How our kids feel after they spend time with their "friends" is a great way to tell if those relationships are healthy or unhealthy. If they get up from sitting with a group of girls in the cafeteria, for instance, feeling as though they're the next topic of (negative) conversation, then they likely are. If they're being intentionally left out, being put down (even jokingly), or constantly feeling as though they have to act a certain way to fit in, it's time for a change. The impact these types of relationships have on our kids is profound. They can affect their self-esteem and make them question everything about themselves. It can trigger them to try way too hard to be liked or fit in and even change how they dress and act which slowly erodes who they are and who they're meant to be. If this is happening in your teen's life, encourage them to look for the signs of an unhealthy relationship and BREAK FREE. Encourage them to stand strong, create distance between themselves and anyone who makes them feel flawed, and focus instead on being the BEST they can be. The more they work on themselves, the more confident they'll become, the happier they'll be with who they see in the mirror, and the less likely they'll be to tolerate anyone in their life who makes them question themselves because they'll feel worthy. I know this might be easier said than done with some teens because they (most) have an underlying desire to fit in. But fitting in should never be at the expense of becoming someone they're not. But having fruits every day will definitely get you on the road to a life filled with lots of energy!🍉🍎🍓🍇
