Me and my dad, snapped on my wedding day, Crackington Haven cliff tops, July 2006 💚He would have been 74 today! Our relationship wasn’t an easy one, but he really showed up for me here and I love how proud he looks 🥰 He is a key reason that I got to realise some dreams; living life in Cornwall, stewarding our beautiful piece of land and working with flowers. Maybe I’ll share more on this raw, beautiful and unconventional ‘why’ & ‘how’ - (it’s a long one!) another time.. Back to my wedding day! The dress was £10 from a vintage shop in Wellington & the perfect fit! Circa 1950’s, cotton lace - just a small adjustment needed to the neckline that I wasn’t so keen on… but now, I don’t think I would have changed it..It had a small train and a loop at the bottom for me to sweep it up and stride barefoot across the cliff top for our photos💚 My bridal bouquet was a mix of all the whites, likely imported - before I knew any better and before British grown really took off. Interestingly, I can’t recall the variety of flowers. What I do remember are the myrtle and hedgerow honeysuckle buttonholes for our guests 💛 and the sweetpea-filled jam jars that lined the aisle. The heady scent of a sweetpea still transports me right back to these moments - every time! We chose to keep it small - 24 close family and friends joined us. Our little boy who was 2 at the time was ring bearer 😍 We all stayed in Port Isaac, where I holidayed as a child, had an amazing meal at The Old School House (another sensory experience stored to memory!) followed by a lively party Ukrainian-style (husband’s heritage). Everyone went swimming in the sea the next day with hangovers! 😂 There are so many different ways to celebrate marriage and I love that British grown, seasonal flowers are now cherished and chosen not only as a better option for the environment but also for the extra special quality that they bring. Pulling the first of the tulips of 2024, which are coming in the house for me to admire! 🌷I last had tulips all the way back in spring 2022 as the 2023 crop was completely devastated by tulip fire. This year I’ve grown significantly less tulips as I didn’t want to risk loosing hundreds of £££ worth of flowers again. These beauties have been grown in crates so I could more easily isolate any potential disease. We don’t cut the tulips, we pull them, bulb and all, to give us super long stems. We can also cool store them on the bulb to keep them fresh until needed for floristry work. The bulbs are snipped off and composted once we start to work with the flowers.
A tale of two halves ✨️ A fairytale elopement for F & S at the enchanting @pengersickcastleweddings last week. The dining room flowers were all in rich tones of plum, whilst the ceremony room had a different scheme all of its own. (More to follow...) The groom was banned from a morning surf due to not wanting to tempt fate of a facial injury, but I know they made a holiday of coming down, so I'm sure they made up for it afterwards exploring our beautiful beaches.
