Six months ago tonight I was heading home from a night of mini sessions, when I drove over some debris, almost immediately blew a tire and lost control of the car, and ran off the highway through guardrail and down a hill at 70mph. I somehow walked away with only a broken rib, and it just could have been so much worse. Honestly just typing that makes my heart race and I still think about it all fairly often. I’m so thankful that God protected me and decided He wasn’t done with me yet 🫶🏻

When you book an in-home newborn session with me I always allot for at least two hours! You might be thinking, TWO HOURS?! Geeze, Lindsey, that’s a long time for you to be in my space/keeping my older kids well behaved! Well, I do this to account for the unexpected, and to go off of baby’s timing- because it’s their world now, we’re just living in it, amirite?? This precious little girl was loving her milk, so we took lots of feeding breaks to make sure we were meeting her needs, but still making sure we caught some beautiful moments. Two hours lets your toddlers take a break, get a snack, and come back happy to play, snuggle, and love on their new baby! This is just one benefit of an in-home newborn session, there are so many more! I don’t know about you, but for me the marketing/self promotion part of having a small business is so difficult. Imposter syndrome is real, y’all. I over think every little detail of every post, every mini, every session. I’m a people pleaser by nature, so I never want to feel like I’m making someone else uncomfortable- when I worked in retail I was the girl who hated asking if you wanted to open a credit card- like that two second question would ruin your day or something. So this is a learning curve for me! Anyone feel this way? What are some ways you helped work past this feeling? I was told the other day to view your marketing as the answer to someone’s question, but man it’s hard to get in that mindset! This session was a great prep for my motherhood minis this weekend! From one mother to another. When I am given the privilege to document mothers & their children I always think of myself. Not as a photographer but as a mom. When I’m old & gray and my memory is foggy what do I hope images of my children will remind me of? The answer is simple. I want to remember them exactly the way they were. My children & your children have something in common. They are uniquely designed by a God who makes no mistakes therefore if your child is shy and timid let them be that. If your child is energetic and bubbly let them be that. If your child is curious and likes to quietly explore let them be that. If your child has a wild imagination and loves to tell stories let them be that. if your child is in need of help & assistance don’t be ashamed of that. Did you know that you can still get newborn photos with a little bit older baby? This sweet boy was 6 almost 7 weeks for our session, and we still were able to savor all those sweet newborn details! Older babies tend to just be more awake, but with awake babies you get those beautiful big eyes and maybe even some sweet smiles! If you’ve been hesitating on booking a newborn session because baby is a smidge older, don’t! It’s never too late!
One question I get asked almost daily...lifestyle or studio? and honestly it's hard for me to choose! Here are a few pros for both options when you're weighing the best choice for your own newborn session. Lifestyle (in home) pros: ◽️You're being documented in your own element. You may be more natural and little ones may be more comfortable in their own familiar environment. ◽️No loading up the car, outfits, all the things! You won't forget anything, it's all home with you! ◽️Your home has a more special meaning to you than any new space so we love documenting memories made there! ◽️If your home is beautiful (to you), then that is obviously a pro! Studio pros: ◽️Lighting, lighting, lighting. It's soaked in natural light, predictable, and we know it like the back of our hand. Light is the most important element for your photos. ◽️ Skin tones. With white walls and a neutral studio wardrobe to choose from, there won't be any crazy color casts bouncing around and we can guarantee those true to color beautiful skin tones that we are known for! ◽️Simplicity. While we do have lifestyle type settings (like a bed), they are more simple/minimal than a normal home environment. ◽️Availability. For a last minute booking we will have more openings or flexibility in the studio than we have for in home sessions just because we aren't driving to different locations. ◽️Last but not least, you can leave your house a total mess and you don't have to make your bed! Every family and every home is different! If you have questions about which type of session is right for you just send us a message and we can help you decide!

This year I decided I was really going to invest the time and energy into improving as a photographer, particularly when it comes to my newborn and family work. I’ve invested in mentoring, classes, and getting to shadow the amazing @haleykinziephotography! Can I be honest and tell you the number one thing that holds me back from posting here more often?! It’s straight up good old fashioned *overthinking* it. This is the very first newborn session I ever shot. My sweet niece, Finley, a little over two years ago! I flew to St. Louis to meet her and brought my camera just in case they wanted a few newborn shots- it turned into a full blown lifestyle newborn session. I loved every minute! I’ve learned so much more since then, but this is still one of my favorites. I’m so glad this session sparked joy for me, and that I’m still getting invited to take photos of your precious new additions.
The simple but perfect dream client / family for me is the one that fully trusts me as their photographer and shows up ready to love on each other. That’s it! We had a few things stacked against us here with crazy (and chilly) wind, a fresh double ear infection for sweet Evie, and only 15 minutes to make some magic, but we did it - because of those two important factors. I promise if you show up with that mindset, you won’t be disappointed with the outcome. And you might even enjoy the process too! 🤩🫶🏻

I got to do so many fun extended families this fall! This was one of my smaller extended families- My largest was 34 people! I always suggest at least an hour for an extended family, there’s lots of moving parts and if you have younger kids they’ll definitely need breaks! This also gives me a chance to take some photos of each individual family unit!

This session was 20 minutes of just chasing this sweet girl around and it was so much fun! Sessions don’t always have to be super posed- we can just chase your toddler, have a great time, and capture some beautiful memories!

The next two rainy days = a logistical nightmare for a fall photographer 😅 Rescheduling 10 families during the busiest 3 weeks of the year is not for the faint of heart, but I always loved a good puzzle and it looks like I’ll be playing Tetris with my calendar until Thanksgiving 😂 I’d be lying though if I said I wasn’t a little thankful for the short break, after the week we’ve had. Thanks to all of you who have checked on me and sent prayers and well wishes. It means the world 🫶🏻

A full session means time for the little details like sandy toes, hand holding, ring around the Rosie, and soaking in the snuggles with your babies 🫶🏻 I always have the sweetest time with @lehull and her beautiful family 🤍
