On the day the Earth stood still in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, society changed as lifestyles gotten restricted by the lockdowns and phased restarts over the next few years. While reality sucked with pauses and cancellations, the struggles defined a new gimmick for the film industry to share and possibly connect with us somewhat in a way through our screens (once productions safely find a way to be artistically resilient). Some mimicked the outlook indirectly, without including those that actually prophesized such scenario, and few have taken place directly during the lockdowns. The narrative efficiency and limitation intrigues over the minimized possibility embraced once again. TV REVIEW: 8.4/10 “THE PAIRING OF CERA AND SCHUMER IS A+ HUMOR” We missed season one of Life and Beth, but luckily got to binge both seasons back to back as all episodes dropped at once. While you might expect the laughs and escapades from Trainwreck, Amy Schumer shows us a different, more intimate version of herself inspired by her own life. In other words, don’t take anything as factual, Amy herself says it’s about 50-50. We meet Beth, who’s a successful wine distributor, living with her long term boyfriend/coworker in NYC, which by the way, we’ll will never be able to look at Kevin Kane the same on SVU. When a sudden bombshell drops in Beth’s life, she’s forced to take a really hard look at where she’s been and who she wants to be. We go on this journey with Beth to become the person she wants to be by reliving some pretty intense and traumatic flashbacks from going up on Long Island. Визуально недорогой триллер-драма о мести. Фильм достаточно стандартный и сюжетно не предлагающий каких-то откровений. И всё же кое-какие плюсы у него имеются! В то время, как шаблонные боевики о мести показывают каких-то чрезвычайно брутальных и непобедимых героев, "Ритм-секция" проходит путь от опустившейся героини до неприкаянной мстительницы, но всегда уязвимой, не ожидающей того, с чем ей доведётся столкнуться. Сначала я предположил, что это очередной фильм с трясущимся вечно кадром в связи с его дешевизной либо по причине излюбленности режиссёром такого приёма, как у Гринграсса. А это в какой-то мере не может не напрягать. Но когда оцениваешь весь фильм в целом, то понимаешь, что так специфично выглядит фильм намеренно, будто вживляет зрителя в тело главной героини, для которой все перипетии отнюдь не привычное дело, а стрессовая ситуация, с которой она однако справляется, превозмогая себя, лишь бы достичь цели — отмщения за свою семью! Таким образом, все, казалось бы, несуразные ракурсы и не вполне кинематографичные кадры - в конечном итоге имеют смысл и своё предназначение. Хоть это объяснение и не всех устроит и не заставит полюбить картину. Детективная составляющая фильма не слишком убедительна. В большей степени складывается впечатление, что нашей героине везёт. Кто-то до этого момента сделал за неё всю расследовательскую работу, но вот стимула осуществить месть ни у кого не нашлось... Frances disfruta de su tiempo vocalizando poesía junto a su amiga y ex-novia Bobbi, cuando en su camino se cruza Melissa, una discreta pero famosa fanática, y Nick, el apuesto actor esposo de Melissa. Sus encuentros se vuelven más frecuentes, y la tensión entre Frances y Nick más evidente. Los vínculos que unen a todos son fuertes, ¿pero cuánto pueden durar realmente? Tuve dificultades con la cadencia de la nueva serie de Lenny Abrahamson. Después de "Normal People", y viniendo esta de la misma autora, creí estar ante algo bueno. La historia es una harto explorada con un par de vueltas en torno a los vínculos de este particular grupo de cuatro. El enfoque en Frances es uno muy profundizado pese a los pocos diálogos empleados. Sin embargo, pese a la maestría en el manejo de las intimidades humanas de Abrahamson (y el gran aporte de Leanne Welham), la narrativa se siente estirada. El tiempo se siente más lento cuando los errores de su protagonista se repiten y no se aprecia un verdadero crecimiento hasta los últimos dos capítulos). Se posterga demasiado el siente de tensión. Y uno pierde interés. A pesar de ello sigue siendo una digna serie sobre la contradicción en las relaciones. Hay un destello de rebeldía muy controlado en la tímida Frances de Alison Oliver, y sus interacciones con el reservado Nick de Joe Alwyn o la confrontativa Bobbi de Sasha Lane permite un acercamiento muy genuino hacia esta complejidad en el propio ser. La nublada fotografía en el centro de Dublín hace un buen hincapié en la soledad en su protagonista, mientras que la veraniega en el viaje a Croacia manifiesta su ensoñación, sus momentos ideales. No todo es color de rosa, y tanto el diseño de producción como la fotografía lo retratan bien. A piece I have been working on for a while now - everyone meet “ Cathy “ from Steinbeck’s “East of Eden” The scene from the book where she burns down her parents home with her parents in it and sets out on her own . The goal was to make her environment pulse almost in reaction to her anger - and I was trying to convey a sense of lost frustration in her eyes . Originally I had her hands grasping the match but that just felt wayyy too on the nose . Still not sure if the exaggerated hair blowing and the exaggerated fake tornado formed over the home with fire was the right choice but I kept it . I saw some buzz about the upcoming east of eden series adapted by Zoe Kazan with Florence Pugh playing Cathy Ames and was blown away as to how similar Florence looks to what I had envisioned myself ! Silent Night (2021) Genre : Drama Rating : 5/10 A family gets together for the holidays but something doesn’t feel right. Well, let’s be honest, I was really intrigued by the storyline and I was pretty excited to see it play out but I was very disappointed. With such a great, diverse cast, you’d expect an awesome movie, especially with such a great storyline to back it up! It just didn’t do anything for me, it was such a let down. It was slow and tedious to watch, plus, it was super predictable, like I literally predicted everything that would happen and I don’t know about you but I like my movies with a bit of mystery in the mix. Mark Scout, un hombre retraído y algo solitario, trabaja en Lumon Industries, una empresa cuyos empleados se han sometido a una intervención quirúrgica que separa los recuerdos de la vida personal y laboral. Es decir, en Lumon, Mark no tiene otros recuerdos que los que genera dentro de la empresa, y al salir al exterior, Mark no recuerda haber trabajado nunca allí, pese a que va por voluntad propia. Pero todo este procedimiento se pondrá en entredicho cuando un hombre misterioso, que dice conocer a Mark dentro de Lumon, siembra las dudas sobre este método llamado “Separación”🧠 Nos habla de lo difícil que puede ser encontrar el equilibrio entre el trabajo y la vida personal. MY BEST FRIEND’S EXORCISM (2022) ~ 6/10 •First off let me say that I have read the book and I am a fan of it. Next, let me say that this film is pretty faithful to the material. It is also quite different. As the movie plays drier and less spirited than the book. It’s like the film followed the recipe but seemed to skip some ingredients. I don’t know if this was on purpose or because of the budget. A nice attempt that never quite cuts to the heart. As while it does count as a horror film. It also feels more to stay in the safe realm of Pg-13 because it wants to appeal to a younger female audience. As it feels a bit disconnected from other audience members. The cast is fairly unknown for the most part which works. As it leaves everyone open to being a victim or being taken out and not safe because of their stardom. Through the film. Betrays them by making most of the characters so stereotypical or one-sided that again we never really get to know or feel anything for them except for the two leads. Even in some dramatic moments for the supporting characters it never reaches the level of emotion it could because you barely know them. It’s nice to see a film with a cast so diverse and Christopher Lowell as one of the lemon brothers is energetic and hilarious. Even though he is not in the film nearly enough. He is truly what helps keep the film afloat. As he is the only one here who seems to provide those qualities which the film heavily lacks most of the time. Making it come off as more workman-like and less caring. It might also be that until Christopher Lowell’s character shows up the movie has no sense of humor. It seems set at playing it straight. My Best Friend’s Exorcism - ★★ Directed by Damon Thomas 45/100 I wasn't sure what I was going to see and I think that somehow helped me not to have any kind of high expectations, but I certainly think this movie was too soft in almost all its aspects, even in the comedy, so the horror moments also suffer a lot, especially because the moments in which it seeks to use that resource fall quite short, even in its confrontation and final act in which the boring and unexciting exorcism of the title takes place. Cha Cha Real Smooth (2022) Genre : Comedy Rating : 8/10 Lost after graduating college, a young man befriends a woman and her autistic daughter. First off, we have to appreciate the talent that was showcased by Vanessa Burghardt, its about time an autistic person was cast to portray an autistic person in a movie and she did such a brilliant job. I actually really liked the movie, I went into it thinking that it was going to be a cheesy romcom but it really wasn’t. According to the movie, everyone has a number of soulmates that god tries to place in their paths so they can meet, but we can never control when we meet them. This subverts the idea of a soulmate. The movie contends that discovering your soul mate doesn't automatically result in being with them. Cooper Raiff completely controls the role of a befuddled 20-year-old Andrew, and Dakota Johnson's Domino is brought to life by her reactions, emotions, and eyes. Cooper and Vanessa Burghardt, who play Dakota Johnson's autistic daughter, Leslie Mann, who portrays a loving mother, Cooper's younger brother's first girlfriend, and even the grumpy but well-intentioned stepfather all have beautiful moments. They provide a stunning illustration of how dysfunctional families frequently have more sincere bonds than healthy ones. It was reassuring to watch a family that was allowed to be chaotic, have honest conversations, and not feel guilty for being scared of the futures they cannot fully control. However, the movie does showcase cheating and ive stated this many times before that its never okay, it is never okay to cheat in a relationship. Other than that, I loved the movie, it was super sweet. Ottima, a partire dagli sguardi e dalle posture, la capacità di suscitare disagio messa in scena da Olivia Colman. Poco convincente la performance di Dakota Johnson, quasi del tutto monotona e monoespressiva. A stemperare un poco il clima di sconforto generale un Ed Harris "acqua e sapone" che completa una visione cinematografica completamente lontana dagli stilemi del solito cinema Americano e che allontana l'attore dalla "solennità" di molti dei suoi personaggi passati. Energica, spontanea ed empatizzante, complementare al suo alter ego, è la Leda giovane, interpretata da Jessie Buckley. La visione proposta dalla regista risulta convincente: la durata non eccede e mantiene un ritmo costante nel succedersi delle situazioni e dei dialoghi, consentendo alla complessità delle tematiche di risultare accessibile (ci si augura) anche a un pubblico molto giovane.
