by encampments and unhindered by empathy. What an incredible entitlement that is. Climate activists are holding a “sit-in” protest in the Ministry for the Environment’s lobby to demand an “End to Fossil Fuel” until 2030. The students have tied themselves to the building with metal tubes. Outside, dozens are blocking the entrance to the Ministry. The group says it has a plan to ensure a fair energy transition, in the week in which the UN warned of the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% over the next two years.

On Sunday, April 14, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk announced that around 12 to 24 Ladakhis would embark on a second Pashmina March or padyatra from Leh in Ladakh to the Changthang - high altitude pasturelands on April 17. The aim: to highlight the loss of pasturelands to big central projects as well as Chinese incursions along the Indo-China border. The call for a second march came after the Union government had imposed prohibitory orders including the imposition of Section 144 for two days that prevented Wangchuk, local leaders and citizens from conducting the first Pashmina March on April 7. Now, the second Pashmina padyatra also stands cancelled. On the night of April 16, Wangchuk said in a social media post that he and local leaders have cancelled the April 17 padyatra because the Union government has threatened to impose prohibitory orders under Section 144 for two months if they undertook the march. A two-month long restriction would gravely impact tourism in Ladakh, affecting people and their livelihoods which is not the intent of their protest, said Wangchuk. This "overreaction" by the Union government to just around 12 Ladakhis undertaking a peaceful padyatra to the Changthang to show the ground situation to Indians just shows how much the government has to conceal, Wangchuk added. Ladakh's ongoing climate protest Wangchuk and local leaders have been spearheading a climate protest in Leh from March 4. Along with Wangchuk and other leaders, hundreds of citizens also gather daily at the protest site and take part in hunger strikes. Az LNG, azaz cseppfolyósított földgáz olyan földgáz, amelyet a nyomásmentes tárolás vagy szállítás megkönnyítése és biztonsága érdekében folyékony halmazállapotúvá hűtöttek le. Miután az LNG-t szobahőmérsékleten újra gázosítják, ugyanúgy használják fel, mint bármely más földgázt. Az LNG nem zöld! Bármennyire is szeretnék alacsony kibocsátású üzemanyagként beállítani. Jelentős mennyiségű metánt bocsát ki - egy olyan káros üvegházhatású gázt, amely 80-szor erősebben tartja meg a hőt a légkörben, mint a szén-dioxid. Az LNG-termelés és -fogyasztás helyi és globális szinten is aránytalanul nagy hatással van a színesbőrű és alacsony jövedelmű közösségekre, ami egyértelműen állandósítja a környezeti igazságtalanságokat. Az LNG nem fogja megoldani az energetikai kihívásainkat. Súlyosbítani fogja azokat. Az orosz-ukrán háború kezdete óta 26 új terminál létrehozását jelentették be az EU-ban, pedig ennyi földgázra nincs is szükségünk. Ráadásul legalább fél évtized, amíg ezek megépülnek, közben haladunk a klímapokol felé vezető úton. A földgázra irányuló „aranyláz” alapjaiban ássa alá a klímacélokat. Új gázinfrastruktúrába fektetni Európában hamis megoldás. A Climate Action Tracker szerint, ha a 1,5 °C-os klímacélt tartani akarjuk, akkor 2045-re teljesen le kell mondanunk a gázról. Heute Dienstag verkündete die Grosse Kammer des Europäischen Gerichtshofs für Menschenrechte (EGMR) ihr Urteil über die Klage der Schweizer Klimaseniorinnen und vier weiteren Klägern. Der EGMR gab der Beschwerde statt und verurteilte die Schweiz wegen Verletzung des Rechts auf Achtung des Privat- und Familienlebens (Artikel 8 der Europäischen Menschenrechtskonvention). The protest on Saturday was the first time I encountered mounted police at a climate protest. I could write a long post about how protesting is a human right and how according to Dutch and European law people should be allowed to protest near a relevant site (in this case the A12 near Parliament). But Amnesty International and XR Legal do a much better job explaining that than me. I will just say police on horseback can be a pretty intimidating force. There is a reason fighters on horseback were the biggest scare on battlefields for millennia. The administration of Ladakh's Union Territory has enforced CrPC section 144 in Leh, responding to a planned march towards the China border scheduled for April 7. Despite the ongoing protests in Ladakh in 2024, the Indian government's indifference and the mainstream media's silence continue to overshadow the voices of those fighting for their rights. It's time to amplify their struggle and demand the attention and justice they deserve. Even local BJP leaders are backing the demands. On March 6, hundreds of people assembled in Leh after the latest round of talks with the interior ministry yielded no results. Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk launched a 21-day fast unto death to demand a devolution of power and constitutional protections to fight against what he said is an onslaught of outside influence that threatens the loss of their tribal identity. They are demanding statehood for Ladakh, a tribal status under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which allows the formation of autonomous administrative divisions with some legislative, judicial and administrative autonomy within a state. They make laws on important things like land, forests, water and mining – crucial for a region in which 97 percent of the population is tribal. The extension of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution to Ladakh, its residents said, would safeguard them from demographic changes and resource exploitation by outsiders. The agitation in Ladakh UT intensified on Thursday after the Leh Apex Body and climate activist, Sonam Wangchuk announced a march to the border on April 7. Climate activist Wangchuk has called the decision to march to the border a “Gandhian way of protest” to safeguard the interests of the fragile environment and the people of the region. The Leh Apex Body is agitating for grant of statehood to Ladakh and the inclusion of the region in the 6th Schedule of the Constitution for the protection of the environment. The protesters have decided to continue the ongoing hunger strike which the Leh Apex Body said will be followed by a chain of hunger strikes by women, youth, religious leaders and elders. The April 7 protest march is proposed to be taken to Changthang which borders with China. “This would be like Gandhi ji’s Dandi March”, the leaders said. Climate activist, Sonam Wangchow has alleged that the Changthang grazers, famous for producing Pashmina wool, are being forced to sell their animals because over 20,000 acres of grazing land was taken by industrialists to set up their plants. “We do not want solar energy at the cost of our people’s livelihood and dislocation. They are taking away our land because there are no safeguards”, Wangchuk alleged. He accused the BJP of backtracking from its promises to the people of Ladakh. “We were shocked when the Union Home Ministry straightway rejected our demands on March 4. We are seeking our rights and fulfilment of the promises. Parliamentary polls have been announced and the BJP is again making various guarantees to the people, but who is going to buy these promises this time”, he added.
