3.11.24 Your family’s always looking out for your best interests but were they ever there for you when you got home from getting jumped by a group of bullies at school? Was your mother ever there to comfort, protect, and help you when your cousins or uncle (or enter subject here) molested you at the last family event? What I’m getting at here is our family (blood family anyways) is represented as the highest value in many cultures, beliefs, and so on along with being presented as a trusted group whom you’re safe to be yourself with. People you can connect, love, and grow together with but the price is heavy for the false advertising that’s hiding the truth behind many of our realities. If they wanted to be there, they’d be there. If they wanted to help, they’d help. They had the power to help you in your particular situation but they decided to not only give you NO help, but beat you down along with your abusers (or whatever struggles were against you), representing the actual product of the false family love that’s served on a platter and we EAT THAT SHIT UP! Why? The possibilities are many, but it will be a cold day when you realize (and realize deeply) how much love was truly not there for you. This Charles Schulz quote pretty much carries me through any creative endeavor. "I can't remember if I was in the eighth or ninth grade, but I do know that in one of those art classes I learned the most important lesson of my life about creativity. Each year when one of the professional ice shows came to St. Paul, art students were given a chance to compete for free tickets by creating posters advertising the shows. I drew a very good Popeye those days and could letter quite well. The other kids in class mostly drew either a man or a woman skating. My poster showed Popeye skating and my poster lettering was, in my mind, much superior to all the others and, especially, that of Stanley, the young fellow who sat next to me and who had drawn, of all things, a polar bear coming out of an igloo. What in the world did that have to do with an ice show? "Your poster is really neat, Charles," the kids would say to me. "You're going to win for sure." I didn't, of course, for the judges saw something original in Stanley's polar bear compared to all the other dull skating figures and copied Popeyes. Decided to take a 5-day staycation to get life in order (today is day 5). We worked hard these last few days. 😅 It’s so nice to be able to clear clutter from your physical space and mind, and get organized, which makes room for more creative pursuits and adventures. Both Hubs and I feel a little guilty getting away or having fun in general, when there is so much to take care of, and get in order in our lives. Now that we are over the hump, I’m really looking forward to having more space in my life and a clearer mind to focus on my passions, and live every day in a balanced, purposeful way. This may involve saying No to certain things in life in order to say Yes to ourselves, our goals and our dreams. Boundaries are key in any life pursuit because our time on this planet is limited. ☕morning thoughts: how are you starting off your new year? What goals and affirmations do you have for yourself?☕ I'm starting off my morning bye eating lemon yogurt with rainbow sprinkles, pancakes with honey, and coffee. With a vow that 2022 will be a better year. A year where I stand up for myself and what's right. I stand up to be a good example for my daughter. To show her that we won't allow people in our life who can't see our value, can't see us for who we are as a person. People who treat us as less than. So, I will cut out toxic people you don't benefit me in any positive way, or give me any reason to keep them in. And in doing so, it'll lead to a healthier 2022 where my mind space is a lot more free to focus on my creative endeavors towards my Etsy shop and cross stitch patterns. You don't have to be everyone's cup of tea. And that's okay. If others don't like your cup of tea, you are not responsible for how they feel, or the actions they choose because of that. You will have people in your life who like your flavor, and will gladly drink from your cup as you drink from theirs. And that cup of tea will fill you with warmth, kindness, compassion, empathy, and truly awesome people who will do nothing but uplift and support you. So, my affirmations for this year? That I deserve kindness no matter my level of functioning. That I am not a bad mom for how I choose to raise my daughter, choices that don't align with how others would have done it. April📅 We beat the clock for this one.⏳ Once a year the cherry trees blossom in Kungsträdgården (Stockholm🇸🇪) and it creates this amazing spectacle that everyone wants to get a part of as everyone should. Only problem is that the trees are only in full blossom 🌸 for a very short while and whilst that happens the whole area absolutely gets flooded with people. Not wanting to get caught in the crowds @ninaaalerstedt and I got up before the crack at dawn and ventured out just to get these photo's. A nice big frame for this one before it goes up on our wall! I love using frames with museum glass for exhibitions, as they don't reflect the light so much and also protect the artwork underneath. This one is just in an affordable Ikea frame for now though, which is why it is super shiny. I'm so happy with how the piece turned out, and looking forward to creating many more big watercolours!

Who else does most of their painting on their kitchen table?? I have a little studio room, but I always just end up spreading out here! Also my cat is my constant companion when I'm painting, she just loves to watch, and occasionally sit on my artwork while it's drying!
Today I'm sharing a little painting that is pretty special to me. This piece was made in collaboration with my brother who lives in Western Australia. He has spent the best part of the last ten years working in remote parts a vast semi-desert that straddles Western and South Australia. It's a place I may never visit, but I have come to know it from the photos and stories he sends me. It couldn't be more different from the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest where I have settled. This area's name is Oondiri, the waterless. European settlers called it the Nullarbor, no trees. These days my brother is only onsite occasionally, and flies in from his home in Perth. When he gets a moment, he wanders the bush with his camera, photographing the animals, plants, and landscapes of this wild place. In a time when we are both far from our home country, and from eachother, painting the landscapes he inhabits brings me closer to him.

I think the time is drawing nearer, to focus on mine and my husbands big dreams, meaning that nannying will have to take the backseat. I'm just finding that I'm having less and less time to make progress on our artistic projects and it's killing me! I don't know when this next step will take place but I'm aching for it. I'll probably still be a nanny casually I guess. It will definitely be a big deal to me because nannying has been such a huge portion of my life and I have treasured my time as a nanny but I'm coming to terms with the fact that it just doesn't play a part in my dream life. Who knows what will happen in the next year or so but as each day goes by, I've been feeling more and more content with the direction my life is heading. Making big changes and takings risks can be so scary but lately I've been finding that stepping out of my comfort zone has brought me so much happiness. Are you guys thinking about making a big change? What's stopping you??

Etsy Seller Suruchi of @palepinkstudio walks us through the steps to create our favourite flowers today - 🖌️Bring along a size 8 brush and stroke it loosely to create a wash of waterdown orange. 🎨Colour the stems in green & for fine lines, gently use the tip of the brush. 🌿Press the brush flat to create the leaves. 👩🎨Once the first layer of orange dries off, paint again with a more concentrated orange using less water. 🌼Loosely stroke again to give dimension to the marigolds.
