Finally, a clear diagnosis after almost 4 years. I am still in shock and processing it all. I have been told I have more than one diagnosis. I have been very open about my health journey in hopes of helping others and myself simultaneously. So, here it is. The first part of my diagnosis is Retinitis Pigmentosa (where I can go blind) and profound hearing loss (where I can go deaf). These problems stem from a genetic disease called Usher Syndrome (they are finalizing in the next couple of months). Secondly, on Friday, I went back to the UBC Neurological Movement Clinic. They diagnosed me with Functional Neurological Disorder (this causes my brain to misfire with my muscles), which explains all my mobility problems, migraines, paralysis, tremors, etc. What’s next for me? I’m not sure yet. I will find out soon. Yes, I’m scared; I’m not going to lie. But the good news is I can get treatment, meds, support and keep living. So, I have to remain focused on that. No, it won’t be easy. Every day will be a struggle, but everyone in this world is struggling in some way. So, I will continue to work, educate myself, be a self-advocate, work with doctors & specialists, and most of all, live life to its fullest potential with my family and friends who have been there for me every step of the way. It was absolutely perfect outside today so we decided to take advantage of it and do a super hard workout together outside. It felt great breathing the warm, fresh air while we got, well, wrecked 💪😵 We wound up just laying on the ground for like 10 minutes afterward, doing some light stretching and just letting all the stress melt away. I can't wait for more days like today. Nothing is quite as relaxing as laying outside as a gentle breeze washing over you after a hard workout ☺

FUN FACT: I prefer flip-flops + bikinis over sneakers and leggings 👙🩴. Most of you probably assume I live for my workouts, eat on point daily, and never splurge. That’s just not true! I have been working on ME for three years. I am building my life around becoming more healthy and fit, but I’m just a normal girl who also enjoys the fun things in life. I LOVE working out and eating well. I also love traveling, camping, hiking, kayaking, eating out, sharing drinks 🍻 and laughs with friends. ▫️I track my food to keep myself accountable to my goals, but I’m not strict and I enjoy life. ▫️I dont binge all day Sunday and then starve myself on Monday. ▫️I workout 5 ish days a week, but there are weeks other things in life take priority, and that’s ok. My fitness and nutrition lifestyle work for me. There are no start or end dates, nor giving up because I wasn’t “perfect.” My habits constantly evolve as part of a life I enjoy and will stick to for the long term.
