Many of us can attest that we often find ourselves trusting God but sometimes (or always) having a back up plan ‘just incase’ He is ‘too busy’ to attend to our case. We convince ourselves that God needs our help because ‘faith without works is dead’. However, it takes discernment to know when God is calling us to act, or when He is requiring us to be still as He moves on our behalf. Such discernment comes from establishing a relationship with The Holy Spirit who will guide us in all truth. This is the main verse we have been studying in youth group for the past few weeks. I think it's a great verse to describe the current times we live in. The world we live in nowadays, society tells us that we are our own gods and that everyone should do what makes them happy, but that usually just gets us in more trouble. We have all these people that tell us it's okay to do certain things we know are wrong and points us in directions we shouldn't go but we still follow because we take their word as fact. That's why we should always check what those people say against the Word of God. Just like you have to hammer out the impurity of a metal to make it stronger, we too have to weed out those that only speak harm to us. Do you ever feel like you are just waiting around for God to do his thing? 👇 A while back, I was in a period of frustration and impatience with God... He had called me to a new stage in life AND given a promise of what was to come. The frustrating thing with HIS will is that he rarely gives a timetable. Anyways, I remember praying, "God... I just feel like I'm waiting around. Nothing is moving forward, and I've just put everything on hold because there is so much UNKNOWN..." Through a friend (*cough* Fred *cough*), God asked me this question: "Is waiting for my timing putting your life on hold?" As if to say... is my will and timing not going to be perfect and line up perfectly with where you and your family are at the proper time? It was quite the humbling question. I realized that while I could say, "I surrender to your will," all I wanted... he was begging the question, "BUT DO YOU REALLY?" Im not posting this for any kind of pity at all but this is What I look and feel like after 21 years straight of a good run of bad luck. After a while you wonder if it's just you , that your the reason why all these bad things keep happening. But I refuse to take fault. Yes I've done my share of bad things in younger years but then who hasn't? I didn't give my first wife of 23 years an ok to cheat and then abandon my children and myself. I didn't ask my girlfriend after her to go cheat at a teachers conference in Austin. Then there's my children, two lost in less than 30 months. One in March 2012 and another in October 2014. And, In between I've spent the last 16 years on someone that was not worth the effort i put into our relationship and trying to make things work. So many lies and so many wasted years I. Thought I could help her with counseling, church etc...I was so wrong. She abandoned me, left me with no home, no car. Sick, unable to work, waiting on disability which I'm finally going to appeal court for. Something that should've happened since April 23! My nephew just died last month 1/2 ago,I didn't get to say goodbye because of no means to get to Minneapolis. My son's 12th year since killed is this Friday the 15th.Sooooooooo many things, so much pain and sorrow and only God knows why. Then my health, quadruple bypass, pancreatitus, prostate cancer, gall stones copd and then some. But I'll keep on, holding my head up as best as possible because I'm not crazy my brother's... I'm just a little unwell. Good things are coming because I know God has said "he's had enough". There's just no quit in me, never had been. I'm not built that way. Just a little tid bit of information for those who may or may not already know. I'm blessed to have such great friends and I'm very blessed because I've got God! His right hand sustains me and his peace and grace help me on days that I do want to quit. Rant over. Gnite me brother's. Today's Gospel: Mark 3:31-35 Often, we hear the phrase “Brothers and Sisters in Christ”. This applies to the given gospel since we are all connected to each other through God who created us in His image and through Jesus who saved us from eternal damnation. This gives us the power to reach out to everybody regardless of religious beliefs. This is also the message of the Gospel; we are all children of God, in good times and in bad. We are all connected to one another though there may be times our connections are lost behind the lies of prejudice, discrimination, and indifference. We should not let those hindrances stop us from reaching out to those who are in need of our help. His mother and his brothers: perhaps the way the gospel begins catches your attention. Maria is his mother. But when the gospel refers to his brothers, he refers us to his cousins… that is, very close blood relations. It does not say Mary and her children, but “…Mary and your brothers…”. “They called to Him”; today we must also call Jesus because it is very easy to distance ourselves from Him. Go back to Jesus. Stay as close as possible; because when you least realize it, you have already moved away from Him. Familiarity: how nice is to know that the Church is a family and that we are called to fulfill God’s will. It is knowing that God takes the best of you and gives it to others. Together we can build a better world through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is in full union with the Father and the Holy Spirit. But we alone cannot do it without God. Today’s Gospel contains an incident that many people in Jesus’ day would have found rather puzzling. Jesus’ mother and his “brethren” (male relatives who, we know from other sources, were not biological children of Mary) show up to see him. They can’t easily do so because Jesus is inside a crowded house, and so they are forced to stand outside and send him a message. At this point the expected thing would be for Jesus to drop everything and either go see them or arrange for them to be brought to him. That would be what would be expected of him as a dutiful son on good terms with his family. (Read more below)

RENEWAL OF THE MIND 🕊️In recent years I became sober curious and began to question the role alcohol was playing in my life; thus beginning my sober minded journey. Nothing “happened”, but rather an internal nudge which I realized was the voice of God. I was curious as to why alcohol held such value in my life many Friday and/or Saturday nights. I started questioning why I felt it was “needed” to have a “good time” at parties, on vacations, holidays, and weekends; why I believed it was “needed” to de-stress after a long week; and why I thought it could help me “connect more” with others. This month I celebrate one year of sober minded living. I am so grateful to @SoberSis that came across my FB feed and solidified this journey for me in November 2022. I learned so much about myself; the role alcohol plays in society; the affects of alcohol on our mind, body and spirit 😬😯😔; our relationships; and most importantly my relationship with God. My mind has been “rewired” and renewed as alcohol holds zero value in my life anymore. Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Is it crowded, like everyone rushing into a big concert? 🚶♀️🚶♂️👥 If so, it might not be the right one. You see, there are many paths that seem like they lead to the good life we all want. But here's the catch: the devil keeps making new paths that look just like the real deal. 😈🏗️ These fake paths are wide, comfy, popular, and they make us fit in, but they actually lead to trouble. 🛣️💥 In our world today, these paths could be like chasing money, quick thrills, or just going along with what everyone else is doing. They might seem easy, but they don't take us closer to God. 🌍💔 So, how can we tell if we're on the right path that Jesus talks about? 🤔 We need to look inside our hearts and actions. Are we living the way Jesus taught, with love, kindness, and humility? God called me out today. As I was journaling and praying this morning, he told me He couldn’t bless my disobedience. He’s revealed His will for me to write my second book. I agreed to an amount of time each day to write, uninterrupted. I haven’t carved out the time like I said I would. He called me out. His words and conviction swept over me, and I was ashamed that He was right. I hadn’t been doing what I said I would do faithfully. I was ashamed, and it bothered my spirit all day. It’s scary and mentally trying to finally take the steps to put together years of journaling and writing into a new book to help others through their darkest valleys. Vulnerability is difficult. The book He wants me to write is the book I needed but couldn’t find. It’s a book to help the “me” that was desperately searching for guidance and help. Afraid and lonely. It was years of fully relying on God. He was my best friend, and the only reason I made it through. He is real to me! He wants me to share what I learned, to help others. Would you pray with me to have clarity of thought and be able to express my journey in a way that helps someone and brings honor and glory to God? I know Satan will be fighting along the way.
