"Our lives are fashioned by our choices. First we make our choices. Then our choices make us." Anne Frank I always loved this quote from Anne Frank - young girl, wise beyond her years. I've made a lot of choices in the last year, some were on the ball, others turned into great lessons. No regrets. This week, I made the choice to take some "me time". I think sometimes we're so busy being busy that we forget to be in the moment... to remind ourselves that some days it's okay to take a break from making choices and just be present. It doesn't always have to be a big gesture like booking yourself into a spa, although there's nothing wrong with that :) It can just be a walk in fresh air, a cup of tea, moments of silence, just sitting with yourself. There’s so much about this that rings true. Having faith in ourselves. Harnessing the grit required to persevere. Knowing there is a depth of strength to pull from, even if mentally it doesn’t feel like it. But I question the ability to be your own solution in a silo. I used to be very independent. Truth is, I still am, but I’ve realised it’s an Achilles heel rather than a badge of honour and I’m forever trying to temper it. It stems from control, and boy do I love me some of that. It lets me side step trust, I get to pretend it’s a cheat code, when ultimately I’m only cheating myself. It’s taken a long time to understand the power received through others. How our interpersonal relationships, transient or constant, ultimately soften our edges and act as a mirror for all we get to disregard if we go it alone. How much strength is required to surrender into the willing presence of others, the level of trust required to bare our heart and acknowledge some truths we may want to avoid. Our interpersonal relationships, and what we cultivate within them, matter, because ultimately they are a reflection of us as individuals. Look around, take the temperature. Are you living in a silo?
How can I better recognize the value in my current situation? This prompts a shift in perspective, encouraging a more appreciative view of one’s present circumstances and the hidden gifts within them. Sometimes we need to reconsider how we are actually showing up in our own life. What we bring to the table is valuable and who we are is worthy of all the blessings so let us remind ourselves of this and tap into it so that we can make claim. Let us open our eyes to our own value which is not based on what we can do for others, it is not based on beauty or status... 01:55:16 - Half Marathon Finished. I express gratitude to all volunteers, marathon organizers, supporters, and fellow runners. Thank you from the heart. Notes. Overall Race I stayed strong for the first 16 kilometers but experienced left hamstring muscle cramps and slowed down for the next 3 miles. Towards the end, I picked up pace near the finishing line due adrenaline rush and cheering crowd. Left Hamstring is my old micro injury and required few hours to recover. It gets tight at times. Luckily, no serious injury. Why Did I Slow Down? I did not train longer distances for a while. Most of my runs were 5 k - 10 k range or High Intensity Interval Training Studio Red 'Easy', 'Medium', 'Hard' 9 min sessions. These helped to increase muscle growth and to practice bursts of speed. In the future, I will add longer distance runs. Yoga and barre are critical to increase flexibility and to lengthen muscles. High intensity interval training workouts are awesome. I am loyal to Vasa Studio Red and Balance & Yoga & Barre sessions. Keep training and try to stay positive. Ethics Note. Inspiration? Motivation? Human Values? Jealousy? Inspiration and motivation are nice. But it is not the main point. My main human traits are being thoughtful, positive, musical, and loyal friend. Please, do not ever be jealous. It creates toxic & shady vibes and ruins human relationships. Work at your pace and be thankful for what you have. I loath jealousy with all my heart. What might I discover if I accept the ‘offered cup’ in my life right now? Encourages exploring the potential benefits of embracing new opportunities or reconsidering something previously dismissed. The Four of Cups can also nudge us into finally accepting what has been provided to us, when we finally say yes and accept that this is the lot we have to work with now and how that can shift our association with it and our life tremendously. It is important for us to allow ourselves the chance to see where it takes us. “I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black” -Kurt Cobain When the people we love are in pain, we may find ourselves wishing we could take that pain for them. When we know certain types of pain, the kind we would not wish on anyone, if we have already felt it, perhaps it might feel like - I have felt it before, let me take it again, so they don’t have to know what it feels like. I used to think parents sheltered kids - as if this was a failure on the adults’ part. Not preparing kids. As I grow older, I see this sheltering as kindness. Just as some things cannot be unsaid, there are things that cannot be unfelt, and take a toll. To love is to want what is best for others, even above and beyond what is best for ourselves. But sometimes, trying to shoulder someone else’s pain - while probably not even possible - may actually work counter to what we would hope. To take away the shadow that is grief, for example, is to take away what casts that shadow - love. It is the age old question - would you rather have loved and lost, or never have loved at all? We cannot take the experience of that pain away without taking away what was meaningful. And might we also be taking away personal growth, wisdom, life lessons? Not to justify hardships, but these are absolutely byproducts. And so I think there are times when we must honour the tribulations on others’ paths. These things that write our stories, that build our characters, that may echo the best things we’ve encountered. Honour each other’s paths and agency in how things are held and how they affect us and how we choose to move forward. Be someone to lean on, offer support, be an example in how you hold your own trials & tribulations and share your pov & insight if asked. Also, honour others’ strength & wisdom & story, rather than focusing on the self. Lend a hand, but do not take on what is not yours to hold. Where am I feeling dissatisfied, and why? The Four of Cups often represents periods of discontent. This question helps to explore the roots of dissatisfaction, whether they’re due to real lacks or misaligned expectations. I think sometimes we chase things that are exciting which get us into trouble because we don’t actually take the lessons of the Four of Cups to heart. So this is definitely a time to ask where we are feeling dissatisfied and why? This is a time to explore why we feel this way instead of chasing something that isn’t ours. If only you could have seen what three gaunt, toothless, older men could do with my garage, or rather, it’s contents. This garage was best designed for a Model A Roadster, certainly not a car of todays standards. The garage has been the ‘holding-tank’ of well intention. All the treasures I might pass on to others. Goods I actually loved, maybe more so years back, but loved just the same. The last piece of Morocco in the form of a rug knotted by a Bedouin woman living in the Atlas Mountains with two children, a husband, chickens and a goat or two. I traveled with John to visit the family, we ate delicious chicken hot off the stove, we sat around a low table, and we ate using our hands. It was heaven! As was her rug until the house cleaners aggressive vacuum made quick work of it. The other old rugs from Morocco were long ago discovered by resident moths who grew tired of old cashmere sweaters. So those rugs were long gone. This was the last memory of a stunning afternoon in April years back. Gone are fragments of cement bird baths and remnants of wooden storm drains. Gone too is the wonderful table found in the alley by Byrd. It was, for a time, in the laundry room at 68 Comm Ave. Then moved to Park Street and it’s last incarnation was a display table at the store. It had those sturdy cabriole legs and in the end, I shamelessly painted it a superb blue. Three gaunt men, one empty truck, one sledge hammer later…it all rumbled up the road as land fill. It is stunning how treasured items, with history, can become broken down with such efficiency. How much landfill can one earth tolerate? We collect, we shop, we fall in love. And for years we treasure it all with its memories attached. While the shards of that rug maybe gone forever to my eye, the memory of that warm day in the Atlas Mountains, with a dear, much loved, friend, will always be treasured. And, no trio of gaunt men, with sledge hammer, can carry off that fine afternoon of memory. #musings

Your bruised heart is aching with a huge hole in it, and you are gasping to find the energy to wake up and begin the day. Everything seems the same yet nothing has remained the same. A plethora of emotions engulf you and you try to swallow it with a lump in your throat. They came to your life like a whirlwind and swept you across off your axis, and now all you are left with is your heart. Your naivé heart who you blame for being that way. You know you can't hold them back. And as much as you would try to hold on to them, the easier it shall become for them to drift apart. At times, or maybe always, you have to take a step back and let the universe play it's part. People come and go, like the waves of a sea. Someone tells you so. Yet perhaps one particular separation has left your heart hollow. You keep on wondering what if things had turned out to be different. What if there was some other way? Yet it's the universe's way that prevails. People walk away and you learn to live with that. You wake up the next morning and all you try to do is keep filling in that void. But if you rather try to live with that void, instead of trying to fill it up, perhaps it becomes easier to accept it. To accept the fact that sometimes no matter how much you try, some things are just not meant to me. And that's okay. It's a new day and a new beginning. Inner echoes i hear random letters, random words, sitting in some another world but except the class I'm now at. sometimes i ponder, why? why did I wake up today? do i even have a purpose? drifting through an existential crisis. And then I think why does she scream out, such harsh words, such complicated allegations when one is hurt both in and out? its just her nature- the nature she might have gotten after taking such strenuous classes, such dull and monotonous classes. at some point, she turned into how her classes are. maybe her only way to escapism is by yelling ruthless words maybe there is a kinder self, somewhere hidden as a small kid she once was. #poem #musings #quotes #writing

i rush to find comfort in the void. i run to find peace in a world of chaos, a universe far from bliss. it is a tiring cycle for there is no comfort whatsoever in giving all my energy in taking big strides towards a place filled with what ifs and uncertainty. where is this place that i'm looking for? i can't seem to find it. instead it found me. it drew near when i stopped running. when i rested and took a breath. it came close and before i knew it i was wrapped up in a blanket. — 04.29.24 : #musings
