Beltane blessings! Today is Beltane or May Day and is a beautiful time to celebrate the sun, fertility and the beauty of spring. Hawthorn blossom is strongly associated with Beltane and it’s beautiful to see the hedgerows starting to bloom. The third picture here is a magical single hawthorn tree @doddingtonhall . She is a beauty and it’s magical to be under here at any time but particularly today. She’s just starting to flower - a gradual breaking of blossom, and as the breath of spring grows softer she will soon follow . Però quando scopro dei posti simili - creati dall’uomo - così pieni di magia e bellezza, allora sono contenta. Sono contenta perché l’umanità sa fare qualcosa di bello e a me piace scoprirlo. Consiglio di sedersi ad uno di questi tavolini incantati nella stagione della rinascita, in una Primavera che può anche non essere quella ufficiale. Fa sentire ancora più elevati, sognanti, fiduciosi. E ovviamente la compagnia deve essere quella giusta, per condividere il bello con qualcuno che sappia apprezzarlo. Ho adorato sostare in questo mondo di unicorni e rose, in un nuvoloso pomeriggio milanese così importante per me. E non importa se fuori il cielo è grigio, qui si trova sempre il sole e una certa allegria nell’aria, dettata dallo stupore che si incontra ad ogni angolo. Men and women dashed this way and that, their take away hot beverages firmly grasped in one hand, the other held the map to literary joy, otherwise known as the @sorrentowritersfestival program. There is no denying the power of words, the written word more specifically. From the whimsical world of children’s stories, to the transformative novels that raise questions. There was something for everyone at this years festival. Societal pressures and class. The role that fiction plays in Australian history. Important messages in children’s books. Stephanie Alexander’s hilarious brutal honesty and the collective rumbling of the crowd’s stomachs as @jaclyncrupi , @juliaostro , @belindajefferyfood and Karen Inge tempted us with their verbal dinner party menu descriptions. I’m still salivating over that chestnut, chickpea and maltagliati situation, Jaclyn! One of the final questions that was asked of the panel, “who would you choose to have at your table?” dead or alive. Famous. Unknown. had me pondering, who would I choose? At home, On Sunday afternoon amongst the glistening autumn sunlight, tea was sipped, flaky pastry crumbs landed upon laps, and the conversation flowed like an endless pot of honey. I thought then, this is who I would choose, right in this moment. I could happily have sat there for hours on end had it not been for the blanket of crisp chilled air descending upon us and the fact that I had two hungry, smaller tummies who would be needing dinner sooner rather then later. It really was such a joy-filled afternoon so I thought I’d share the recipe to one of the sweets we enjoyed. Sticky gingerbread & quince loaf A very minor tweak to a CWA recipe. 1 1/2 cups plain flour 1/2 cup self raising flour 1 tsp bicarb soda 2 tsp ground ginger 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground cloves 1/4 tsp ground coriander 1 cup caster sugar 2 eggs 1 cup milk 125g unsalted butter 1 cup golden syrup Pinch salt 220g poached quince Sift flours, soda, spices and salt. Add sugar. Gently melt butter and golden syrup over low heat. Remove from heat and Whisk in eggs and milk. Fold wet ingredients into flour mixture, followed by diced poached quince. 🌸 Ogni giornata è una piccola vita, ogni risveglio una piccola nascita, ogni nuova mattina è una piccola giovinezza. ~ Arthur Schopenhauer 🌸 In questi giorni sento l’esigenza di sdraiarmi e immergermi con la mente nella natura. Mi abbandono a meditazioni fiorite, nelle quali mi trovo in foreste di querce e larici, mi accoccolo vicino ai loro tronchi e mi lascio guarire. Che cosa di preciso non saprei, ma il mio corpo lo richiede. E così lascio che sia. Intanto la campagna è sempre più verde, qualcuno ha cominciato a preparare i nidi e i canti sui rami non cessano mai, se non a tarda sera. Bevo anche più tisane, passeggio a piedi nudi e lo trovo rigenerante, faccio lunghe dormite. Il tempo sta cambiando ancora, dico tra me e me. Sul corpo lo sento subito e quindi rallento ancora un po’, giusto quel che basta per farlo abituare. A volte mi sembra di non capire cosa intenda dirmi, e così lo lascio parlare perché tanto non potrei fare altrimenti. Poi mi sveglio un bel mattino e ogni cosa è tornata al suo posto. Chissà quale magia si è compiuta. Ne resto ogni volta affascinata. Un po’ come quando guardo lassù e colgo con lo sguardo dei rami in fiore sotto un cielo che più azzurro non si può. È una magia che si compie. Non si può far altro che amarla.

The end of a productive weekend in the garden and although it was a little chilly, we had no rain which was a bonus! 🪻 Che noia la fretta, è noiosa e dispettosa. Il tempo corre, ma io rallento. ~ Mariella Loru 🪻 L’infuso dei miei primi pomeriggi primaverili è stato questo: rosa e violetta. Un bouquet fiorito che mi ha parlato di ogni singolo albero in fiore là fuori, mentre sedevo sul terrazzo a percepire i primi caldi raggi di sole. In Primavera bevo solo tè fioriti perché mi fanno sentire nel mio giardino anche quando fuori piove. Prendere il tè in Primavera è così diverso dal farlo in autunno o in inverno. Innanzitutto mi piace concedermelo - se possibile - all’aperto. L’esperienza diviene più allegra e colorata. Poi posso sentire il profumo trasportato dal vento di qualche fiore di cui mi diverto a indovinare la provenienza. Qualche biscottino accompagna il tutto. Tornando ad oggi: ho riportato gli agrumi sul balcone perché le temperature dovrebbero alzarsi gradualmente. Confido nell’arrivo di una Primavera più tiepida, di modo che le rose e le peonie del mio giardino possano trionfare di bellezza come ogni anno. Aprile, sei quasi giunto al termine. Devo dire che me ne hai combinate delle belle e ci hai fatto compiere delle danze inaspettate. Porto con me il profumo di certi istanti preziosi, alcuni dal sapore di tè, ma soprattutto pieni di fiori, amore e silenzi.

Mostly I love being a designer/maker and sole trader. I can rely on myself - work super hard when I need to and take it slower at times. 🎂 La felicità è qualcosa di inaspettato, ti coglie impreparato e sta a te poi improvvisare. ~ Floriana Antonelli 🎂 Giusto per ricordare la dolcezza. E il fatto che quel giorno non ha piovuto ma c’era un bel sole che andava e veniva. Ho spento le candeline e ho pensato al tempo che passa. Poi un bacio me l’ha fatto scordare e il tempo si è disperso nella frescura della notte. Ed era un altro giorno. I fiori sono ancora in mezzo al tavolo, non ho sgonfiato ancora i palloncini e indosso un profumo a cui ora attribuisco certi istanti colorati. Il freddo - da quel che si dice - dovrebbe salutare la primavera e dare così il tempo alle mie peonie bianche di fiorire finalmente. Ieri pomeriggio ho assistito ad un bell’acquazzone, dal divano. Ho pensato al fatto che è quasi Maggio e le mie rose non sono ancora pronte, e forse neanche io, ma i giorni passano e il destino seguirà il suo corso. Su quel che non possiamo agire è inutile ragionarci troppo. Vorrei donare un sorriso, un pizzico di speranza e di coraggio ad una persona che è nel mio cuore, ma so che tutto questo arriverà a destinazione, in qualche modo. E, come sempre dico, ci penserà la vita. Io mi limito a disperdere un po’ di polvere fatata, quando sento il cuore traboccante di entusiasmo. La pioggia era così bella ieri pomeriggio, mentre il merlo cantava, che non ho desiderato finisse. Ho atteso il tuo ritorno, quello di un ricordo, e un bacio. Nient’altro.
