✨Moments of Gratitude for last week. 🙏🏻✨ My posting has been off this trip bc I felt it was important to give myself a bit of space from the pressure of posting to enjoy my travels & all these special moments. I so enjoy these moments on Sunday to reflect on just a few of the things I’m grateful for in the last week. 🙏🏻🤍✨ 1. A fabulous day exploring all the beaches on the Western coast of Portugal with @dianewrightson @suz_km @vaniassoliveira & a HUGE amount of gratitude to @dianewrightson for driving! 🙏🏻🫶🏻 2. The most peaceful morning sunrise yoga and a HUGE thank you to @vaniassoliveira for organizing it. Yoga always makes me feel so much more centered and this was such an amazing way to start my Monday. 🤍 3. A beautiful hike, some good tunes & some time to reflect in Sagres. 4. Some time dedicated to Lagos for self care & some quiet mornings to explore before most of the city was awake. 5. Caught a beautiful sunset one night which I was super grateful for between all the meetings. 6. Peaceful mornings at the beaches in Lagos with no one else around & the beach to myself. 7. I absolutely loved being in Lagos for Liberdade, it honestly made me so happy to be able to witness and feel the joy in all the celebrations. 8. Despite the rain (and the bad photos through my soaked waterproof case 😂), an absolutely incredible morning kayaking through all the caves to Ponta da Piedade. 9. Some incredibly healthy, delicious, wholesome meals in Lagos (and grateful for LOTS of amazing coffee) 10. A stunning boat trip to see the incredible Benagil Caves. Here are some highlights from my recent travels to Sicily, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan! 🌍✨ I’m incredibly grateful that my educational leave has allowed me to travel to so many breathtaking places over the past few months. Amidst the countless wonderful experiences, there have also been moments of challenge - balancing study with travel, feelings of loneliness and exhaustion, difficulties finding vegetarian food, and saying goodbye to lovely people. All of this makes me appreciate coming home to family, dear friends and colleagues even more. However, these past months have – of course – also been full of joy and excitement. I have visited beautiful beaches and vibrant cities, climbed mountains and admired landmarks. There have also been these moments when I have faced my fears (hello, scooter rides and headstands!), and, most of all, there have been the remarkable people I have had the pleasure of meeting and sharing meals, conversations, and experiences with. Before finishing high school I solo traveled Ireland and Portugal, and also visited a bunch of other countries with my dear sister annieholleyrealtor . This is how I learned how to budget travel, but also learn how to be alone 🌚 I was married in Brazil for two years. My family is originally from Brazil so it was always my dream to go. Meeting my ex in Spain felt like it was fate. We had a beautiful life there but it didn’t work out. We got married so I could have a visa and we divorced shortly after separating. I have no regrets. My Jeep was my high school car, when I got back to the states I had no friends, nothing waiting for me and was completely directionless. Living in my car seemed like my only option, I fell in love with living on the road. Life in the Jeep to me was great until it started getting cold, life got depressing. Thankfully this was around the time I started working remotely and was able to buy my truck. We roughed it out in the backseat until I bought my first camper (destroyed in Mexico), then my second camper (didn’t fit my truck). CANGGU DAY 2 This day we made our way to our new accommodation and then used the hostel bathrooms (which were thankfully decent with massive mirrors) to glam ourselves up to visit the best beach club in the world🎉🪩👙⛱️ Even before coming to Bali heard so so much about this place and when I came two years prior did not end up coming here as just was super pricey! But I’m so glad we decided to spend well over our daily budget to spend the day and evening here🥰We booked bed loungers for the three of us and had 1 million to spend each, they provided towels and service was really lovely! I wasn’t feeling the best to start with so got on the water and then decided that I might not get better and started drinking anyway to take my mind off of it! DAY 1 IN CANGGU We went for an amazing brunch at Copenhagen which I would highly recommend! The menu is fun to fill out on paper and can choose from 3 or 5 dishes to make up your meal, of course we opted for the most as it was good value🥰☕️🍳 Then we took a walk around the streets and went in loads of shops for hours! Brought a crochet bag that was super cute and way too much jewellery that I didn’t need🛍️We finally made it to the beach and this was a black sand beach which was quite cool but obviously at the same time on the dirty side!!🖤we watched the kite/windsurfing which was so so cool, the guys a so talented! the last clip is from literally one of my worst days ever on the road 🫠 I woke up where I was camping and decided to drive to SLC to meet up with my friends, the gas station I had planned to get gas at was closed and the closest one was 30 miles further, I thought I could make it but I ended up breaking down on the highway 7 miles from the gas station. I decided to hitch hike, I stayed on the phone with my friend until a man in a truck took me and my pup to the gas station. I got a tank of fuel and he drove me back, but something was wrong with the container and it spilled gas all over us, so we had to drive back and get another one. I’m so grateful for the nice man that helped me! We went on our way, Fado and I drove to this hotsprings where I met up with three of my friends. When we got there there was this man who was being so creepy and making really vulgar comments to me and my friend while I was taking pictures of her. We hiked back and when we got to our cars I told my friends I was gonna stay the night and go back for sunrise so I could get the shots i wanted. Once they left it got dark and I decided I didn’t want to stay there because the weird man mentioned he lived close by. I went to start my car but it wouldn’t start. So I was alone in the woods in the dark, no service, my satélite communicator was dead and my car wouldn’t start. I felt so defeated and upset so I waited without knowing what to do. A man came out of the trail, I was really scared because I was so vulnerable but I asked him for help, another man came and we were able to get my car started and I thanked them profusely! Once my car started I began driving to the city, but I quickly realized my car wouldn’t exceed 25mph. So I had to drive 40 miles going so slow in the dark on a highway, it was terrifying. I drove straight to autozone and slept in the parking lot that night. Not my best moment 🫠🫠🫠 Living on the road will constantly teach you to adapt and be strong in situations like these! haven’t shared my story in a while 💛 I think this gives a little background on why my new truck camper is not just a new truck camper, it has so much meaning to me. Showing you guys TOMORROW I PROMISE (or the next day at the latest)💛 thanks for being here 🥹 Also, already expecting these comments so let me go ahead and address some things… In high school all I cared about was travel and new experiences, I got my first job at 14, second job at 15 and worked so hard to save money to travel, all while attending community college full time! Before finishing high school I solo traveled Ireland and Portugal, and also visited a bunch of other countries with my dear sister annieholleyrealtor . This is how I learned how to budget travel, but also learn how to be alone 🌚 I was married in Brazil for two years. My family is originally from Brazil so it was always my dream to go. Meeting my ex in Spain felt like it was fate. We had a beautiful life there but it didn’t work out. We got married so I could have a visa and we divorced shortly after separating. I have no regrets. My Jeep was my high school car, when I got back to the states I had no friends, nothing waiting for me and was completely directionless. Living in my car seemed like my only option, I fell in love with living on the road. Life in the Jeep to me was great until it started getting cold, life got depressing. Thankfully this was around the time I started working remotely and was able to buy my truck. We roughed it out in the backseat until I bought my first camper (destroyed in Mexico), then my second camper (didn’t fit my truck). PHNOM PENH DAY 2 AND TRAVELLING TO INDONESIA We had the best smoothies, I had passion fruit which was a good choice! Then we didn’t know what to do so went to a shopping maul and went in a Photo Booth which Chloe dragged me into but was my fave 5 mins of being a child and she got a print out for her scrapbook!📸🛍️ We were then starving so went to pizza 4ps which made me so unwell, it was the 13th of the month so think I was unlucky! Maybe I won’t be able to have a cheese fondue ever again😔and walked through the city watching the water gun fights where I managed to dodge the face but they got my legs!!🔫💦After feeling sorry for myself in bed was starving again so got a English breakfast and banana cake from the hostel which made me@feel abit better and reminded me of home🥰🫖☕️ The next morning, chilled by the pool, only had half a smoothie bowl all day then went for some very expensive chicken pineapple fried rice! Got on early night and woke up early for my two flights the next morning, one to Kuala Lumpur then self transferred in under 2 hours which I was impressed with myself, would of done is sooner if I wasn’t faffing with the self check in bag! During the monsoon of 2018, one of my then favorite indie artists was doing a cool concert format called the House Gig Tour across the country. The concept was simple: he would perform intimate concerts at the houses of a few select fans. And a lucky few can get passes to these, and watch him perform live. Of course, it sounded cool and I wanted to go, but couldn’t get any passes. I ignored my disappointment and went about my trip to Goa. 🌴 On the last day, I found myself enjoying a quite breakfast at the idyllic café, overlooking the lush palm trees. I was reveling in the fact that, how despite the weather and scanty shacks, we were able to cover a lot of the beaches on this trip; and went about listing the order of my favorites. My friend listened intently for a while, before going back to their book. I relished my final Goan breakfast of poi vada and chai, as I daydreamed about revisiting this place in future memories. 🌱🌸 My thoughts were interrupted, when I heard my friend call out the name @prateekkuhad . I snapped back to reality and found myself seated in the same café, but this time with an energy of someone approaching. I turned towards the entrance, and immediately recognized the silhouette and signature printed shirt. I gasped in disbelief, and probably failed terribly at any attempts to contain this newfound enthusiasm. 🥲 Turns out he was visiting his friend, Laila, who happens to be the owner of the café and studio above where we were staying. I meaaaan, what are even the chances??! I walked up to him, and introduced myself – we small talked briefly, but awkwardly, and I left soon after. As I was walking out of the café, I realized I wanted something to remember this moment by, but was too timid to ask for a photograph. De magische avonden wanneer de lampionnen aan gaan is al reden genoeg om deze sfeervolle stad te bezoeken🥰 Ik had de ultieme Hoi An beleving! Elke maand tijdens volle maan is namelijk het Lantern Festival. Na zonsondergang zagen we alle straatverlichting uit gaan en de stad werd verlicht door duizenden betoverende lampionnen🤩 we stapten in een bootje en bewonderden alle lichtjes vanaf het water. Even after working a 12hr shift, I can make the time to work on my online business.... because it's really that easy!! There is one thing I do every single morning without fail, which is to make my bed. It doesn't matter where I am around the world, or whether im in a hostel, a hotel, a friend's house, or even at work - I will make my bed as soon as I get up. Why? Because although it may be a small task, it is still a task I can immediately tick off and feel that sense of achievement. It gives me those warm & fuzzies that no matter what happens throughout the day - I have already achieved SOMETHING. ✨️ That, plus the fact it was drilled into me every single day for 9 years by the Navy 😂 But in all honesty, the best part is coming home at the end of a long day and seeing that nicely made bed. I walk in the room, I crack a little smile, maybe get a little giddy and exciteable that it's time to get ready for bed!! 😍 It's the small things in life, really 🥰 Does anyone else do this? Yesterday’s post reminded me of another memorable incident that happened in a cafe in the hills. This one is a bit special to me, so I hope you enjoy it too. 🌸 After my time in Rishikesh, I found my way to Bir, a small village in Himachal Pradesh after what was a tediously long journey. It took me almost 18 hours to reach; and upon arrival, I knew I did not want to leave Bir, and somehow, overstayed my visit by a week. 🐣 On my supposed last day in Bir (I’ll tell you why supposed some other time), @sabchill and I found ourselves at the only cafe that was left unvisited on our checklist. We decided to grab a quick bite, and then head down to the landing site to catch our last sunset in Bir. 🌅 On first impression, @caferoamwild was a cute cozy cafe with boho decor, aesthetic paintings and interesting seating arrangements. Its muted beige and white theme retain an elegant charm, inviting you to feel right at home. 🤍 Looking at @murkh_mati_ki_sant aka Anjali, the cafe manager mixing up colours to paint the cafe fence washed us with a desire to paint as well. We enquired if they did any Art & Dine events at the cafe. She clarified that they have done such events in the past but nothing was planned at the moment, and went on to enquire about our respective painting styles and preferences. 🎨 She then, goes inside and comes back with watercolour paints and brushes and sets us up by the window and upps the cafe music! We feel delighted and laugh at this sudden change of plans on our agenda, but do not complain. 🌝 We settle in and immerse ourselves in the world of paints and paper. I painted a new memory of an ‘open’ cafe with picket fence and a flower box, while Sam painted the paragliders flying over Bir village. We presented both to Anjali as a token of our appreciation. She loved it so much she put them up on the display shelf at the cafe. 🥲 Sometimes, my mind just boggles at the power of art and appreciation, and how it allows so much space for vulnerability and acceptance, even for us mere mortals. ✨ If you like my pictures and storytelling, please do comment and share 🌻
