The radical days of four and five offers on a home in the first few days disappeared. In 2023, a total of 88 homes sold in Julian and Santa Ysabel, in contrast to the 134 sold in 2022; this represented 34% decrease. The 2023 median home sale price was $548,750 vs. $533,750 in 2022. The 2023 median home had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, 1,437 square feet, and sold for $385.80/square foot in 33 days on the market. For the past two years, home prices and mortgage rates have surged, severely limiting buyersโ purchasing power. In the first quarter of 2022, mortgage rates were in the 3% to 4% range. By January 2023, interest rates were in the 6.5% range and increased dramatically to 8% in October 2023. As an illustration, a mortgage payment on a $500,000 house in January 2022 would be $2,945, compared to $4,075 in October 2023โ a 32% increase in monthly payments. GREEN VALLEY FALLS. Took another road trip to GREEN VALLEY FALLS ๐ณ for a very short hike ๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธ and some fun in the sun โ๏ธ with these cuteys: Bailey, Jake + Erik. The water ๐ฆ was saur coldt AF but it was such a peaceful place ๐ for some tranquility ๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ and rest ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ. I definitely enjoy these times to just wind down, relax and get away ๐ from the busy city ๐. Where it all begins. The Milky Way rises up over Cuyamaca Peak in San Diegoโs backcountry. The Cuyamaca name is a Spanish corruption of the Kumeyaay ( the Kumeyaay is a tribe of Indigenous peoples of the Americas who live at the northern border of Baja California in Mexico and the southern border of California in the United States.) phrase โโEkwiiyemakโ, which means, according to Margaret Langdonโs translation, โBehind the cloudsโ.It has also been translated as โthe place where it rainsโ, a reference to the regionโs higher average precipitation than San Diego Countyโs low coastal areas. The San Diego River and Sweetwater River both have their headwaters in these mountains, which flow over 50 miles to the ocean. If you look closely at the mountain peak you will see snow, and on my way out to this mountain the sky was clear everywhere else but the peak which was surrounded by clouds from the heat of the day as it evaporated the recent snow fall, but as the day ended the clouds disappeared and I had a clear view of the night sky. I started the night off shooting the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex as it rose up over the peak with my 50mm lens which really made the subject the mountain peak and the cloud complex, as the night whore on and more of the Milky Way rose into view I switched over to my 24mm lens giving me a much wider view of the Milky Way and making the mountain a more secondary part of the scene. The 24mm f/1.4 is one of my favorite โMilky Way Lensโ. I tried to tap down the light pollution spilling in from the right side of the photo but its rather hard to control, in fact I would say the light pollution helps light up the foreground some what. Yesterday on my way home from Yuma AZ. I thought Iโd head to Julian for an Apple Pie to bring home. Well a I was driving into Julian, I had to slow down because a Wild Turkey was crossing the road. A few more miles up the road, I never thought Iโd see what I had never seen up in Julian after a ton of visits to San Diego Countyโs little hidden Gem. There were about 30-40 White Tailed deer. . Almost coming to the end of my post vacation report. After the sea once again the mountains. Last Friday, the day before departure, four of us went on a last long hike. Destination was Cuyamaca Peak at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Elevation 6,515 ft / 1'986 m We started our hike at Paso Picacho camping site 4,920 ft / 1'500 m The hike was defined a moderate mountain hike and being in good shape didn't hurt. The paths were partially very steep, rocky, and even within a creek. We also encountered patches of snow. Gorgeous and demanding. Also because one had to stay focused where to put the feet. Says one that falls over even on normal sidewalks. It took us three hours (incl a break) to get to the top and we all felt it in our bodies. Exhausted but oh so happy. For me there are not much things that feel better than being atop a mountain. Of course we had to take pictures of proof we made it. Hubs and I took excellent advantage of the rocks that were lying around. It was the perfect last day activity with my brother and one nephew that could free up time for us. Thank you so so much! 16ish miles around #cuyamaca this morning with @peachpiration ๐โโ๏ธ. While I had moments of struggle today (could feel yesterday's 10 miles) on some of the climbs and trying to get around/through mud and water on the trail - overall it was a great running day. So grateful for no rain! @san_diego_100 was having a training run today and we didn't need the full 20 miles on the agenda as we're both tapering for Leona Divide 50/50 next weekend. We decided to park at the finish and run the first 12 miles of the SD 100 course with a little extra added. One of our additions was the little extra to #stonewallpeak - it was a perfect day for it. We left behind the 30C heat of Borrego Springs on our way to San Diego when we were met by a full blown winter storm only one hour away! ๐ What?!? Snow in southern California in spring? Yup! The temperature was 0C and the snow was coming down hard and heavy. There was a bit of a weather-related cognitive dissonance going on - we had to stop the car to put on our sweaters and jackets, we ditched our sandals and brought out the hikers again ๐ We stopped in cute little Julian on the way to the coast. It was FREEZING! ๐ Julian is a classic "wild west" town located in the Cuyamaca mountains. There was a gold rush here in the 1880s but nowadays the town is famous for its apple orchards and especially its epic apple pie! The pie made here is the most famous in the US and apparently Julian's nickname is "as American as apple pie". We headed to one of several pie bakeries and the pastry was indeed very tasty - full of fresh fruit, sauce, cinnamon, crumble, ice cream, and whipped cream. Diabetes on a plate. Finally had a great week throwing. Had some great throws Monday, all over the place Wednesday and found it again today. Been feeling like each throw Iโd do one or two things right but not them all, and I finally felt like I put all the pieces together I was trying to hit and it culminated in a great throw that I knew was good before it left my hand.
