Prayer has been a weakness for most of my Christian life. I’ve been decent about praying for others in need, but I didn’t really slow down to have a conversation with God. The daily refresh on the youversion Bible app has changed that. I get to dig into the verse of the day and have guided prayer time. The tranquil Gathering Space at the college is welcoming and new. I feel at home here despite not being a student or indigenous. The curved roundness wraps around me like a comforting hug, and the silence is delightful. There are students laughing in the canteen next door, but here is just me and the sound of the clock. We often become frantic about the passage of Time. There never seems to be enough. Deadlines loom, texts assault, bills surmount, and children age and grow like weeds after a summer storm. It is in liminal spaces such as this that all of that is spun out of the perimeter; flung like wash water in a rinse cycle. Here, we return to the Moment. When asked last night what have been the highlights of the year; my first thought was the first half of the year was hard. The second half has been about re-building, focusing less outwardly, and more inwardly, letting go of some ambitions, learning to enjoy more of who I am now. Yet I can feel a strong recoil back to old patterns, an insatiable desire to create & therefore numb from those feelings. There's a certain peacefulness that I'm feeling now, but with a lingering awareness or fear that I'll be slingshot back into a messier time of my mind. Looking back at photos from this year, I saw this - pure bliss, guys trip down to Cambrian, with not a worry in the world, except remaining warm. I feel blessed to be surrounded by the most loving people that make the transitions into your new self a supported one. I also got to share about a current highlight, that I might look back at as wildly significant, nevertheless beautifully blissful in the moment. Whilst I don't know what the next chapter of my mind looks like, it's sure as hell, good to look back and see that life could be hella worse. There's horrifying things happening in the world, and whilst my heart breaks for people & a world in turmoil, we must count our blessings, turn it into 'active hope' for a more beautiful world, that we must keep believing is possible for everyone. #eveningmusings Photo probably by @suggiesspace :P
