🎶 Dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower 🎶 Okay… I’m gonna be real with yall. I am a clean freak! Like seeing my house with toys on the floor and dishes in the sink and dust on the toilets…. It’s enough to send me over the edge. I’ve learned recently that a clean house is one thing in my life right now that I can control. It’s almost immediate. I can control the fact that the dishes are done or not. I can’t control if my 2 month old poops all over the couch during a diaper change. I can control how clean the bathroom is, I can’t control how many meltdowns my 1 yr old is going to have. Right now it’s all about what is helping me mentally. A family member told me today, “ I wanna be like you when I grow up and do my makeup everyday even though I have kids. “ granted we both have kids right now 😂 but doing my makeup is what makes me feel alive and okay. Yet again it’s another area I can control. I can’t control how fat I feel and look right now but I can control how my face looks everyday. Screen Time- No judgment here! Whether you do or don’t with your toddlers. We absolutely do in our house but feel we provide a really good balance. I will say, I have a lot of amazing memories throughout my childhood and the magic of some movies. This time of year, I’m especially loving showing Ellawyn some of the Christmas movies Eric and I watched as kids. I think providing some screen time also encourages the imagination. Now, does playing with toys do that better? Of course, but I think it’s ok to also look at screen time as a tool. Developmental for children, survival for parents 😂 We’ve also been able to start new family routines. On the weekends, we will make a bed on the floor, have some popcorn and watch a movie. Some of my favorite snuggle times ♥️ No advice or judgment found here, just putting it out there in case another mama needed it- you’re doing great! Our world is tough right now and it’s important for us to cheer each other on. We need to remind each other of our wins. Tonight I sat down to eat and my 14 month old immediately started throwing her food screaming momma. She was done and she wanted out. I ignored her grabbed my fork and she started throwing food again. I grabbed all the food rudely told her no more she lost her chance to finish eating dinner. I sat back down picked up my fork again and she started screaming. My fight or flight took off, I grabbed her so quickly and marched up the stairs to give her bath while fuming. Not fuming because I was hungry but she was inconveniencing me. I’m sitting there watching her play with bath toys and I started to feel guilty about how I acted towards her. I sat here and thought to myself… did she truly inconvenience me or did the situation inconvenience me? Truly it was the situation. Do I think she tried to upset me and think, “ moms hungry I should totally freak out now and demand her attention! “ No she absolutely did not. Do you think there’s times when you inconvenience God? Um, yes. Does he still come to us with loving arms willing to hold us at any moment? Yes, He does. Motherhood is hard! At the same time our babies need love and affection no matter the time of day or night. They’re learning to grow not only physically and mentally but emotionally from us. If I’m needing extra affection/attention because maybe I’m tired or in pain or just feeling insecure and I go to someone and they get irritated with me just for having emotions. Guaranteed I’m not going to show emotions to them again lol Why would I expect my child to have zero emotions that may slightly be at a time that’s an inconvenience to me? Guaranteed when I know I have days where I may have emotions that inconvenience others. Moral to this whole post! You cannot expect more from your children than you expect of yourself. Can you regulate every emotion you have at the drop of a dime? No. If you say yes you need to think again. Society want our children to be these perfect humans but we’re not perfect adults. Make it make sense. Forgive your children in their moments that fluster you in the same way you’d want someone to forgive you. Love your kids through all their emotions just like they love you through yours

You ever have one of those days where nothing seems to go as you planned That’s the day we are having over here today! Here’s how our morning began… All my big kid wanted to do this morning was to “go play in water with a bunch of kids.” In this heat, I decided that meant going to a splash pad. So, I packed everyone in the car and we went to a nearby park with a splash pad. There were exactly two kids in the water and one was leaving😒 On top of that, just 10 minutes into playing a group of workers notified us that they would have to turn the water off to fix something else🤦🏽♀️ Without water 100+ degrees is super uncomfortable so we left. Fortunately, Elson said he still had fun, but I was super bummed for him. I’ll spare you the details on how the rest of our morning went… it was more of the same! Hoping for a smoother evening😅 Already letting go of any “plans” I had for the next couple of hours so we can just focus on enjoying time with each other! Do you sometimes talk super fast to your child when you are in a rush? It may look like this...You're trying to get out the door to go to the grocery store. You wanted to leave 15 minutes ago but you just had to clean that same spot that you’ve cleaned a million times already this morning... Why are things always so sticky?! In your attempts to help speed the process along you quickly start shouting directions out at your toddler. “We’re running so late, we need to get your shoes on because we are going to the store to buy….BLAH, BLAH, BLAH”⠀ ⠀ Your toddler just kinda looks at you with a blank stare which makes you feel even more anxious to get out the door! ⠀ ⠀ 🛑 Mama, we get you! We’ve been you! We need you to do us a favor and take a deep breath, smile, slow down and SIMPLIFY YOUR LANGUAGE! ⠀ ⠀ 🙌When you talk to your baby or toddler too quickly and use too many words they may not pick up as much language! Some days are just one big rush, so can this be tricky? YES! But whenever possible try and slow down and simplify your language when you are talking to your little one because they will learn more language when you do. ⠀ ⠀ Here’s what it might look like…⠀ ⠀ ❌Instead of saying (fast):⠀ “We need to get our shoes on because we are going to the store to buy….”⠀ ⠀ ✅ Try saying:⠀ “Put your shoes on. Shoes on! Let’s go to the store.”⠀ ⠀ When it comes to language development, sometimes less is more. So today try and be mindful about the rate at which you speak to your baby and the complexity of the words you use! Slow down and keep it simple!⠀ ⠀ Are you guilty of sometimes saying too much or talking too fast to your little one? (We are too sometimes!)

What things in your life are threatening to steal your peace ? Oohhh oohhh oohhh I’ll go first ! Yesterday, was a day . It started out great with a consult for some fabulous new hair , then we surprised Neenee at the Art Gallery . The kids explored works of art from locals and we had beautiful conversations. Ate a fantastic lunch and then set off for our next adventure . The plan was to go visit the sea turtle sanctuary in Juno Beach, we’d never been there before and it was only 10 min down the road from where we were . But, as we got in the van to drive off Colton leaned over and shared quietly that his ankle really really hurt . Mamas red flags went up, he said it started yesterday but he didn’t want to ruin our plans for the day so he didn’t say anything . Then he proceeded to share how it had hurt so badly walking around the gallery that he was only walking on “one toe” on that foot !
This happiness was faked. There I said it. The photos are stunning but if I recall correctly, I had never been more stressed in my life than this week. I had Camilo on Sept 1, Delia started school Sept 6, and we all came down with our first sickness Sept 8. Yeah, the dates may be engrained in my head. I wanted so badly to do outdoor family photos, and they kept being delayed due to sickness after sickness. It took us a few weeks, there were meltdowns at the shoot, a ton of snot on the kids faces, and I forgot to brush my older son’s hair. So yeah, the photos are beautiful and maybe one day, I will look back and remember just how they were at this age - and not how sick we were this year. But now, 21 sicknesses deep, it’s all it reminds me of. Not everyday is city lights & amazing vacations. Most days are the mundane - up for breakfast, making lunches for school, asking if they got their homework done or studied for that test, driving to and from practices, and trying to figure out how to get it all done and feel like I served them well in our short time together before we say goodnight. But those daily small tasks are my biggest job, and I’m proud to be their mama.
