Throwback to when I was shooting clients and I would take selfies to prove that age and weight don’t matter. I’m feeling nostalgic and missing all of the amazing women I was blessed to work with. Listening to the stories they would tell about how they saw themselves before the shoot and after. Women encouraging and uplifting women is an awesome thing and I truly think all women are beautiful. I’ve disliked this woman. I’ve not loved her at full capacity. I’ve fed her lies & told her she wasn’t good enough and have allowed others to tell her she wasn't good enough. I’ve allowed her to be broken. I've allowed others to treat her disrespectfully. I’ve allowed her to run through brick walls & battle for others who won’t even stand for her. I couldn’t stop individuals from abandoning her, yet I’ve seen her get up and stand to be a light to the world & love others despite all. I have stood paralyzed by fear while she fought battles in her mind, heart and soul. This woman has screwed up many times, as a partner, a daughter, a sister, an Aunt or as a friend, because she hasn’t always said or done the "right things". She has a smart mouth, and she has her secrets. She has scars...because she has a history. Some people love this woman, some like her, and some people don't care for her at all. She has done good in her life. She has made some bad decisions and choices in her life. She is random and sometimes silly. She will not pretend to be someone she is not. She is who she is. Every mistake, failure, trial, disappointment, success, joy, and achievement has made her the woman she is today. You can love her or not; but if she loves you, she will do it with her whole heart, and she will make no apologies for the way she is. This Woman is a WARRIOR. The biggest fight in life is against time. Don’t let someone put barriers up on your fitness because of your age. I was deadlfiting the other week and had a guy younger than me tell me he’s recently backed down on the weights he uses because he turned 30 recently. No ryhme or reason outside of age. At first I was a bit surprised, but I know this is a message often pushed in fitness. Some idea that things need to drastically change or be tuned down due to age. I would argue the opposite. Outside of training experience, age shouldn’t play a factor in your training. My thought is how do I keep gain ground in this fight against time in regards to strength and muscle mass. There’s no secret factor that needs to be changed in your 30’s, 40’s,50’s and beyond. What works stays true through it all. Yes your lifting will change as you gain more experience, see what works, and how you respond to different training set ups. This is a by product of good programming overtime vs hitting a specific age landmark. It's World Earth Day 2024. This horse chestnut tree started life in 1932 when the little boy who lived in my house planted a chestnut in the corner of his parents'garden. When my Patents bought the house in 1956 she was still in our garden, over the decades she's grown and I share her with two neighbours. She's been a constant in my life since I was nearly three years old, with amazing conkers each year (I never lost at school). Squirrels live somewhere in her, birds sit and sing from her branches and she'll probably be here long after I'm gone. I want to be known as someone who is disciplined when it comes to goal setting. If I say I’m going to do something…. I commit and will make it happen. Never settling and always pushing towards a goal. I completed the Norwegian in Nov 2019 … 18 miles in the male standard of 4 hours 25 min. Yesterday- with maybe two months of training… completed the Norwegian event at 4 hours 27 min. Difference was second attempt I only carried water weight and was a pacer. Pretty proud to still be able to do this and keep up a pretty good pace. What I walk away with…. Knowing you CAN push your body through some tough events, train smart, and never give up. I am thankful I am stubborn like my mom!! Thankful to have a best friend that wanted to do this event with me! Thank you Nivia!!! Thankful to the NCOA Soldiers that pushed their limits and competed!
