Si por un lado uno se siente cautivado por la estética, por el trabajo de fotografía y por la banda sonora pero por otra parte no conecta con ciertos arrebatos destinados a justificar caminos que se toman (a gusto personal, algunos rozan la ridiculez), ¿cómo puede terminar de definir su postura ante el film? 'Love Lies Bleeding' nos sumerge en una historia de amor entre dos mujeres que se conocen en el gimnasio en el que trabaja una de ellas (buena labor de Kristen Stewart) y luego gira hacia una trama criminal, en donde el siempre convincente y magnético Ed Harris saca su chapa de villano. Rose Glass (realizadora de 'Saint Maud', en 2019) pareciera de a ratos inspirarse en Nicolas Winding Refn en lo que concierne a la enrarecida atmósfera de la proyección, pero también intenta abarcar mucho cuando mete en la licuadora tantos ingredientes que a veces no se complementan del todo bien. I watched this last night and honestly had been curious about it since it's release, as i like A24's movies and i'd heard good things about this one. Honestly i really enjoyed it. I thought this was probably the most tame, in terms of the usual A24 craziness that goes on in films, though there is a moment near the end that made me go yep this is definitely an A24 movie!. It revolves around Lou (Stewart) and Jackie (O'Brian). Stewart works in the gym and sees Jackie walk in one night and is instantly attracted to her. They soon begin a romance and from there things get insane due to family drama and drug issues. I am a major fan of Drama's, and i liked that about this film, also there was more action elements than i was used to seeing in an A24 movie. But a staple of their movies is always the dramatic side and it's done really well here. I did wish however that they spent a little more time developing the relationship as it felt fast. But the dynamic between Lou and Jackie takes you on a rollercoaster where you don't know what to feel!. I liked storywise too how it showed one event can completely derail your life. As we think we know the story at the beginning but an event occurs and the story is completely shunted onto a different path. But it makes it unpredictable as you genuinely have no idea where it will go from that point!. As always with A24, the cinematography and soundtrack was brilliant. Honestly some of the shots with the accompanying soundtracks were a joy to watch and even as the credits roll you are vibing to the soundtrack!. Standouts - Katy O'Brian in particular blew me away. The way she managed to show vulnerability despite her intimidating build was really impressive. Bottom line, a good drama/thriller that takes you on this journey with these two characters, going places you won't expect. I had fun with it. Well worth the watch!. Watch in Cinema's or Buy/Rent. What a memorable first watch! After hearing so many great things about this film (and its remaster), I wanted to finally get around to putting it on. One of the more beautiful things in life is discovering movies with a big reputation for the first time ever, especially when they have been in your periphery for ages! I had no doubt James Cameron would deliver a spectacle and he did!

A sapphic and stylish version of Thelma and Louise with gorgeous cinematography and a great techno score. Kristen Stewart and Katy O'Brian were sublime in this, really great romance. A well made movie that's has an interesting blend of genres like romance, noir and revenge, its almost like a David Lynch film in a way. Rose Glass really improved from her previous film Saint Maud which I wasn't really a fan of, but this was such a refreshing film to watch. It does whoever take a while to fully get going with its story. Es ist soweit. Der Film erschien hier zu Lande nicht nur endlich auf BR sondern auch als UHD! James Camerons Unterwasser-Actionabenteuer aus dem Jahr 1989 war bereits damals mehr als ordentlich inszeniert. Angefangen von dem atmosphärischen Setting, dem Cast (Michael Bien, Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), den Effekten und vor allem dem modernen zeitlosen Look, der auch heute noch funktioniert. Die beklemmende Atmosphäre und der immer weiter steigende Druck merkt man auch als Zuschauer. The Abyss ist zwar kein Meisterwerk aber ein gelungener und immer noch sehr unterhaltsamer Unterwasser-Actionfilm mit coolem Style. Das 4K Bild ist, entgegen der Meinung vieler im Netz, richtig gut. Klar, das Filmkorn wurde digital etwas weggebügelt, dafür wirkt der Film frischer denn je - ähnlich wie die Titanic UHD, die auch erst kürzlich erschien. Oftmals musste ich mich beim Schauen dran erinnern, dass der Film bereits 1989 gedreht wurde…nicht erst kürzlich. Es lassen sich unzählige Details wie Schweißperlen, Hautunreinheiten oder Millionen von kleinsten Blubberblasen ausmachen. Alles nasse im UBoot strahlt dank HDR schön heraus und wirkt schön plastisch. Natürlich ist nicht alles Gold was glänzt: einige Effekte und auch Monitordarstellungen im Hintergrund sehen schon arg weich und deplatziert aus, störte aber nicht wirklich. Hautfarben kommen sehr natürlich daher. Auch der Schwarzwert ist schön satt ohne in dunklen Bereichen abzusaufen. Ganz ehrlich: ich habe nichts an dem Bild auszusetzen. Genau so muss der Film heutzutage auf einem OLED TV aussehen. Natürlich muss sich jeder selbst ein Bild davon machen - ich bin happy mit Camerons neuen und cleanen Ergebnis. #abyss #jamescameron #1988 #4k #movie #hdr #edharris
