As we near the end of April, I don’t want to miss out on acknowledging an important awareness that this month represents, C-Section Awareness Month. As a mom of two sweet children, who has experienced going into labor naturally, epidural wearing off, pushing for 5 hours, and feeling absolutely everything 😅 I developed a fever, my son began losing oxygen, so I was rushed into emergency surgery to birth my son via C-Section. I rarely talk about my birth story as I believe they are so sacred, no matter how you birthed your baby, but also because it was a traumatic experience for me - but oh so beautiful at the same time. My emergency C-Section saved my son’s life and it saved mine. When I was pregnant with my second child, my beautiful daughter, throughout my entire pregnancy my plan was to try to give birth via VBAC, but ultimately I chose to have a scheduled c-section at the last month of my pregnancy. It was the better decision for my baby and for me. I may not always fully agree with our medical system, but I am so incredibly thankful and appreciative for the amazing doctors, nurses, specialists, and the advanced medical technology that we have today to be able to receive the care that we need. As a C-Section mama, I still grieve not having the birth that I always wanted. But I am also so thankful that I was able to experience labor naturally and the entire pushing experience, with my baby’s head fully in my pelvis and right there, we could see his head from my opening 😅 (I may not have appreciated it in that moment because it was incredibly painful, but I appreciate it now). All that matters is that baby is born safely and that mom is also safe so she can immediately bond with her precious baby. Elke dag beseffen we meer en meer dat we geen tijd meer krijgen met je, dat we jou niet zullen zien opgroeien met je broertjes en zusjes, we nooit zullen weten hoe je zou zijn. Het gemis wordt intenser en zwaarder. I love this sweet boy with all my heart, and his sister too ♥️🩷💙 but right now he is pushing my buttons…pushing me to my limit. Today at church was yet again, another episode of this toddler wanting to run around in the gym during our first hour. Today was the day our Stake leaders were speaking to us. I felt myself tearing up a few times because I truly wanted to hear the messages that were being shared and prepared. A very wise man today shared something like this: “Let your little ones sing loudly, cry and even scream. It’s a blessing to have them here.” {correct me if I’m wrong my friends from church} That really hit home for me today, and I feel guilty for attempting to keep my son quiet. It’s been on my mind all day, and I am thankful that it was shared. I have to remind myself that big sister did the same thing when she was his age, wanting to run around, not sitting still for the entire meeting. I have been reminded that this phase does not last for long, and it’s a big blessing that he and his sister are here in our family. Sometimes I take them for granted, and forget that being a mom is a gift from our Heavenly Father. So today, I’ll allow myself to sit in the suck of a busy toddler, and tell myself that it’s better for him to be here, walking around and enjoying his innocent life. Because it truly is a blessing that he (and big sister) are around.
